Urza's Legacy
Hey, some interesting card choices for upgrades to the precon. I can tell your deck is based on the precon because I see Darksteel Juggernaut.
A kink here to work on is the avg. CMC. The mana curve is very high at 4.3 not including Organic Extinction and Mycosynth Golem. The precon mana curve is already high at 3.5 not including Thought Monitor. A higher mana curve would be fine if supported with lots more low mana cost ramp, but you cut most of the low mana cost ramp (Signets, Liquimetal, Vessel) from the precon. There's only 6 ramp sources here 3 CMC or less which is low.
You could have a difficult time casting Urza using artifact creature affinity with only 7 artifact creatures 3 CMC or less. You really can't count on Urza's artifact affinity to first cast him and having not many ramp sources, ramp can't be counted on either. Master Transmuter is a great upgrade, she helps a lot when playing a lower amount of ramp. To improve the mana curve which will help gameplay consider choosing a few of the better high mana cost cards and cutting the others? Most 4 drops here are much better than the 5-7+ drops and that's good for the mana curve.
Research Thief, The Mightstone and Weakstone Meld, Blightsteel Colossus, Mycosynth Golem, Thopter Assembly, Tezzeret, Master of the Bridge, Organic Extinction, Darksteel Forge, Mycosynth Lattice, Kuldotha Forgemaster, Cyberdrive Awakener these are the better 5-7 CMC cards here. The others could be cut to lower the mana curve because they're simply not as good as these.
- Thief, it's repeatable draw effect is good when you want to be attacking with Constructs.
- Weakstone because you have Urza, Lord Protector Meld.
- Blightsteel, best secondary attacker and because you have Master Transmuter.
- Golem because Urza is a consistent way to create artifacts.
- Assembly because you have Time Sieve.
- Tezzeret because of Constructs.
- Extinction because of Constructs.
- Forge, best protection for all artifacts and because you have Lattice, Transmuter and Padeem.
- Awakener flying for Constructs.
Some upgrades at your price point to consider:
- Esper Sentinel, Mystic Remora
- Diabolic Intent, Fabricate
- Skullclamp (in the precon), Baleful Strix (in the precon)
- Ornithopter of Paradise, Signets and Liquimetal (in the precon)
- The Reality Chip + Sensei's Divining Top combo
- Spellskite, Skrelv, Defector Mite, Ethersworn Canonist
- Skrelv's Hive
- Counterspell, Swords to Plowshares (in the precon)
Good luck with your deck.

Urza, Chief Artificer 2023 Upgraded Precon for LGS
1 month ago
Hey, well done so far on a budget casual upgrading the precon.
If attacking with Constructs is what you want to be doing then here's some budget upgrades to consider:
- Research Thief --> Darksteel Juggernaut
- Bident of Thassa --> Urza's Ruinous Blast
- Vault of the Archangel --> Warped Landscape
When you can draw cards from Constructs doing combat damage to opponents thanks to menace from Urza then you're getting much value from Constructs. Bident of Thassa is in the precon. Vault of the Archangel is tech from a land, menace with deathtouch is a nasty combination because opponents are not going to block Constructs and lose all their creatures. Just having Vault untapped with enough mana to activate it is enough to make your Constructs essentially unblockable. You can also gain a ton of life with Constructs.
Some other budget upgrades to consider:
- Counterspell or Disruption Protocol --> Malakir Rebirth
- Disruption Protocol or Negate--> Sejiri Shelter
- Ornithopter of Paradise --> Burnished Hart
- Padeem, Consul of Innovation --> Bronze Guardian
- Master Transmuter --> Jhoira's Familiar
- Unctus, Grand Metatect --> Chief of the Foundry
- Silas Renn, Seeker Adept --> Scrap Trawler
- Steel Seraph --> Hexavus
Good luck with your deck.

