NOTICE BEFORE QUESTION: Throughout development of this deck, a lot of you actually wanted Admiral Becket Brass as a Tribal Deck to be more true to actual Pirates, especially flavor in various ways (Is opposed to Tribe Concept in general.), & having good stuff backing up this claim. For this one, FLAVOR in addition to being viable is the Ultimate Fact. Because that's what so many would've wanted.

Q1: This deck is >100 Cards, so this should be a no brainer; what to cut, matey?

Q2: Cards here like Angrath's Marauders , & Timestream Navigator are Pirates w/ more well gimmicked abilities. Angrath's Marauders is like a one-sided Furnace of Rath , But Timestream Navigator is great for a 2-Card Infinite Turns Combo. Flavor-wise, what second piece would be good in a deck w/ her? If she is to stay?

Q3: Is Angrath, Minotaur Pirate truly needed? Maybe I just might not need him; I'd like the opinions of others though...

Q4 FINAL: By this point, to stay true to Pirate Flavor, what other cards to replace for the 100 Card Target; while having quite some Aggro, & moreso, possibly; maybe even adding stuff from THRONE OF ELDRAINE?

Hello, bushido_man96. If I remember well; & most likely won't, last time we talked, you didn't give much of a suggestion, even to the point of mentioning me as "Self-Unreliant." for not being able to build my own Decks w/o overuse of help. Since then, I've been trying to help myself be the exact opposite, & it STILL hasn't worked well; considering I've been here for 3+ Years now...

Not that I've any hard feelings to you; though there are some things that probably do need help on; but I'm just going to refer it in what was said earlier. Correct me IF I'm wrong, but you stated my Admiral Beckett Brass Pirate Tribal Deck never needed Demonic Tutor nor Mana Drain in the first place. As I plan to make a more Unorthodox Goblin Tribal Deck using Pashalik Mons than the norm. I also plan to throw in Angrath's Marauders & Angrath, Minotaur Pirate if either are needed. I also plan to do a Mayael the Anima Deck Post-Release of Throne of Eldraine; & an ADAM RUINS EVERYTHING Vorthos/Melvin deck w/ a Karona, False God base until I decide what direction to go... But I just wonder in this case: Many of my decks that run either , , or Both usually have either Mana Drain and/or Demonic Tutor . All I ask is which decks don't need either or both, & what Ideal replacement to even use for both? Maybe what you can think of might be as good as either, but for what decks do they need these Alts. in question? & what cards for both?

As this was a part of a topic w/ more lists in the same forum posts, I decided to separate them for nothing; or, maybe some cause...

Why does so many hate Pirate Tribal? I personally believe as a Tribe, they're only getting better overtime. This is one of my decks suffering to see what cards in the Maybeboard (Hot Seat) that deserve a second chance in the deck. Whilst I have some Raid effects here, I never thought about Explore effects; they just are that good, but why did I exclude them? Here is what I want for this deck:

  1. What cards to use in Grixis that can help w/ this tribe?

  2. What are the best cards w/ explore in this tribe?

  3. What suggestions do you have to stop decks against your Aggro?

  4. What other cards would you suggest? & how to work cards like Timestream Navigator & other kinds of cards in this case?

  5. Is Angrath, Minotaur Pirate needed here? What about Angrath's Marauders ? A one-sided Furnace of Rath on legs should be fine, right?

&... that's all I'm asking for now. The deck already is at 100 (I think?), but the Hot Seat is there as a beacon for Room for improvement. Remember that. I'll get to you later; I never thought a place for multiple decks in one post IS a Phail...

Nearly all decks have a Hotseat for the Maybeboard. Besides Xantcha, Sleeper Agent . All that's needed there is 13 cuts, & it should be good. As for the rest of the Hotseat Sitters, I'll explain why each is on there:

With one of the best I can currently comprehend, Kadena & her Morphs' real problem for this Hotseat is whether of not such things should stay in the decklist. Some might actually do, others probably don't fit here. That said, I'm wondering what could work in a deck w/ the potential to make Morphs free; as in (Mega)Morph/Manifest . That said, The creatures in the Hotseat do include some great stuff I want to return to this deck; but how is this possible when even the Signets, other artifice, & every enchantment has a positive for each? It will be a tough goal for this Hotseat, but I think I can do this; hopefully w/ you...


Yep, Pirate Tribal; & I chose that name to see how much ferocity someone like Beckett Brass Really IS. Problem one is easy though; "it Explores". "Reveal the top card of your library. Put that card into your hand if it's a land. Otherwise, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature, then put the card back or put it into your graveyard."

Several cards in the Hotseat have this ability, & I actually cut them for the Hotseat! I also wanted to do some Time H4X via Timestream Navigator , but using her...

...Is the same as everyone wanting to kill her chances back onto the deck. Even Angrath, Minotaur Pirate would be a Bad idea here in Pirate Tribal. But what are your opinions? What should stay, & what deserves their Buttcheeks cut, & forced to wear it?

Now it's all up to you; besides Tana & Bruce; I'd like that same link from earlier by Caerwyn please. I hope you don't mind.

Again, I don't mean to ruin your fun, but as this website is designed to help improve decks...

First, I assume it's just a midrange Pirate tribal deck. I don't really see any Revel in Riches shenanigans or anything. There is a little bit of artifact interaction, and I think that's something that could be built upon.

Deadeye Plunderers is a ridiculous card that can end games fast if you can build up a bunch of artifacts. But, it's a liability if you don't have any on the board. A 3/3 for 5 is too slow by itself. I think that two copies sounds fair, and with two copies, you'll most assuredly have a smile on your face when you topdeck it. Going with the Artifact subtheme, I would say 2 Fell Flagship wouldn't hurt.

