Kuro, Pitlord Discussion

Dragon2559 on Kaalia The Killer

Thank you for very much for sharing! I have a couple of questions:

Kuro, Pitlord: I imagine he is mostly a one-shot effect, has he been performing well for you?

Collective Brutality: Does the discard option raise this over other removal options like Swords to Plowshares? I don't see single-target discard like Thoughtseize, Duress, etc. often in multiplayer EDH.

Subterranean Tremors: Do you prefer this to Toxic Deluge?

Eidolon of Rhetoric, Ethersworn Canonist: What is your opinion of these two compared to Rule of Law? Do the creature bodies and lower cost (respectively) outweigh the immunity to creature removal and restriction on artifact?

Final Parting: This card seems awfully expensive to me in a cEDH environment, even for tutoring your full combo. Has it been working well for you?

Chalice of the Void, Sanctum Prelate: What is the correct number to name with these in cEDH?

Worldgorger Dragon: As one of the most high-risk high-reward combos out there, how often does this backfire on you and how do you know when to "go for it"?

Thanks again for writing this! Several of the cards (esp. the fast mana) are out of my price range, but it's great to see someone doing well in cEDH with my favorite commander :D

mfogle you'll definitely like my most recent revisions.

I've replace Archdemon of Unx and Eater of Hope and Carnifex Demon for Kuro, Pitlord. Acrhdemon is to slow, eater needs to many resources to be efficient and carnifex has the problem of hitting my commander and has limited kill potential and use.

I've included Secret Salvage which is ideal for a shadowborn EDH deck and Archfiend of Despair shuts down life gain while doubling life loss.

Best of all I dropped Bloodgift Demon for Krav, the Unredeemed who is perfect for a shadowborn deck.

Lastly I think I'll swap Reprocess for Liliana's Contract when I am able to, reprocess can net you more cards but you have to have the available creatures to sac, versus contract will net you four cards no matter what, plus the additional win con makes it an excellent card for this build.

Let me know what kind of build you go with when its finished, I'd recommend all of the above mentioned.

I like it, there's some spicy shit here. I'm sure you know you can target yourself with Torgaar to gain life, so you should be running more pay life effects. Necropotence and Greed are amazing. Carrion Howler and Kuro, Pitlord might be good too. Vedalken Orrery goes in almost every deck. Playing Torgaar at instant speed seems really good. I'm not a fan of Yahenni's Expertise. Toxic Deluge is just better. Empty the Pits is also bad. Too expensive and you don't want Delve to be exiling your stuff. I would also take out some of the vanilla creatures to make room. Finally, Cabal Coffers and Cabal Stronghold (the new one from Dominaria.)

Pluto__ on Commanders of Ixalan: Vampires

It might be interesting and more flavorful to do more of a life-pay type deck, and then use life switching cards. It fits the theme of Vona more, while also being a very curious strategy.

Life-Loss:

Read the Bones

Bond of Agony

Wall of Blood

Cruel Sadist

Kuro, Pitlord

Necropotence

Underworld Coinsmith

Life-Switch:

Axis of Mortality

Magus of the Mirror

Repay in Kind

Mirror Universe

Soul Conduit

Reverse the Sands

You would still have lifelink cards, but be a little less focused on having the highest life total, but instead use your life to gain the advantage.

Well, you can target Shaman with its own ability to get the triggers from Daru, or you could use Lightning Greaves to equip and unequip itself from Daru/Shaman, though you require another creature in play.

You could also sac the boosted creature to Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim, or Disciple of Griselbrand, you could also attack with the creature to kill a player and using Ikra Shidiqi, the Usurper to gain life from that. You can then pour that into Aetherflux, Kuro, Pitlord, or Ad Nauseam

I like the deck! I have deck similar with the goal of exsanguinate. personally I prefer Profane Command over Consume Spirit as it has more utility and will let you get your critters back into the field. To me Kuro, Pitlord seems a little counterproductive as he sucks up mana every turn making you blast for less with exsanguinate. I'm also a fan of Crypt Ghast or Nirkana Revenant. here is a link to my deck if you want to check it to see if you get any ideas from it: Black Ramp. Good luck with it!