Urza’s legion

Hey, good start on a budget with what you have so far. Command Tower is a budget staple land for multicolored Commander decks and Arcane Signet is a budget staple mana rock.
Ramos, Dragon Engine can only be played in a five color deck using it as Commander or another five color Commander. It's activated ability has all five mana symbols and those symbols count toward it's color identity. Urza's color identity is only three colors Esper (black, white, blue). Because Urza doesn't have red and green that's why Ramos can't be played with Urza as Commander.
If you want aggro with Urza lets look at the beginning of the mana curve first, cards spots of 0-3 CMC only then we can look at the higher end of the mana curve. The first changes to consider is to remove all the nonartifact creatures and then later determine if they are worth a spot in your deck because they have abilities that help artifacts or Urza. I think you'll find that you don't need any of these creatures because artifact creatures can take their places. If you want to be aggro with Urza then you want to utilize Urza's artifact creature affinity to cast Urza quicker. To do this consistently Urza wants 0-2 CMC artifact creatures and some 3 CMC artifact creatures more than the rest.
- Cut: Ramos, Dragon Engine
- Cut: Slither Blade, Triton Shorestalker, Fetid Imp, Neurok Familiar
- Cut: Parish-Blade Trainee, Gixian Skullflayer, Gryff Rider
- Cut: Naiad of Hidden Coves, Whispering Wizard, Cryptic Serpent
Some of these creatures may be added back in later, most likely not, but for now lets build the creature base with only artifact creatures. For making upgrades lets look at best cards here with Urza and build around them? Arcbound Ravager and Portal to Phyrexia are the two best cards here with Urza because they're artifacts and they're abilities are more powerful compared to most other cards here. Ravager brings the aggro, but if aggro doesn't do it and you need more reach to win the game then Portal can do that. Lets start with Ravager and what makes it better with Urza? Modular and you have some here, more one drops can help toward Urza's artifact creature affinity and Ravager.
- Add: Ornithopter, Vault Skirge, Arcbound Javelineer, Arcbound Mouser, Swooping Lookout
- Add: Steel Overseer, Baleful Strix, Triarch Praetorian, Malcator's Watcher
- Add: Silas Renn, Seeker Adept, Armix, Filigree Thrasher, Scrapyard Recombiner
Steel Overseer adds to the +1/+1 counter strategy, it's powerful but only for artifact creatures and if trying to be aggro it's a good reason to play very few nonartifact creatures. Silas Renn, Seeker Adept goes well with Arcbound Ravager since with Ravager you want to sac artifacts and Silas lets you cast an artifact from your graveyard. It's deathtouch combined with Urza's menace makes it a creature who opponent is not going to block and lose two or more creatures blocking it. Baleful Strix, Triarch Praetorian, Malcator's Watcher are two drop artifact creatures who fly and who draw when enter the battlefield (ETB) or dies.
Some artifacts here are worse than others.
- Cut: Veteran's Powerblade, Spellbook
- Cut: Journeyer's Kite, Pristine Talisman
- Cut: Reconstructed Thopter, Burnished Hart
Think about limiting the amount of nonartifact spells to just the better ones you have here?
- Cut: Involuntary Cooldown, Weakstone's Subjugation, Curse of Echoes
- Cut: Disfigure, Curate, Scatter Ray, Cancel
Equipment that increases the equipped creature's power equal to the amount of artifacts you control really ups the aggro since then any little artifact creature can become huge which combined with menace can make it a great attacker. I see Silver Myr and it's good here since counts twice for Urza, artifact creature affinity and ramp. Consider adding more artifact creature mana dorks who can make colored mana?
- Add: Cranial Plating, Nettlecyst
- Add: Ornithopter of Paradise, Gold Myr, Leaden Myr
The budget Signets can help for ramp as well as color fixing which is really needed because the manabase here is pretty much all basic lands. Arcane Signet is a staple budget mana rock for ramp in Commander. Chromatic Lantern is fine for color fixing, but you're going to want more than that.
- Add: Arcane Signet
- Add: Azorius Signet, Dimir Signet, Orzhov Signet
Some nonartifact creatures at the beginning of the mana curve can really help aggro and Urza.
Losheel, Clockwork Scholar is powerful with artifact creatures when attacking is what you want to be doing especially Constructs. Your artifact creatures don't take damage in combat meaning that opponents will have a difficult time choosing to block since their blockers might die, but your creatures will be fine. Losheel is also repeatable draw, once on each players turn when an artifact creature ETB you draw this includes when a Construct is created by Urza if you didn't have an artifact creature ETB before your end step.
Sai, Master Thopterist can be a repeatable source of artifact creatures, Thopters, to be attackers or sac fodder. Emry, Lurker of the Loch is like Silas Renn, Seeker Adept more ways to cast artifacts from your graveyard is good with Arcbound Ravager and other sac outlets.
That's it for this comment, but if you're still interested I'll give advice about the high end of the mana curve here to take more advantage of aggro into mid game and Portal to Phyrexia late game as well as some budget land options for the manabase. Would you like more advice?
Good luck with your deck.

