I’m back after a long break. I guess I’ll answer months after the questions I did not reply to… Sorry to everyone.

igorforkst I am not a fan of Null Brooch the 2-mana price tag is not really viable as we rarely have 2 extra mana to spare when Belzenlok is cast. After Belzenlok ETBs, counterspells are not that much of an issue. We have hand disruption through Grief to remove them and if one goes through, we can still threaten a win next turn.

Nempek I added your suggestions. Specially Grief is the single best card that has been printed in the recent years for this deck. Hand disruption during the turn we combo off is huge. It also has a very effective interaction with Sibsig Muckdraggers giving us and additional cheap discard effect. Regarding your second question, I am almost certain that the deck list you linked has a typo. I believe the player used Dread instead of Dread Presence.

xenca Awesome line, honestly, I like the fact that it uses more efficient combo pieces (artifacts that tap for mana). If you don’t have artifact hate in your meta I would 100% try running this line instead of the regular ooze. Despite the more efficient components of this robot ooze, I still believe Necrotic Ooze should be used by default to avoid being shut down by Stony Silence and Null Rod. The other issue I have with it is that it doesn’t gain Skirge Familiar’s activated ability, thus if an opponent attempts to remove Trazyn the Infinite when Argivian Avenger’s haste ability is on the stack with say Path to Exile and you are out of mana you can’t add by discarding and redo the loop.

  1. Pay 4{C}2{B} to cast Demonlord Belzenlok .

  2. Exile any black card not necessary to the combo to cast Unmask on yourself discarding Phantasmagorian .

  3. Discard Skirge Familiar , Dread Return , and any other non-combo card to return Phantasmagorian hand.

  4. Cast Deepwood Legate for free. If none of your opponents control a Forest , you will need: one extra {B} and two additional activations of Phantasmagorian 's ability (discarding 6 non-combo cards) to be able to fully delve into Sibsig Muckdraggers . Sibsig Muckdraggers ’s trigger requires an additional creature be present in your graveyard in order to avoid returning Skirge Familiar to your hand. Dross Golem can also be used here in place of Deepwood Legate .

  5. Cast Hollow One for free.

  6. Flashback Dread Return by sacrificing Demonlord Belzenlok , Hollow One and Deepwood Legate to return Skirge Familiar to the battlefield.

  7. Use Skirge Familiar 's ability to discard Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon , Lotus Guardian , Endling , Cinderhaze Wretch , and Dread to add 5{B}. -- Skirge Familiar can generate mana to cast Meteor Golem to deal with direct threats to the win condition.

  8. Pay to cast Necrotic Ooze . If Necrotic Ooze gets countered, return it using Makeshift Mannequin or Sibsig Muckdraggers .

  9. Pay to give Necrotic Ooze haste (courtesy of Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon ).

  10. Tap Necrotic Ooze to add {B} (courtesy of Lotus Guardian ).

  11. Pay to give Necrotic Ooze undying (courtesy of Endling ).

  12. Alternate between Lotus Guardian 's and Cinderhaze Wretch 's abilities until Necrotic Ooze dies to add 2{B}. Once Necrotic Ooze comes back with a +1/+1 counter via undying, pay to give it haste and undying (again) then continue to alternate between Lotus Guardian 's and Cinderhaze Wretch 's abilities until Necrotic Ooze dies to add 4{B}. Repeat this process until you have infinite {B}.

--- Optional: Give Necrotic Ooze infinite +1/+1, haste, undying, menace, and deathtouch from Deepwood Legate , Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon , and Endling . Then use both of Cinderhaze Wretch 's abilities to make all your opponents discard their hands.

Finally, use the infinite {B} mana to cast Syr Konrad, the Grim , continue generating infinite mana with Necrotic Ooze , Cinderhaze Wretch , and Lotus Guardian , and bleed out all of your opponents from the infinite undying triggers. Syr Konrad, the Grim 's ability can also be used to mill everybody else at the table. Dread hitting the graveyard and immediately leaving will also trigger damage.

Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and Triskelion can also be discarded with Skirge Familiar and then reanimated using Living Death for an alternate win condition.

Absolutely love the deck, Bazzul! The level of innovation here is impressive to say the least. I have been running Demonlord Belzenlok for ~2.5 years now as the general of a demon deck designed to control the board and exploit the power of the tribe in conjunction with your devotion to black. It has proven to be consistently strong and competitive, but not quite at the cEDH level.