Captain Lannery Storm is a really nice way to power up Deadeye Plunderers . Even if you don't have one, she ramps you up a turn or two, which if we want to run Nicky B and Moo, we're going to need. Three copies is plenty, as she's powerful, but still legendary.

Dire Fleet Captain works really well in any Pirate deck. I run four in mine, but mine is super aggressive. I think that with a longer game , less copies are necessary. I would also say that Dire Fleet Neckbreaker is a great way to close out games, but for a more casual and fun game, two is plenty. March of the Drowned will also be pretty helpful later in the game. 2x. If you want even more Pirates to go with the treasure you're amassing, perhaps 3 Fathom Fleet Captain .

Now, this shocks me. You run two Planeswalkers from planeswalker decks, but fail to use their fetch cards. Especially as they're perfect in casual games. I would say 2 of both Angrath's Fury and Visage of Bolas . And of course, keep all of the Planeswalkers the same, number and all. I would also say that Angrath, the Flame-Chained is on flavor. Why just take their loyalty abilities when you can help yourself to everything they have? Maybe 1 Admiral Beckett Brass too.

We should put in more Treasure, so 3 Sailor of Means and 2 Wily Goblin . Slap them in with the power of FlexTape! (not sponsored). Removal is lacking, so I would say 3x Unlicensed Disintegration. Trust me, it's worth it.

And we're left with 2 more slots. More instant and sorcery spells would make this a control deck. Hostage Taker is great in casual games, but it costs a pretty penny. I think that 1 copy of Revel in Riches wouldn't hurt, as we have a bunch of treasure token makers. To help you win with Treasure tokens so you can throw them in the air as depicted in the art, then Storm the Vault  Flip is our best bet.

Do whatever with the mana base, I guess. Maybe Artifact Lands. I left out Fathom Fleet Boarder as it literally kills you for no reason. Rona isn't a Pirate and is a liability, and Dreamcaller Siren is neat, but niche. Sideboard material. I believe the list I spent the last hour on is budget, but I hope it gives you some inspiration and perhaps a few new tricks to try with your friends.

Just remember this rule of thumb with Pirates: Anything they can do, you can do better.

I really like the idea of abusing sorin’s new passive! I have some suggestions

1: Ghostly Prison and Leyline of Sanctity don’t seem to be doing much. I think by turn 3 and four (when you would play ghostly prison or a topdecked leyline), you want to be playing your planeswalkers instead. I would go for early interaction instead, like Fatal Push and Path to Exile . I like the Kaya enchantment though.

2: I think you have better choices for Ob Nixilis Reignited and Chandra, the Firebrand . Especially nixilis. He’s kinda bad.

All of the following could be put in instead of nixilis or Chandra. He first few are kind of fringe choices that may or may not be good.

1: Angrath, Minotaur Pirate with lifelink would be insane, but he is a little spendy.

2: Chandra, Flamecaller ’s -X ability would also be crazy with lifelink, but she runs into the same problem than angrath does.

3: Chandra, Acolyte of Flame would just be there to buff up your red walkers

4: Gideon of the Trials could be a good defensive card, and he would he lifelink from sorin when he turns into a creature.

5: Jaya, Venerated Firemage would be an absolute bomb with sorin on the field.

6: Ob Nixilis, the Hate-Twisted would be a better choice if you want at least one nixilis, since he synergizes with sorin’s passive

Boudica, Legions of War

Legendary Planeswalker - Boudica

+2 Until end of turn, whenever a non-token creature you control attacks you create a 2/1 black Warrior creature token tapped and attacking.

-X Destroy X target lands you control. Target opponent sacrifices X lands they control.

-11 Destroy all creatures you don't control, then exile all graveyards. Each opponent loses life equal to the number of cards exiled from their graveyard in this way.


Card Theory:

  • +2 rather than +1 to keep on par with similarly costed Lord Windgrace . Token creation is seen in all three Mardu colors, but requiring to attack is a distinctly red color. Pays homage to, of all colors, Mardu Strike Leader . Felt a 2/1 token was better than a 1/1 with Vigilance as this forces your opponent into a much harder situation with regards to resolving blockers and combat damage. The idea is to keep pressure on your opponent. If you swing with 5 non-token creatures, you are creating an additional 10 points of damage with 5x 2/1s. That's a very hard thing to reconcile. However this also means you must open yourself up by attacking with everyone. And so, like with real war, it becomes a balance of decisions; How do you best utilize the information you have available for the greatest impact possible?

  • -X: Admittedly this is dangerously broken. However, all three colors show us prime examples of completely destroying lands in full. Just as a small list, there are: Armageddon , Catastrophe , Ravages of War , Obliterate , Ruination (Which lets be honest, that'll be most lands in many formats), Decree of Annihilation , Desolation Angel , Ajani Vengeant and many others such as Worldslayer and Gideon, Champion of Justice . There's also the horrendous combo in black of Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth + Kormus Bell + Curse of Death's Hold . So yes, while blowing up potentially 6 lands your opponent controls for may seem absolutely broken, keep in mind the game has TONS of cards that do even worse things, and you are losing the same amount of lands as well - which in Mardu is one of your biggest vices in the first place.

EDIT: In order to smooth out the sheer impact of this ability, I increased her casting cost up by +. Now it takes six lands to cast her and will blow up all six lands you have if you decide to crack her off at full potential and kill her - Thus resetting the game mid-stride.

Try to splash some black cards. Try to insert Lost Legacy, Duress, Divest, Torment of Hailfire

With the first three you can literally control the game in the first 3-4 turns and then you can start to play sagas, artifact and if you want you can consider Angrath, the Flame-Chained versus control deck as win condition or Angrath, Minotaur Pirate versus creatures deck as win condition.
