Armor of Thorns

Enchantment — Aura

You may cast Armor of Thorns as though it had flash. If you cast it any time a sorcery couldn't have been cast, the controller of the permanent it becomes sacrifices it at the beginning of the next cleanup step.

Enchant nonblack creature

Enchanted creature gets +2/+2.

The End Phase has two steps: end step and cleanup step. The end step is when "at the beginning of the end step" things happen. The cleanup step is where the game takes care of several other things before the next turn begins: "this turn" and "until end of turn" effects end, damage is removed from creatures, players discard excess cards in hand, and a few other things. If any abilities trigger during a cleanup step, the game will start another one after it's over to make sure everything is taken care of before moving on to the next turn.

When Necromancy and some other similar cards were printed, the rules worked a little differently. The big update to the rules for 6th Edition caused the printed text to have some issues, the biggest one being that the auras giving +X/+Y (Soar, Armor of Thorns, a couple others) would fall off before damage was removed, meaning a creature might die when a player wouldn't expect it. All of these enchantments with the instant-casting option were changed to fall off at the beginning of the cleanup step instead so the auras would continue to work in the expected and intended way.

As an enchantment deck, I think Might of Oaks and Giant Growth can be replaced with an enchantment that is equal, if not superior, like Armor of Thorns or Hydra's Growth. I think your Natural Connection has better alternatives, there's far better spell based ramp, and you should use an enchantment, like Sheltered Aerie.

Cool deck though! Definitely like Sight of the Scalelords and Oath of the Ancient Wood. Have you considered Nylea's Colossus? You have far more ramp than my deck does, so it could be an absolute all-star in here.

I agree with thatkuhlkid, Armor of Thorns is a bit underwhelming even with your commanders ability:)

I ummm misread the crap out of the vintage masters version. Look it up lol the wording is lengthy and confusing. Anyways, I found an older printing and it actually made sense and I realized I'm retarded. New Armor of Thorns vs. Old Armor of Thorns

Last_Laugh - Those are good suggestions, thank you, but I am not sure Armor of Thorns works as removal. It sounds like you bury the enchantment, not the creature at end of turn. Maybe there is old wording in there that I am missing, but at first glance from me, it sounds like it buries the aura.

Ash Barrens is brilliant, you are right. I will soon make adjustments to take in all of the great suggestions from you guys.

Last_Laugh

Armor of Thorns doesn't make you sacrifice the creature it is enchanting but itself. So it will only buff a creature, and if it is cast as an instant, buff it until end of turn, where the armor will be sacrificed.

Vampira

Thank you for the kind words, and for the tokens. I'm glad my deck was of assistance in your own deckbuilding process, that is what it is here for. I'm perfectly fine with you having your own deck and appreciate that you linked my deck in the description, it is very nice of you.

Last_Laugh I feel similar about Armor of Thorns as i do about Elephant Grass, I generally find that if someone is attaching me its with something really nasty, but most of the time if I lose, it will be to some form of combo rather than combat damage and I find Spore Frog covers me very well with combat damage. Something i do feel that this deck is missing however is creature spot removal in the form of a permanent rather than an instant or sorcery, I've got Attrition and have tried Executioner's Capsule but I really want to hit black creatures too. Any suggestions??