I was wondering what advantage Sibsig Muckdraggers provides over cards like Zombify or Betrayal of Flesh regarding synergy. I get it's there to revive Necrotic Ooze , but the other two seem as if they would be better options since they would completely reanimate Necrotic Ooze vs. just putting him in hand. Maybe I'm missing something here, I just wanted to hear your thoughts and reasoning for Sibsig Muckdraggers . I am currently in the process of brainstorming a version of your list so I can finally use my favorite general in the realm of cEDH. All credit to you, and I look forward to hearing back from you when you have some time! Cheers.

3> Ahhh I've been wanting to play with Obosh, the Preypiercer and Angrath's Marauders - glad you found a spot for them. While you're at it, you could also consider other "damage doublers" such as Wound Reflection and Fiendish Duo. I've thought about a Vial-Smasher deck with a White partner just to add Gisela, Blade of Goldnight.

3> I see you enjoy big monsters and X-spells here. Oh to be young again... but seriously, this seems like a good deck to play them in as you would be rewarded. Instants are your friend, as you can Smash Vials on everyone's turn! No Comet Storm?

3> I would be worried about Vial-Smasher getting nuked from orbit as soon as your turn passes and it's no longer indestructible. You'll find Heroic Intervention and Slippery Bogbonder will help with targeted Exile removal. You already have Destroy and Sacrifice covered I see.

3> I see some cost-reduced and commander-free spells in there, but you have a limited suite. While doing research for my thoughts on Vial-Smasher, I found the following might be helpful - list is just copy/paste, so it will include some White and/or Blue cards:

This deck performs very well with some decently large deficiencies. I think you need to cut some weaker cards (sorceries and creatures mostly) and add in more Ninjas and ninja synergies.

Cards to Cut: Creatures: Definite cuts are Jeskai Infiltrator, but I'd also heavily consider trimming Dark Impostor, Deathcult Rogue, Etrata, the Silencer, and Nezumi Cutthroat.

Sorceries: Definitely cut Hour of Eternity, Kefnet's Last Word, Paranoid Delusions and consider trimming Ghostform, Slip Through Space, or Stealth Mission.

Artifacts, Enchantments, Instants, Planeswalkers, and Lands: I would definitely cut Briber's Purse, Fatal Push, and Vraska, Scheming Gorgon while also giving thought to the merits of including Skygames, Bontu's Monument, Forge of Heroes, Unclaimed Territory, and of, or at least the Amonkhet, cycling lands.

The cards I have recommended are either slow, have low to zero synergy with the rest of the deck, or are typically weak in commander.

Cards to Add Creatures: Ninjas, ninjas, and more ninjas (plus some cheaper unblockables for good measure). There are 19 Ninjas in mtg history (excluding changelings). You have 11 in this deck. I think you ought to have more. The cheapest are Mistblade Shinobi, Okiba-Gang Shinobi, Skullsnatcher, Throat Slitter, and Walker of Secret Ways. Higure, the Still Wind and Ink-Eyes, Servant of Oni are both reasonable splurges in terms of powerful Ninjas to acquire. Now for other creatures to enable Ninjitsu. First off, I could have included Changeling Outcast in the last section since it is also a Ninja and you should absolutely be running it in here. Other small unblockables for you to Ninjitsu into are Gudul Lurker, Slither Blade, Tormented Soul, Faerie Seer, Mothdust Changeling, Gingerbrute, Dimir Infiltrator, Baleful Strix, Invisible Stalker, Augury Owl, Sage Owl, Spire Owl, and Cloud of Faeries. All of these cards are less than 3 cmc, and are either entirely unblockable or have good etb/ltb or dealing combat damage synergy (and are mostly pretty cheap too). I'd recommend adding at least 3 or 4 of them in addition to the above ninjas.

Other cards: This section is mostly for general things that you could do to make this deck more consistent and enjoyable to pilot, but there are a couple specific synergies I think you're missing out on. They're both pretty intertwined so I'll just address them together. I think you could be putting in a few more cards that are good to reveal off of Yuriko's trigger and ways to manipulate the top of your library so you get those card when they are most impactful. I am referring to cards like Treasure Cruise, Sibsig Muckdraggers, Temporal Trespass, Dig Through Time, Draco, Consign / Oblivion, Murderous Cut, Far / Away, Curtains' Call, Into the Story, Submerge, Commandeer, Commit / Memory, Discovery / Dispersal, Rags / Riches, In Garruk's Wake, and any other high cost card that has an alternate mana cost, mana reducing ability, split card, or is a high impact card. Then you could also throw in a few ways to manipulate the top of your library like Brainstorm, Ponder, Serum Visions, Tamiyo's Epiphany, and Crystal Ball. The only other synegystic thing you could put in here is making your other creatures Ninjas as well with Conspiracy, Xenograft, Arcane Adaptation, and Amorphous Axe.

