Grenzo, Dungeon Warden

The Rule of Three:

This takes on two meanings. One is the deckbuilding principle that your deck should have three avenues of winning the game. For this deck, there are three fairly clear avenues.

  2. We can always turn our goblins/other creatures sideways.

As well, the rule of three applies to the creatures that we play themselves. This deck runs a very minimal amount of noncreature spells. Because of the creature-heavy nature of this deck, we want to be able to play them as often as possible with Grenzo's ability. This means that having creatures with <=3CMC allows Grenzo to always be cast with only X=1. In turn, this allows us to start using Grenzo's ability sooner.

Combos:

All combos are taken from EDHREC.

Result: Infinite damage. Infinite red mana. Infinite creature tokens.

Requires: All permanents on the battlefield. Thornbite Staff is attached to Krenko. Krenko does not have summoning sickness.

Steps: Activate Krenko by tapping it, creating a number of Goblin tokens equal to the number of Goblins you control. Activate Sac Outlet by sacrificing a Goblin you control. Thornbite Staff triggers, untapping Krenko. Let Aristocrat trigger resolve. Repeat.

Prerequisites All permanents on the battlefield Thornbite Staff equipped to Krenko Krenko does not have summoning sickness

Steps Activate Krenko by tapping it, creating a 1/1 Goblin creature token for each Goblin you control Activate Sling-Gang Lieutenant by sacrificing a Goblin Krenko triggers, untapping itself Resolve the Sling-Gang Lieutenant ability, causing target player to lose one life and you to gain one life Repeat

Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Thornbite Staff + Any Creature + Any Sac Source Tap Kiki-Jiki targeting the creature. Use the copy of the creature (ETB, tap effect, etc). Sac the copy of the creature. Thornbite Staff will untap Kiki-Jiki. Repeat effect as necessary.

Examples of good creatures to target:

Gray Merchant of Asphodel = infinite drain Any mana dork = infinite mana Goblin Sharpshooter = infinite damage

Result: Infinite life loss. Infinite ETB. Infinite death triggers. Infinite LTB. Infinite lifegain.

Requires: All named permanents on the battlefield. Any other two creatures (at least one nontoken) on the battlefield, and any creature card in the graveyard.

Steps: Activate Whisper, Blood Liturgist; sacrifice the two other creatures and targeting any creature in the graveyard for reanimation. When the creatures are sacrificed, Thornbite Staff and Pawn of Ulamog trigger. Resolve Thornbite Staff's trigger, untapping Whisper. Resolve Pawn of Ulamog's trigger, creating at least one Eldrazi Spawn token. Resolve Whisper's activated ability, reanimating the creature. Repeatedly activate Whisper, sacrificing the newly reanimated creature and newly generated Eldrazi Spawn token to reanimate a different creature and creating another Eldrazi Spawn each time. Whenever Whisper is activated, Zulaport Cutthroat triggers twice, draining opponents for 2.

Result: Infinite ETB triggers. Infinite LTB triggers. Infinite death triggers. Infinite sacrifice triggers. Infinite life drain.

Requires: All permanents on battlefield. Thornbite staff attached to Whisper, Blood Liturgist. Whisper, Blood Liturgist does not have summoning sickness. Two other creatures on the battlefield.

Steps: Sacrifice Sling-Gang Liutenant to its own ability, draining an opponent for one, triggering Thornbite Staff, and untapping Whisper. Tap Whisper, sacrificing two creatures and returning Sling-Gang Lutenant to the battlefield, Creating two 1/1 red goblin creature tokens with Sling-Gang Liutenant's ETB ability. Repeat.

Result: Infinite ETB. Infinite LTB. Infinite Death triggers. Infinite sacrifice triggers.

Requires: All permanents on the battlefield. Staff equipped to Caretaker. One other creature on the battlefield on your side of the battlefield. One other creature in your graveyard.

