Hey Cloudius, did you see that they are reprinting Imperial Seal in Double Masters 2? There are also rumors about reprinting Capture of Jingzhou. I immediately had to think of your deck:) Btw, I had written before the I was trying for a less strong version of your deck. But it doesn't work. Once they know what the game plan is you immediately become archenemy. Well, they are reprinting Mana Vault, too, and Cavern of Souls. And I'm hoping for Mana Drain

Quickspell YES I saw that they're reprinting Imperial Seal! The long wait is finally over.
I typically become the Archenemy when my friends see Yennett in the command zone if they've played against this deck before. The surprise element is gone and we expect to face more removals and counterspells thrown our way. I usually bide for time and not showhand too early, waiting for a window of opportunity to do my shenanigans. In a way, I view this as a recognition that this quirky deck is a force to be reckoned with and that's a good thing!

Hey Cloudius, they are finally reprinting Capture of Jingzhou in the Commander Masters Set in August this year. It‘s coming in normal and foil edge.

Hello! I stumbled across your deck while I was doing research for a modern brew of mine that uses Proteus Staff, Belcher, and Zirda as a companion. I'm wondering if you've seen the staff+belcher combo anywhere else? I'm not familiar with the EDH seen, but so far yours and mine are the only decks I've found with the combo. +1 from me! Thanks!

NobleRooster Thanks for the upvote. I only play EDH so am not familiar with the modern meta. I suppose the common elements would apply - how to create that creature to staff away. In my case, I use my commander, in your case, you've Zirda as the companion. Manlands are awesome for this purpose imho.
Good luck searching for staff+belcher related combos. I'll ping you if I chanced upon them.

Hey Cloudius, I very much like your deck and have crafted my own version of it. Since I don't have Capture of Jingzhou , I put in Mnemonic Deluge . It works very well with Time Warp and Temporal Manipulation , especially if you can target it with Mirrorpool .

Quickspell Thanks for the upvote. Alrund's Epiphany can replace Capture of Jingzhou and it is much cheaper too. I bought a copy of Mnemonic Deluge but never got down to making space for it in the deck. Let me know how your games went against different decks in your meta.
Hope you enjoy piloting the deck as much as I do. Cheers.

I love the idea of this deck, this is 100% one of the directions that I want to take my Yennett brew, be it with a few changes or not lmao. She was my first real commander and it was mostly a pile of jank, but this idea seems so fun to play with. Do you have any updates regarding the new sets that have come out?

Be sure to check out some of my other innovative brews too! Cheers.

Hey Cloudius, it's been nearly a years since I've built your deck and I've played it quite enough by now. I have changed a few things, though. Your design is actually too strong for my meta. I found it to be not so pleasant to take up so much of my coplayer's time. The extra turns are not the issue - the theme of spot on and satisfying. But the immense amount of tutoring is not so much, as most of the game is just me skimming through my deck to take extra turns while everybody is watching bored until I finish up the game. So I nerfed it by swapping tutors with protection. I was just wondering, is you meta not annoyed by this?

Hello there, Cloudius. I've actually uploaded my variant of your list right now, so if you're interested here you are: Resolve the Riddle for Free Gifts.
Obviously I've put all the link to your deck and your profile, I'm not some kind of copycat, but hey, better specify.
Anyway, keep up the good work and good plays!

Hi Cloudius
After playing this deck for a few months I sadly have to retire it. My local gamestore(s) have banned extra turns on commander nights (why they haven't banned the color blue instead is up for discussion I guess). I have won a fair share of commander nights with it (maybe 5-6 or so?) All I can say is that Cavern of Souls has saved my ass more then one would think, I also replaced 2 Island's with a Tundra and a Scrubland. I cut Blinkmoth Nexus for Command Beacon, because let me tell you, seeing it get destroyed/removed 3 times can become rather costly and this card really helps out then. I also preffered to run Mox Opal over Mox Diamond seeing I had more luck with artifacts in play then lands in my hand (Land Destruction is a well known theme in these parts). I also ditched Dark Petition to run Imperial Seal instead, in all my games Yennett never hit Dark Petition and casting it from my hand was to painful for that mana cost (all this was ofc, personal experience). Hall of the Bandit Lord can be pretty hit and miss and I tried to run it a couple of times, It either becomes a dead pull when I needed it, or it became to costly to pay the 3 life. I cut it in the end.
I will keep an eye out from time to time on your deck. For me, until they unban extra turns will retire this deck. Looking forward on how you can adjust this deck in the future.

