Dargo, the Shipwrecker

Legendary Creature — Giant Pirate

As an additional cost to cast this spell, you may sacrifice any number of artifacts and/or creatures. This spell costs less to cast for each permanent sacrificed this way and less to cast for each other artifact or creature you've sacrificed this turn.

Dargo, the Shipwrecker can't actually target other permanents, because its not target permanent. Still good combo though!

Additional costs are paid during the casting of a spell and no player has priority while a spell is being cast. Triggered abilities can trigger while you are casting a spell, but they wait to go on the stack until a player would receive priority and then they must resolve.

This means that if you are sacrificing the Mogg War Marshal as an additional cost to cast Dargo, the Shipwrecker you will not have the LTB token to sacrifice while casting him. If you use something else, such as Phyrexian Tower, to sacrifice Mogg War Marshal and are counting on the second part of the ability to reduce the cost then yes you will be able to do as you decribed.

The additional cost to playing Dargo, the Shipwrecker sorta perplexes me. Let's say I cast Mogg War Marshal, which enters alongside a 1/1 token. Later that turn, could I sacrifice the War Marshal, the 1/1 token from the etb trigger, and THEN the 1/1 token from the War Marshal's ltb trigger to reduce Dargo's cost to R?

Just because I love the meme of creating a deck that has next to zero creature offensive capability (Outside a few cards), I'd have to say Pramikon, Sky Rampart. I've always loved trying to build at least somewhat usable wall tribal.

When Pramikon came out i was so excited to build a wall deck that no longer needed a rule-0 chat to play.

Outside of memes though, i love Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator partnered with Dargo, the Shipwrecker since pirates are my favourite tribe (If the username didn't give it away), as well as being my favourite colour combo.

Loving this deck, I built my own with the Dargo, the Shipwrecker and Phyrexian Altar combo in mind and have been loving it so far. The white looks cool, and I do miss the new small white dorks in Jund. Teysa Karlov looks very spicy and it looks like she can help you run away with the game. I ended up putting more man-lands in my build, but I can support them a bit easier with only 3 colours.

Thanks for introducing me to this amazing concept, the deck looks mostly innocuous until a win can just pop up out of nowhere.

The trick is of course that sacrificing Dargo, the Shipwrecker to Thermopod will pay for its commander tax due to Dargo's artifacts or creatures sacrificed this turn clause, and the mana from Thermopod can pay for casting him again. But yeah, it needs the startup. Although Treasure tokens would work too, you don't need 3 creatures per se ;-)

I got Dargo, the Shipwrecker + Thermopod + Desecrated Tomb .

I also have a question: Building time ends 4/23/2021 @ 12:00pm PT. Wasn't that, like, 4 weeks ago?

Hey Poooootato, thank you for checking the deck out and the comment. Since I wrote the description I have seen more decks come out trying to use the backside of Extus. However, many of them try to leverage the sacrifice creatures line to lower the casting cost and I believe that is a trap due to the fact you have to sacrifice the creatures as you cast the spell; unlike something like Dargo, the Shipwrecker that counts creatures sacrificed this turn, so you are setting yourself up to be blown out when the spell is countered on the stack. Even if it is not countered you now have to get even more creatures into play to sacrifice to cast the spell again. It is just too much effort for what you get out of it. Building Extus, Oriq Overlord  Flip as I have in this deck is much less effort for much greater effect.

If you want to play it aristocrat, I agree with you that you want to use some of the very few cards in magic that return an instant or sorcery back to your hand and cheap spells to try to get extra value with short loops. I have been working on deck focusing on the front of Extus, Oriq Overlord  Flip by using Biblioplex Assistant , Living Lightning , Returned Pastcaller , and Anarchist with various effects to do these loops. However, it feels very fragile and when I make it feel less fragile, I just push it into a generic aristocrats style and I might as well just play a better aristocrats commander at that point. If I ever get it feeling better I will post it here.
