Kitesail

Artifact — Equipment

Equipped creature gets +1/+0 and has flying.

Equip (: Attach this to target creature you control. Equip only as a sorcery. This enters the battlefield unattached and stays on the battlefield if the creature this card is attached to leaves the battlefield.)

Whispersilk Cloak could replace Kitesail? Don't get the damage boost but unblockable and shroud are very tough to deal with. :)

It's because there's no "e" in Day of Judgment. I had to look it up when I typed it previously. Sigarda's Aid functions as redundancy. What happens if Hammer of Nazahn gets exiled? Plus, Sigarda's Aid gives your equipment flash.

In the current deck, 20 cards benefit from Pearl Medallion.

The weakest cards currently, in my opinion, are Kitesail and Stalking Leonin. For Kitesail, you have two alternatives in your sideboard-one has a cheaper equip cost and one gives first strike in place of the buff. The evasion or cheapness both seem better to me. Stalking Leonin I guess has pretty good stats but the ability is super situational and single use.

I think the current commander is fine as long as your deck doesn't depend on him being out, since he's 6 mana. But his ability is definitely cool and the free tutor for the Hammer is nice.

Thanks for all the responses so far. The suggestions are super helpful.

@WhichKing, no Purphoros, at least, not right now. I'm going pretty budget with this one, and its not a card I have.

@ZendikariWol, I do like Prowler's Helm, and have added it to my maybeboard along with Strata Scythe, Kitesail, and a few of the others. I'm teetering on Sundial of the Infinite. I like it, but I'm just not sure I want to go that rout...yet. I did have Tooth and Claw initially, but cut it for more equipment. It may go back in yet. Also, thanks for the note on Stalking Vengeance; I missed that entirely, so that's an easy cut. Warstorm Surge is coming to take its place. I'm on the fence about keeping Barrage of Expendables around. Skeleton Key is mainly in for the card draw, not the skulking ability. Good info on Browbeat and Sparring Collar. I'll cut the Collar for sure. I wasn't sure on Browbeat, but man, red needs card draw. But, I'll look into something else. Thanks for taking the time to look through all the equipment in Magic for this! There are a lot of really good budget options in there. When throwing equipment into this deck, I tried to make sure I was getting equipment with more than just a power/toughness bonus, and to get some other ability along the way, i.e., hexproof, trample, double strike, unblockable, etc.

@Heliogabale, I do like Basilisk Collar, and I may add it down the road. Deathouch is nice. I'm not running the spell cheapeners, mainly so I can run more equipment, and most of that isn't terribly high CMC anyways. Sure, it'd be nice to get it for free, and I'd do that in a build with someone like Sram, Senior Edificer, but for Valduk, I'm not as worried about it.

Thanks again, everyone. This was super helpful.

Vicious Shadows actually doesn't work (nor does Stalking Vengeance, and for the same reason), because when a creature (or in this instance a token) doesn't die when it's exiled. I would suggest Warstorm Surge instead. Which I just noticed was in the maybeboard. Speaking of cards in the maybeboard, Swiftfoot Boots is probably better than Lightning Greaves here because shroud makes Valduk untargetable for equip costs. This would normally not be a problem; just equip it to a different creature for 0 mana. However with a semi-creatureless brew like this you'd have to do all your equipping on the postcombat main phase.

I might suggest some of the human-based equipment from OG Innistrad; Avacyn's Collar, Bladed Bracers, Butcher's Cleaver, Heirloom Blade could be really cool (and you could run a human or two for good measure), Sharpened Pitchfork is nice, though first strike is kinda useless, Silver-Inlaid Dagger is AWESOME, and Slayer's Plate may get some work done.

Some generally good equipments include Champion's Helm for hexproof, Chitinous Cloak to force opponents to make tough blocker choices, honestly General's Kabuto may be worth is as the ultimate protection card, you could consider Kitesail for evasion, Konda's Banner would be great and pump your tokens (and yes it would give Valduk +2/+2), Kusari-Gama would be a serious 'don't block me or I fuck you' effect, Ogre's Cleaver is honestly insane, Pariah's Shield, though costly, more or less makes you untouchable, Pennon Blade is worth the cost, the classic Short Sword, Sigiled Sword of Valeron is dece, Skullclamp is OH MY GOD, Strata Scythe is equally insane, the swords are famously insanely powerful, Trusty Machete is okay, Vorrac Battlehorns is an easy way to win fast, and Vulshok Battlegear and Vulshok Morningstar are decent.

