Sunglasses of Urza

Artifact

You may spend white mana as though it were red mana.

But to be sure to see the destruction caused by Urza's Ruinous Blast, some Sunglasses of Urza are sorely needed.

Bwhaha, nice! What about...

Restoration Specialist to work in the back room, maybe with Scrap Welder who makes great use of Sunglasses of Urza

_The welder gets a lot of work and does well for himself, but Restoration Specialist always seems to find herself saving money, never quite being able to afford a new Sky Skiff. She used to have one, and it wasn't the skiffyest bit around town, but it was just right for what she needed. This was, of course, before last year's accidental overloaded Vandalblast, which, despite the big news coverage at the time, has still left many neighborhoods in mostly disarray.

So, these days she has to ride the Untethered Express to and from work, and every time she does, she ties to remember that the next treasure she restores may just be the one that gets her back to the sky. And more than that, it may be the one that gets her back to the days when she wasn't left spending her time waiting on a train and waiting on the world.

But, like in all things, today is today, and there is nothing else for an often underappreciated Restoration Specialist to do other than take a seat and hope, just hope, that she doesn't have to listen to Chulane, Teller of Tales one more time. He always seems to be on the same Untethered Express as her, and she can't ever seem to wrap her head around why that is. So, she ponders that tid one more time, he starts into the same story that he's told her a hundred times before, and her seat shakes like Norin the Wary at a blind date as they begin into town. Someday the city, her city, someday they will finally replace that bugger of a tether, but, for now she just holds as tight as she can. Today is today afterall.

_ Okay...sorry, I've gone way, way too far : ) I really like the deck! That's what I meant to say.

The main comment I have is that the deck seems a tad creature heavy. I understand the point is to sneak out creatures and have them do their thing, but protecting Kaalia is important for that to work. I would suggest swapping out some creatures for protection Mother of Runes , Nahiri's Machinations , Shielded by Faith , and Flawless Maneuver all give either a single creature (like Kaalia) or all creatures some protection. Also, a board wipe like Austere Command can give you a choice to destroy creatures with power 3 or less, which might be something that can wipe other boards and maybe keep yours a bit more intact for an advantage. Other cards to consider that are just plain good in this deck:

Gamble and Sneak Attack additionally let you find cards you need and then sneak them onto the battlefield without needing Kaalia!

Zirilan of the Claw may be worth considering before it becomes totally priced out of the water (RL cards are spiking like crazy right now)

And in my Kaalia deck I run three mana altering cards Conversion , Blood Moon , and Sunglasses of Urza in hopes that I can alter everyone's mana to benefit me. Of course you have to know the order of how these cards resolve, like if you have Conversion and Blood Moon in play, all non-basic lands are still mountains and Conversion is essentially dead. Also, playing Conversion then Sunglasses allows me to change all mountains to plains AND then still be able to use that white mana as red (and its only in my pool, still messing up mountains for my opponents). Also, one last card while on the topic of mana, Mana Flare is also super powerful in this deck because of the obvious need for lots of mana in the event you can't cheat out your big beaters. It gives your opponents mana too, but hopefully it would benefit you the most.

Yes a deck where Sunglasses of Urza might work.

When I build a deck from the ground up I like to start with my mana base and mana rocks, that way you can see just how many of the fun cards you can put in.

Around 36 to 38 lands with some budget mana fixing/duals Evolving Wilds Terramorphic Expanse Boros Guildgate you could even use Naya Panorama. Then a budget utility land is Scavenger Grounds to fight graveyard strategies.

Then I would do my rocks I like 8 to 10 depending on the deck Sol Ring Boros Cluestone Boros Keyrune Manalith Traveler's Amulet are all pretty budget.

I think if you get the boring but important stuff out of the way first the building will be really smooth.

Lastly boros isn't great for card draw so consider Staff of Nin

Well, for me, a card can be good in one deck, and bad in another deck. Say, for example, there are universally good cards like Sol Ring and Mana Vault because they are mana rocks, or Prismatic Lens because it can fix mana issues, but in some decks, Sunglasses of Urza can be even better, turning your plains into Plateaus. Cards like Fatal Push are going to be good in just about any deck that run black, but especially anything that runs fetches or uses self-sacrifices. Some may take Ruinous Path over Hero's Downfall or Dreadbore if their deck utilizes the Awakening mechanic. Honestly I think it depends on the deck.
