Honed Khopesh Discussion

I just want to let you know that I used your deck tonight, at a standard showdown. I went 3-0 and it was priceless to see the faces of my opponent going... WTH! Mono-blue aggro...
For dominaria, i was planning on changing Honed Khopesh for Arcane Flight. You save to cast/ equip. Plus you can give flying to your Daring Saboteur and possibly avoid paying 2 and/ or enchant your Slippery Scoundrel useful before having the city blessing. I'll definitely have to test it, to see if that really matter in example losing and enchantment vs an equipment staying on the board when your creature die.

Thanks bushido_man96, name is a fun play on words! I have been looking to optimize the deck, but running 30 lands makes this tough.
Cards that I dont mind getting rid of include: Crook of Condemnation, Fireshrieker, Grafted Exoskeleton, Honed Khopesh, Neglected Heirloom Flip, Sharpened Pitchfork, Burnished Hart, Golden Guardian Flip, and Pia's Revolution.
Should I focus more on storm? 0 drop artifacts? Rocks and Mana generation? Artifact bounce? Creature based reanimation?

Love the idea of the deck!
However I think that the deck could be better if more equipments were used instead of auras, as they don't disappear when the creature dies which would make the deck more resilient. I would definitely play Danitha Capashen, Paragon which would make some auras cheaper and some 1 CMC Equipmets such as card:Short Sword to be free. That's free draw combined with Sram, Senior Edificer. Honed Khopesh would work as well.
And playing one Blackblade Reforged could be fun :D
Hope the feedback helps :)

Torgaar, Famine Incarnate is my next EDH deck. Maybe Brawl, but I don't pay enough attention to Standard. Definitely EDH.
After skimming the whole spoiler list, there really is a sense of the history of Dominaria throughout, both in mechanics (Howling Golem, Unwind) and flavor (Serra Angel, every single Saga). I wish there had been more about Sarpadia specifically, with one Homarid and a Thrull being the representatives, but maybe the Thallids and Saprolings count. I just want to know more about the pre-Fallen Empires cultures.
Overall, I really like it. Good work, WotC.

Update: really enjoying how this deck plays, I've made some changes and will see how the mana base works after this update. Among them, out went Moltensteel Dragon and in went Temur Battle Rage, as well as:
- 2 x Darksteel Axe -> 2 x Bonesplitter
- 4 x Revoke Existence -> 4 x Disenchant
- 2 x Cartouche of Zeal, Honed Khopesh -> Ghostfire Blade, Cranial Plating, Shuko
- In went 2 x Boros Signet

Honed Khopesh is alright, but I think Prying Blade is the way to go. It gets you more treasures to get to ascend faster for Slippery Scoundrel. Sometimes that card is just a three mana 2/2 until turn 7-8, so you need to hit ascend more consistently. It could go either way though. Also I'd try out at least 1-2 copies of Ipnu Rivulet against Approach, because if you can mill their approaches you just win because it is their only win condition. Looks really cool for its price and hope its working well for you.

The conclusion I've come to about Prying Blade is that it's win-more. If you're doing well and can go shields-down to equip it, then it'll help you snowball the game with a quicker City's Blessing, which is nice but you were in a good position to win anyway. If you're doing poorly, you often can't even equip it until it's too late to help. Honed Khopesh is never quite as strong as Prying Blade can be, but it's never as weak, either. It can even help you block reasonably well in a pinch. All in all, Khopesh's flatter power curve makes it more consistent, and consistency is key.
Warkite Marauder is such a spicy card but I don't see it doing much for us. We don't need it to shrink down blockers and since we don't have hard removal, we can't usually take advantage of its ability all that well either. Marauder would be an all-star in some UB or UR Flying Pirates deck but I'm just not seeing much use for it here. Rest assured, though, I hella want to make that Pirates deck. I'm just waiting for the prices to drop low enough.
I agree with you about heavy hitters being a problem. You basically have to rely on a combination of bounce and counterspells -- extremely precarious. Waterknot is very tempting, but 3 mana is just so much for this deck. I'd really like to be able to make Unquenchable Thirst work but we're severely pinched on Deserts that would work for us. We really need all our lands to produce Blue mana and to come into play untapped, so that sticks up with just Ipnu Rivulet, which I guess might be nice tech against Approach decks but is otherwise just a very painful Island.
I don't know. For now, I'm hoping Admiral's Order might be enough to deal with bigger dudes, or maybe Sea Legs or Aether Meltdown can slow them down enough for us to outrace them. Or better yet, maybe we'll get something neat from Dominaria.