Steps: During you upkeep,sacrificea creature to Caretaker's ability, bringing back a creature from your graveyard. Staff triggers, untapping Caretaker. Repeat until you've reached your desired effect, which solely depends on the effects of the sacrificed creatures, or other cards on the battlefield that trigger during an ETB, LTB,Sacrificetrigger, or death trigger effect.

Requires: All named permanents on the battlefield. Any other two creatures (at least one nontoken) on the battlefield, and any creature card in the graveyard.

Steps: Activate Whisper, Blood Liturgist; sacrifice the two nontoken creatures and targeting any creature in the graveyard for reanimation. Thornbite Staff triggers when the creatures are sacrificed, untapping Whisper. Resolve Whisper's activated ability, reanimating the creature. Desecrated Tomb triggers when the reanimated creature leaves the graveyard, creating a Bat token. Repeatedly activate Whisper, sacrificing the newly reanimated creature and newly generated Bat to reanimate a different creature. Whenever Whisper is activated, Zulaport Cutthroat triggers twice, draining opponents for 2.

Requires: All permanents on the battlefield.

Steps: 1. Sacrifice Murderous Rider using Ashnod's Altar, generating . 2. Murderous Rider's ability triggers, putting it on the bottom of the library. 3. Activate Grenzo, Dungeon Warden's ability, using the from Ashnod's Altar, returning Murderous Rider to the battlefield. 4. Resolve any aristocrat triggers as Murderous Rider is sacrificed and repeat.

Tap Kiki-Jiki targeting Zealous Conscripts. When the copy comes into play, target Kiki-Jiki with its untap affect. Repeat 1000+ times Swing in for the kill.

Summon Marionette Master with three Servo tokens. Sac all three tokens to Ashnod's (make an opponent lose three life). Sac Marionette Master. Use Epitaph Golem / Soldevi Digger / Reito Lantern to place Marionette Master back on the bottom of your library. Use Grenzo's ability to flip Marionette Master.

Repeat for infinite life loss.

Combos Not Included:

Tap Kiki-Jiki targeting the Lightning Crafter. When the copy comes into play, it will require you to champion a goblin; champion Kiki-Jiki. Tap the Lightning Crafter copy to deal 3 damage to target player. Sac the Lightning Crafter copy. Kiki-Jiki comes back into play untapped. Repeat for infinite damage.

Requires: All permanents on the battlefield. Mimic naming "Goblin".

Steps: Sacrifice the Redcap to scry 1. Persist triggers, returning the Redcap on the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter. Due to Mimic's effect, the redcap also returns with a +1/+1 counter on it. State-based actions cancel the two counters. Redcap deals damage. Repeat.

Result: Infinite creature tokens with haste. Infinite ETB.

Requires: Both cards in hand. 2rrr available. You control a creature.

Steps: Cast Twinflame targeting a creature you control. With Twinflame on the stack, cast Dualcaster Mage targeting Twinflame. Allow Dualcaster Mage's ability to resolve, copying Twinflame and creating a copy of Dualcaster Mage. The new token copy of Dualcaster Mage triggers targeting the original copy of Twinflame, and resolves to create another token copy of Dualcaster Mage. Repeat steps 2-4 to make infinite hasty token copies of Dualcaster Mage. Win Through Impact Tremors Triggers for damage.

Tap Goblin Welder and sacrifice one of your artifact creatures to grab another one from the graveyard. Thornbite Staff will untap Goblin Welder. Repeat for infinite abilities/triggers.

Steps: Cast Squee, the Immortal for rr. Birgi triggers, adding r. Hazoret's Monument triggers, allowing you to discard a card to draw a card. Impact Tremors triggers, dealing one damage to each opponent. Sacrifice Squee to Skirk Prospector adding r Repeat.

Result: Infinite LTB. Infinite ETB. Infinite Death triggers. Infinite damage.

Requires: All permanents on the battlefield.

Steps: Sacrifice Fiend to Ashnod's Altar, generating 2. Deal damage. With the Cauldron's replacement effect, put the Fiend on the bottom of your library, instead of your graveyard. Activate Grenzo's ability, paying 2, to bring back the same creature to the battlefield. Repeat.