Urza's Engines of Armageddon
Hey, +1 for the deck name! I really like the concept of using Vehicles to crew each other to help to pay for Urza's artifact creature affinity. One creature who can crew a single Vehicle can create a chain that essentially bypasses having to pay for Urza's Commander tax.
You have 10 playable Vehicles here, that's not many if you want a Vehicle strategy. Consider more Vehicles and interactions with Vehicles?
Anchor to Reality is a Vehicle Tinker.
Imposter Mech and Weatherlight are more Vehicles with good effects. Weatherlight can repeatedly look at the top five cards of your library and put any one artifact or legendary card into your hand. The better creatures here who have Vehicle interactions are legendary and Artifact lands are historic. Imposter can become any creature an opponent controls, but it's still an artifact/Vehicle. That's really good with Master Transmuter, who can change what creature Imposer becomes.
Another reason to add more Vehicles is Greasefang, Okiba Boss, Esper, Vehicles and Greasefang go together nicely. Tezzeret, Betrayer of Flesh is an underrated Planeswalker with Vehicles and Greasefang, in fact all of his abilities are good here especially -6 emblem with crew. A Vehicle crew chain can draw a ton of cards if you have his emblem.
Crew is an activated ability thus if it's the first artifact activated ability you use on a player's turn it's 2 less to crew. His +1 is Thirst for Knowledge, draw and discard before combat for Greasefang. -2 effect doesn't end until that Vehicle leaves the battlefield which can really turn any noncreature artifact you control into a 4/4 Vehicle.
Research Thief and Bident of Thassa are consistent repeatable draw effects because of Constructs as well as with Vehicles who will most likely have just as easy time then a Construct at doing combat damage to a player. Losheel, Clockwork Scholar is nice with Constructs for combat damage + repeatable draw.
- Ornithopter of Paradise, Fellwar Stone
- Liquimetal Torque
- Sculpting Steel
- Aerial Surveyor
- Cranial Plating
Only seven ramp sources is low amount, consider more ramp? Ornithopter of Paradise without help is not a crewer, but it's good ramp for Urza which is just as important. Liquimetal Torque, if it's not making mana it can make Urza an artifact giving him menace to have an easier time attacking and doing Commander damage. Sculpting Steel can be a mana rock or any other artifact on the battlefield. It's another Metamorph effect which is excellent in multiplayer Commander. Aerial Surveyor is a Vehicle for ramp, but it can only get basic Plains which is still fine.
Cranial Plating is powerful with artifacts and it can be used with 0 power artifacts to make them crewers or attackers.
Good luck with your deck.

Hey, good upgrades to the precon, what you've done so far.
How do you want to win? Determining the main strategy you want to play can help to keep good cards for that strategy and cut unnecessary cards. If you're wanting to keep precon level budget then doing combat damage with Constructs and Commander damage with Urza are directions to consider. Research Thief and Bident of Thassa are excellent budget cards if you want to be attacking with Constructs. Making Urza an artifact makes him a reliable source of Commander damage, but this means including effects to make Urza an artifact.
You have Urza, Lord High Artificer, he's a combo wincon, but to use him as a wincon you'll want to add other cards and more ways to assemble the combo. Drawing cards from Constructs doing combat damage to opponents is a good alternative to playing expensive price tutors to get combo pieces in your hand.
You have Tezzeret, Master of the Bridge, you don't really need Mycosynth Golem especially not for it's price tag. You don't need this Tezzeret either, but if you have it might as well play it. The first cuts to consider are lands since 41 lands is a lot when the strategy here are artifacts. Consider cutting 6 lands? Lands that always ETB tapped and are worse then others that also do this. If you feel you need more mana then add mana sources (rocks, dorks) not lands.
- Orzhov Basilica, Azorius Chancery, Dimir Aqueduct
- Temple of Silence, Temple of Deceit, Temple of Enlightenment
The Bounce lands and Scry lands are worse always ETB tapped lands then Tri lands, Bridges, etc.
Some advice for more cuts is choose the top 20 creatures here, top 10 artifacts and top 10 other nonland cards. By choosing the best cards then you can cut a huge chunk away of lesser cards.
Creatures:
- Urza, Lord High Artificer
- Research Thief
- Losheel, Clockwork Scholar
- Thought Monitor, Ethersworn Sphinx
- Ornithopter of Paradise, Etherium Sculptor
- Phyrexian Metamorph
- Spellskite, Padeem, Consul of Innovation
- Ethersworn Canonist
- Baleful Strix
- Hangarback Walker, Sai, Master Thopterist
- Steel Overseer
- Armix, Filigree Thrasher
- Emry, Lurker of the Loch, Sharuum the Hegemon
- The Reality Chip, Lion Sash
Artifacts:
- Sol Ring
- Arcane Signet, Chromatic Lantern
- Liquimetal Torque
- Talisman of Dominance, Talisman of Hierarchy
- Scourglass
- Swiftfoot Boots
- Cranial Plating, Shadowspear
- Strionic Resonator
Others:
- Their Name is Death, Phyrexian Scriptures
- The Flesh is Weak
- Tezzeret, Master of the Bridge
- Artificer Class
- Austere Command
- Void Rend
- Swords to Plowshares
- Dovin's Veto
- Thoughtcast
For upgrading it's easier to get an established list that's not 99 cards then have a list that's way over 99 cards. Really any 0-3 drop artifact creature who can make some value to take advantage of Urza artifact creature affinity or any 0-2 drop mana rock for more ramp can fill unfilled deck spots.
Good luck with your deck.