And yes, I did slog through every equipment in Magic history to find those.

Props to Heliogabale for some good ideas on cuts. I might add No-Dachi, seems a little overcosted (also it's worth noting Mask of Avacyn has the same mana specs for an arguably better effect), Skeleton Key is not going to do anything for very long, Valduk is probably going to be too big too fast to make use of first strike (@ Sparring Collar), Browbeat is 5 damage to an opponent for 3 mana. Realistically no one is going to let you draw 3 cards.

Sorry, this comment was a looong one.

Anything that gives double strike Fireshrieker Blood Mist and the like.

Brass Squire and Masterwork of Ingenuity , Kitesail anything that gives flying. Golem-Skin Gauntlets , Trepanation Blade is all that I can think of off the top of my head.

Needs more Rat Colony

With only 6 Relentless Rats you need half of your total number on the battlefield to even make them 4/4s. Most of the time they will be 3 mana 2/2s. You need a critical mass of Relentless Rats--at least 20. If you want to dedicate only a small portion of your deck to the Relentless effect, then Rat Colony is much better; unlike Relentless Rats it benefits from any rat you control, including Marrow-Gnawer's tokens. Pack Rat is also superior if you have many non-Relentless Rats.

Rat Colony is strictly better than Swarm of Rats. It's also generally better than Bog Rats, Carrion Rats, Muck Rats, Nezumi Cutthroat (fear isn't worth a large power loss and "can't block", especially when Marrow-Gnawer provides fear), Pestilence Rats (Rat Colony gets +2/-2 under most conditions and costs 1 less), and Earsplitting Rats (not enough graveyard/discard synergies).

Other suggestions

Tormod's Crypt -> Nihil Spellbomb, Bojuka Bog. You can run Crypt in addition if needed, but I would use these first.

Kitesail -> Bladed Pinions, Fleetfeather Sandals.

Geth's Grimoire -> remove. Only four or so cards in this deck actually cause an opponent to discard. Since you're running Ancient Craving, might as well slot in Ambition's Cost as well.

Nightmare Lash -> Lashwrithe. Or just run both, but Lashwrithe first.

Sword of the Paruns -> Bad Moon, Adaptive Automaton, Hall of Triumph, Vanquisher's Banner, and Obelisk of Urd are all more mana efficient and consistent ways to pump your rats.

Altar's Reap -> Costly Plunder, Night's Whisper, Sign in Blood.

I'm not sure how Shriveling Rot serves the deck.

There are two Cabal Strongholds, so one needs to come out. Cycling lands--Barren Moor, Polluted Mire, and Desert of the Glorified--hedge against land-heavy draws. Some cheap utility/value lands like Zhalfirin Void, Encroaching Wastes, Mystifying Maze, or Temple of the False God might be good over some number of Swamps too.

Phyrexian Tribute -> Scour from Existence, Unstable Obelisk. I know black is bad with artifacts, but there is a reason Phyrexian Tribute is in 55 edh decks, and the other two are in over 5000 each, and it isn't just color restriction. They cover all five permanent types instead of just one, including the equally hard-for-black enchantments. Requiring two creatures to sacrifice, Phyrexian Tribute isn't even always easier to cast, and it's effect is far less flexible.

Speaking of Unstable Obelisk, more mana ramp would be prudent, like Wayfarer's Bauble, Mind Stone, and Commander's Sphere. Bontu's Monument isn't Jet Medallion, but is still worthwhile with 27 creatures.

I don't think there are enough graveyard synergies to make Living Death appropriate.

Night Dealings is slow, does nothing if the battlefield isn't somewhat favorable, can potentially get removed, makes you reveal, and can't get lands. Razaketh's Rite and Mastermind's Acquisition tutor with no fuss. If you want slow, multi-card tutoring, Diabolic Revelation, Demonic Collusion, and Increasing Ambition are reliable options. Although none feature Nezumi in their art.

Curse of Death's Hold is a bit narrow for multiplayer; I'd prefer Ascendant Evincar which will hit more enemy creatures overall while buffing your own and being a 3/3 flier.