Kapitein_Koekblik Thank you so much for the feedback and I'm glad the deck did well in your local game stores... while it lasted. Just curious, how many Commander Nights did you participate in with the deck to gather a 5-6 wins result?
All the cards you've replaced, are cards I wanted but can't afford to acquire for the deck at the moment, so good call on your part. Like you, I'm in 2 minds about Hall of the Bandit Lord too, thus it's inclusion only in the maybeboard till now.
I do have a Command Beacon lying around and will take your advice to include it in my deck. Looking forward to hearing from you on the above although it is unfortunate you can't take the deck out for a spin much going forward.

Cloudius I think to around 25 nights or so, I either played this or super best villians. Came in 2nd and 3rd a few times and sometimes I was bumped out in 4-5 turns because I played blue and finished in the Bottom 4. At one store it was voted most original deck during a tournament and got 2 boosters for it. In the end it was a lot of fun, if anything I'll keep it sleeved for now. Although replacing the extra turn cards makes this deck hella slow after play testing it. Don't know of it's worth looking into alternatives.

Kapitein_Koekblik Thanks for sharing. Seems like the deck performed fairly well! The "Most Original Deck" award is awesome!
I re-looked at the deck last night and agree with you that without the extra turn spells, the deck will not function as well and the essence of this original brew is lost.
Perhaps when I've more time, I'll see if we can come up with something that's equally original and fun, without abusing the extra turns. Fingers crossed

This deck is pretty sweet! However, the commander-reliance concerns me. If she gets removed/countered a few times, you're gonna have a bad time. Same if you get hit by a few artifact wipes -- it doesn't seem like you have much draw.
Have you considered running God-Eternal Kefnet, to get access to several other infinite-turn combos? He goes infinite with things like Brainstorm on Isochron Scepter, or with Scroll Rack + an extra turn spell.
...Oh, wait, shoot. That screws up your Proteus Staff line. Ignore me. I'm gonna leave the suggestion here, though, in case you ever choose to change your combo lines and this becomes relevant.
Beyond that, Arcane Signet is strictly better than any of your other 2-mana rocks, and you're not running Fellwar Stone. I'd run either of those over Coalition Relic or Chromatic Lantern.
I'd also test with Cavern of Souls, solely to make your commander uncounterable. Hall of the Bandit Lord and Academy Ruins may both help as well.
Hope at least the artifact discussion helped XD

You're right about it being commander centric, similar to many "build around me" EDH decks and Commanders out there.
Arcane Signet is a absolute must have in this deck and the only thing holding me back is it's price now (for a common card)... LOL. I'm always looking for good 2 CMC rocks to replace the Relic and Lantern but I'm in 2 minds about Fellwar Stone as I absolutely need to hit asap and sometimes the stone just doesn't give me the right colors.
The lands you suggested are already in my Maybeboard.
All your suggestions are awesome and I always welcome inputs from another perspective! Thanks.

Edited.
I like the decklist "tutor-to-top" and extra turn cards, but almost left because of this awful theme that hurts the eyes and cringes the brain. Not reading that crappy description. Giving a +1 before I change my mind out of frustration for this 2001 HTML-esque nightmare.

Hello there! I really love your deck, looks really fun to play and out of the ordinary EDH schemes!
Anyway, i'm here to ask you about some cards that i think will just be fine in this kind of deck.
Soothsaying Seems really on topic with it, you know, it's odd, it's a 1 mana drop and let you Shuffle and manipulate the topdeck. Talking about Enchantments, i also think Necropotence can be a thing. You know, you don't draw, but Yennett trigger in combat and does what she have to. The new Talisman of Hierarchy Seems also Good for mana Balance. I know it's veeeery expensive, but you also have Imperial Seal for topdeck tutor. Also, if you have the Isochron Scepter gaving Dramatic Reversal can also be good, for a infinite mana-combo that can be used to pull out something with Soothsaying . In the end, Aminatou, the Fateshifter could also be a nice add for topdeck manipulation and blink things like Liliana Vess and Tezzeret the Seeker for other tutors and Mana Vault or Grim Monolith for untap.
Cheers and keep up the good work!

PhantomHuscarl Thanks for your commendation and suggestions!
Here're some of my reasonings for the suggestions you've raised above:
Soothsaying - This card has been on my KIV list but I always end up cutting it to make room for other cards. The Shuffle effect is good. However, I'm not a fan of having to pay a lot of mana for the top of library manipulation. If you're building this deck, do test it out and let me know how it goes.
Necropotence - If you noticed, I don't play that many card draws in the deck. Much of the slots are dedicated to tutors and top of library manipulation. We also don't want to draw into the extra turn spells as we've limited ways to return them to top of library.
Talisman of Hierarchy - Good call. I haven't updated the ramp package recently and should really get a copy of this and add it into the deck!
Imperial Seal - It's listed in my Too Poor to Afford category in my Maybeboard. Always wanted to get my hands on one but my wallet says otherwise.
Isochron Scepter Dramatic Reversal Combo - Infinite Mana is awesome but I don't have mana sinks in this deck to effectively make use of the mana generated.
Aminatou, the Fateshifter - This is a good planeswalker that fits the theme of my deck very well. However, she needs to stick around longer to accrue value to justify her spot in the deck. With a deck that's creatureless except for the Commander, I've no means to protect Aminatou from combat damages.
The other PWs I play, are slightly different. Liliana is used to manipulate cards to the top of the library twice (usually taking 2 extra turns while I set up the wincon/combo pieces). Tezzeret is an artifact tutor that has served his purpose once he fetches the toy I need.
Keep your suggestions and discussions coming!