Hey Zorke,
I have a Budget Animar deck built around morph.
Couple questions, first is what is the goal of the deck? Briefly looking, seems to be a Tuned (Mid) 5 or 6 deck, is your goal to stay around that or looking to build towards an Optimed (High) 7 or 8? It really will change what the recommendations are in terms of Land Base / Ramp Efficiency / Combo / Mana-Curve.
The obvious missing card here is Ancestral Statue. With Animar, Soul of Elements at 4 counters, he can make an infinitely large general just by repeatedly bouncing Ancestral Statue with itself. It also contributes to the infinite ETB triggers for things like Beast Whisperer and Purphoros, God of the Forge as examples. You have some non-morph in there, so I'm not sure its a flavor exclude, but maybe a no-combo exclude?
Keep in mind too that although Animar, Soul of Elements discounts the casting cost to play the morph face down, however, he doesn't discount the morph cost to flip them back up, so you have to selective on the morphs you choose, otherwise you lose the ability to activate their morph abilities.
There are some noteable ramp creatures missings, Birds of Paradise for sure, flying/ramp/animar counter, checks lots of boxes. Solemn Simulacrum can be decent ramp, he sticks with a 5/6 theme a bit tougher to find space in a 7/8 if that is the goal. Peregrine Drake is another notable ramp createure.
Heraldic Banner is a bit strange, name by volume, or for a majority of the flyers? I'm not sure. Something like Ornithopter of Paradise feels better even without haste/riot.
Dunno why Stuffy Doll would be in here, he needs either a Blazing Sunsteel or Ill-Tempered Loner Flip to elminate a single opponent, so no highly efficient. You dont really have a way to retarget him either, even with a Blazing Sunsteel would need more creatures like Icefeather Aven or Echo Tracer. Not recommending, just saying without more bounce he just wasting a spot.
Aether Hub just seems like a bad City of Brass or Mana Confluence. There a lots of lands that would improve your deck, commander lands like Rejuvenating Springs/Training Center or fetch lands like Misty Rainforest/Wooded Foothills.
Unless Tidespout Tyrant is a favorite or something, his CMC is ridiculous and shouldn't be in there, Animar, Soul of Elements can't pay the .
Keep Safe isn't a modular counterspell. Just a plain Counterspell would be better. Depending on power level, there are 0 mana counterspells, 1 mana counterspells, and good 2 mana counterspells. Also, don't forget you have your morphs with counterspells.
Shaleskin Plower is a good example of a heavy morph cost, for an ability you dont really need.
Gilded Lotus isn't reduced by the general counters, not sure why we would want it.
Have lots more ideas, just need a deck goal point of reference to give some better recommendations.

I already have Ornithopter of Paradise.
I prefer Signets insted of those Myr because they can die easily with "destroy target creature" or "destroy target artifact" or even Wraith and Signets only with "destroy target artifact".
Thanks for ypur opinion.
