After too much time spent on Scryfall, I can get the opponent down below zero without starting with anything on the battlefield. You use 1996 world champion and reveal Infernal Spawn of Infernal Spawn of Evil which does not target. I cant figure out a way to get rid of the angel though

wallisface That one use is exactly what I’m saying. In my experience, new players are extremely squeamish about sacrificing permanents. I still agree with your overall point about trap cards, I just don’t think claws is a card that new players would think is amazing.

wallisface agree with you on all the points except the seventh one: IMO a new player would think Claws of Gix is horrible, and would put it as worse than it actually is.