I'm failing to see how Goblin Charbelcher will help you win the game. Wouldn't you want it to instantly one-shot an opponent? I'd play Dramatic Reversal (to activate it as many times as you need to) or Mana Severance to take all of the lands out of the deck.
I haven't playtested it, but I will once I have the opportunity to. I'm building my own Yennett deck as well, but have taken it in a far different direction than you have.
January 12, 2020
12:27 a.m.
blfngl Proteus Staff allows me to rearrange my entire library. If my opponent is at 40 HP, all I need to do is to put 40 nonland cards at the top of my library before I activate the Charbelcher. It is a instant one-shot. I don't need the "Scepter Reversal" package or Mana Severance to combo off here.
Most mainstream Yennett decks I've seen plays big meanies like Eldrazis too, which is fine and fun. I just prefer to be the oddball here.
Once you're done building yours, post the link to your decklist here, looking forward to see the direction you took yours! We can continue to trade pointers from there. Cheers!

Ah, I missed that you don't have any other creatures. Cute! Mine's pretty run-of-the-mill for the most part, finished the first iteration today so I have lots more work to do: Powerful Yennett [75%]

3:42 a.m.
Hey there, Cloudius. Got all your argumentation, thou i was thinking of other cards that could fit well.
I don't have many aggro decks to my table, but i saw someone objecting how would you remain alive so, more for them than for you, here it is a little list of things that could be use for protection: the more renowed Ghostly Prison , Propaganda and Ensnaring Bridge , or the less known Koskun Falls , Crawlspace , Web of Inertia , Pendrell Mists , No Mercy . So, aggro it's not really a problem for Esper, including all wraths that the combination have.
Also, why not Enlightened Tutor ? You can always take Goblin Charbelcher or Isochron Scepter , have it for with Yennett and than combo off.
A couple more cards for topdeck manipulation can be Portent or Telling Time , and Silence , Turn Aside or Apostle's Blessing for protecting the combo.
Anyway, i'll surely build this up with a couple of changes (including Soothsaying ) and i'll let you know how it goes.
Cheers, PhantomHuscarl.

PhantomHuscarl Thanks for your inputs and bringing back the suggestions of your peers to me as well! Greatly appreciate it. I'm excited for you to get this deck going and try it out with your play group too.
I actually run a small removal package including a handful of board wipes (under the "Removal" category). For a combo based deck, I'm a firm believer that "Offense is the best Defense", so instead of running defensive cards like some of those suggested above, I'd rather include a few more tutors/card draws or Counterspells to accelerate the assembly of my combo pieces or to protect them.
Enlightened Tutor is in my Maybeboard and you can certainly replace it with Fabricate in your iteration. It's really more of a preference thing.
Portent , Telling Time , Omen are all good Top of Library Manipulation cards that we can consider, so feel free to mix and match to your preference too. In my opinion, those that allows you to put cards from your hand back to the top of the library (e.g. Brainstorm , Conch Horn should be given priority here just in case you draw your "Bombs" and you need ways to return them to top of library.
Silence is a good suggestion! I'm going to include it in my Maybeboard for now and see if I'm able to free up a slot for it soon.
Feel free to use the Playtest function here to try out the deck before you start forming it. You can PM me if you're unsure of the interactions.
Hope you continue to enjoy this exotic build! Cheers!

Cloudius says... Edit Remove Edit Delete #1
Quickspell Hi Hi! My Meta probably feels the same as you so I don't always bring this deck out and when I do, I play a game or two and change decks thereafter. You are right that when the engine gets going, it is pretty much solitaire mode from there, and if the rest are unable to stop the engine, they'll scoop and we start a new game.
By now, my Meta understands the deck mechanics very well and are able to stop the deck from going off, so it is an uphill battle for me each time I play this deck and I don't win as often as I used to. If your meta practice a Rule #0 conversation, it'll be good to inform them that this is what the deck is trying to achieve and see if they're ok with it.
The consistency in the deck lies in the immense amount of tutors and library manipulations that I've included. To lower the power level and make the deck more fun and random, we can always replace the tutors with card draws and/or other spells so that the deck isn't as consistent but definitely more fun (since you've less control over what you can cast for free via Yennett).
Do you have your deck on Tapped Out? I'd love to check it out!