Otherwise, you could probably add in some more ramp (Sol Ring, Mind Stone, Star Compass, etc.), card draw (see cantrips above and Last Thoughts), board wipes (could probably replace Bontu's Last Reckoning with some of the ones from the last section or just add those ones or some other good boardwipes) and spot removal or counterspells (I don't see a lot of good ways to deal w/ non-creature permanents in here).

if this deck is for casual then i'd say its pretty alright for a fun break from the norm. Only 10 cards short of a commander deck too if you want to go that route. But if you're looking for more competitiveness, I'd say to do the following:

The first thing we need to do before anything, is to figure out the strategy we're going for. Obviously a token based liliana deck is way out of reasonable budgets. The blue you added does give me an idea for a control based zombie deck.

So the first thing to do is remove the cards above 60 that we wouldn't need, along with cards that will don't either assist or protect our strategies. I would start by removing the following: 2 - Advanced Stitchwing. 2 - Certain Death. 1 - Collective Brutality. 1 - Corrupt. 1 - Corrupted Roots. 2 - Disentomb. 1 - Doom Blade. 1 - Essence Harvest. 1 - Gnawing Zombie. 1 - Grixis Slavedriver. 1 - Grixis Grimblade. 1 - Hunted Ghoul. 1 - Haunted Dead. 3 - Ingenious Skaab. 4 - Laboratory Brute. 1 - Lamplighter of Selhoff. 1 - Maalfeld Twins. 2 - Macabre Waltz. 2 - Midnight Recovery. 1 - Mistvein Borderpost. 1 - Moan of the Unhallowed. 2 - Paranoid Delusions. 1 - Polluted Dead. 2 - Psychic Strike. 1 - Recover. 1 - Rise from the Grave. 1 - Scrapskin Drake. 1 - Shambling Attendants. 1 - Sibsig Host. 1 - Sibsig Muckdraggers. 1 - Sidisi's Pet. 1 - Sip of Hemlock. 1 - Skinrender. 1 - Spineless Thug. 1 - Stitched Mangler. 2 - Thraben Foulbloods. 1 - Strange Augmentation. 1 - Undead Executioner. 1 - Zombie Outlander. 15 - Swamp. 10 - Island.

It IS Quite a lot, but it's because we need to make room for the cards that'll make the bulk of our strategy, not to mention there are cheaper, better alternatives to most of these cards (lands were removed because the mana base will be changed later). With these cards taken out, that leaves us with the following: 3 - Cemetery Recruitment. 1 - Ghastly Conscription. 1 - Sign in Blood. 1 - Graf Harvest. 1 - Rooftop Storm. 2 - Gavony Unhallowed. 1 - Jhessian Zombies. 1 - Vedalken Ghoul.

these are pretty linearly focused for an effective strategy. to fluff out the rest of the cards for the deck, I'd recommend:

+1 - Cemetery Recruitment. +3 - Sign in Blood. +4 - Mana Leak. +3 - Duress. +3 - Vedalken Ghoul. +3 - Jhessian Zombies. +1 - Rooftop Storm. +4 - Go for the Throat. +4 - Rotting Rats. +3 - Claim / Fame.

Defeat isn't going to hit much in a game of commander, I'd run Terminate and/or Dreadbore instead.

I don't know that Mind Rot will do much for this deck. If there is incidental discard tied to an effect that deals damage, then go for it, or in the case of Syphon Mind, has card draw attached.

I would second the 'not enough land' comment from Hades above. I don't think you want to go as high as 40-42 lands but 37-38 is closer to what you'll want/need for a mana curve with a higher end. More mana rocks as well; Coldsteel Heart, Sol Ring, etc. Opaline Unicorn should probably be Darksteel Ingot or Commander's Sphere.

Sibsig Muckdraggers should be cut. If you need to get creatures back from the graveyard, I'd use Phyrexian Reclamation. I wouldn't worry about forcing in zombies for Shepherd of Rot, you just need it to ding opponents for 1 to cast your commander.

All Is Dust could work for you with the emphasis on Devoid creatures.
