Soldevi Digger Discussion
Notes from game on 09/08/2019:
- Bloodchief Ascension
- Exsanguinate - took out 3 players simultaneously
- Hex Parasite - OMG belongs in almost any black deck
- Lake of the Dead
- Overwhelming Forces
- Painful Quandary
- Phyrexian Obliterator
- Staff of the Death Magus
- Sword of Light and Shadow
Worth Considering for Removal:
- Arcane Lighthouse - unlikely to need / redundant with Detection Tower
- Lich's Mirror - I made a dumb mistake not paying enough attention to the win condition
- Maralen of the Mornsong (sigh) this was originally her deck
- Ob Nixilis, Unshackled - keep for at least one more round
- Platinum Emperion - belongs in another deck, redundant with Platinum Angel
- Soldevi Digger - very unlikely to need
- The Haunt of Hightower - I want to make this a better card than it really is, but I have to face it.

ubermaan, Although Soldevi Digger and Reito Lantern aren't creatures, they offer the same utility as Epitaph Golem which, will allow you to use their abilities multiple times/turn (since they don't require tapping as part of the cost). I used to run a creature heavy Grenzo deck and the amount of work those cards can do for the build is absolutely incredible. Pair them with a Scry effect and you'll be able to move creatures down to the bottom with ease.
A good option to help you fish Artifacts out of the graveyard would be Goblin Welder . That way if you do get unlucky and accidentally toss one of them off of a blind use of Grenzo's ability, at least you'll have a chance to get it back.

Ohhh I just noticed that you're missing Soldevi Digger . Another way to put those critters back on the bottom of your library can't hurt right? Well... can't hurt you! I don't know how you're opponents will feel afterward =P

Loaming Shaman acts a bit like Worldspine Wurm and Arashin Sovereign, if you sac him with the ETB trigger on the stack you can shuffle him back in like he has a built in Soldevi Digger. Plus it has applications in other scenarios.

Suggestions for cuts? Plains is easy, I guess I could swap out the Soldevi Digger for Tithe when I eventually get one.
I think if I add the Eternal Thirst and Scythe, I'll need to add some more deathtouch. These are definitely interesting additions.

Ashnod's Altar, Soldevi Digger and Priest of Gix, Priest of Urabrask or any token producer. Sacrifice one of the priests to Ashnod's Altar. Put it from the top of your graveyard on the bottom of your library with Soldevi Digger using the mana Altar gave you. Use Grenzo to put the priest back on the field. Get 3 mana. Sacrifice it for 2 mana. Put it on the bottom of your library with Digger. You still have 3 mana. Use 2 mana for Grenzo to put the priest back on the field. Repeat steps for infinite mana. Anything that makes at least one token can also go infinite with this, as you can sacc the tokens to the altar along with the producer. With 2 tokens, you can get infinite mana.
Soldevi Digger and Workhorse - Remove 4 counters from Workhorse, killing Workhorse and getting 4 mana. Put Workhorse on the bottom of your library with Digger. Throw it back out with Grenzo. Repeat steps. With Ashnod's Altar, you can also make infinite mana by removing 3 counters from Workhorse, then saccing it. You then have 5 mana total. Use 4 mana to throw Workhorse back out with Digger and Grenzo and you'll have 1 mana left, so just repeat steps for infinite mana.