Result: Infinite c. Infinite ETB. Infinite LTB. Infinite death triggers. Infinite sacrifice triggers. Infinite damage.

Requires: All permanents on the battlefield.

Steps: Sacrifice a persist creature without a -1/-1 counter to Altar for a mana of any color and it comes back with a -1/-1 counter. Equip Blade to the persist creature with a -1/-1 counter. Sacrifice the persist creature without a -1/-1 counter to Altar for a mana of any color, triggering both Blade which removes the counter from the equipped creature and the persist ability from the sacrificed creature. Repeat steps 1-3. Each time you repeat the steps, the creature that was sacrificed triggers once.

Result: Infinite LTB. Infinite ETB. Infinite Death triggers. Infinite damage.

Requires: All permanents on the battlefield.

Steps: Sacrifice Redcap to Ashnod's Altar, generating 2. With the Cauldron's replacement effect, put the Redcap on the bottom of your library, instead of your graveyard. Activate Grenzo's ability, paying 2, to bring back the same creature to the battlefield. Deal damage. Repeat.

Result: Infinite creature tokens with haste. Infinite ETB. Infinite LTB. Infinite sacrifice triggers. Infinite death triggers. Put all creatures in your library onto the battlefield with haste.

Requires: All permanents on the battlefield. Grenzo is your commander. Grenzo has at least 3 power. b available.

Steps: Tap Krenko, creating 1/1 red goblin tokens equal to the number of goblins you control. Sacrifice one token and Krenko to Skirk Prospector, adding rr. The Cauldron of Eternity triggers and puts Krenko on the bottom of your library. Pay 2 to Grenzo, putting Krenko onto the battlefield from the bottom of your library. Repeat. Sacrifice Sacrifice the tokens to generate infinite r. Sacrifice Grenzo to Skirk Prospector for r. Cast Grenzo naming an arbitrarly large number for x. BONUS: With Goblin Warchief in play or Anger in the graveyard, the goblins will have haste.

Result: Infinite ETB. Infinite LTB. Infinite death triggers. Infinite sacrifice triggers. Infinite scry. Infinite damage.

Requires: All permanents on the battlefield. First Day of Class in hand. 1r available.

Steps: Cast First Day of School, causing it so that each creature that enters the battlefield under your control this turn gets a +1/+1 counter put on it and gains haste until end of turn. Activate Viscera Seer, sacrificing Murderous Redcap to scry one. Murderous Redcap's persist triggers, returning it to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter. First Day of School triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Murderous Redcap. Murderous Redcap triggers, dealing two damage to any target. Repeat from step 2. Bonus: Any Persist creature (such as Putrid Goblin) with an Aristocrat in play will also deal infinite damage.

Result: Infinite ETB. Infinite LTB. Infinite storm count.

Requires: Birgi on the battlefield. Grinning Ignus in hand. 2r available.

Steps: Cast Grinning Ignus. Birgi triggers, adding r. Activate Grinning Ignus, returning it to your hand to add ccr. Repeat.

Steps: Tap Kiki-Jiki to make a token copy of Mogg Fanatic. Sacrifice Mogg Fanatic to its own ability to deal 1 damage to any target. Thornbite Staff untaps Kiki-Jiki. Repeat.

Result: Infinite ETB. Infinite death triggers. Infinite LTB. Infinite colorless mana. Infinite life loss. Infinite lifegain.

Steps: Sacrifice Reassembling Skeleton to Ashnod's Altar, generating 2. Pitiless Plunderer and Blood Artist trigger. Pitiless Plunderer generates a Treasure token; crack it to float b. Blood Artist drains target opponent for 1. Activate Reassembling Skeleton for 1b, returning it to the battlefield from the graveyard. Repeat the sacrifice-recursion loop, floating 1 with each iteration and draining opponents infinitely with Blood Artist triggers.
