And I will always advocate for the inclusion of Swords to Plowshares and/or Path to Exile because creatures don't stay dead in this format. It probably is worth including something like Crush Contraband, Return to Dust or Revoke Existence because plenty of decks recycle artifacts and enchantments as well.

Rogue's Passage is more unblockability that is less likely to get removed.
Ohran Frostfang will make your lure creatures really punish your opponents. Killing their creature board while hopefully sneaking something by to draw cards should swing things in your favor.
Bow of Nylea also grants your creatures deathtouch on offense plus has a bunch of utility functions that can all come in handy at times.

Not sure what your budget is for the deck but I'll list some suggestions that aren't soul-crushingly expensive.
Griffin Canyon Could be hard to find unless you order online but seems like no griffin deck should be without one.
Cathars' Crusade super anthem
Mirror Entity Griffins have low base power/toughness and this would still get the tribal bonuses.
Pearl Medallion For what they do, griffins are on the expensive side. Urza's Incubator is probably more than you want to spend on this tribe. Wow, has this one spiked in price since last I looked... sorry I even looked it up.
Unbreakable Formation Protect that flying horde and maybe buff them too if opponents tap out.
Sephara, Sky's Blade may not be a griffin but is budget protection for your tribe.

I like the addition of Glint-Horn Buccaneer from you maybeboard as it acts as a discard outlet as well as giving added value to your madness and other discards.
Any flashback Increasing Ambition, retrace Throes of Chaos or dredge cards Shenanigans all work well with the host of discard outlets in the deck. Madness obviously works best but those others are good as well.

Quirion Ranger will let you get forests already played back into hand to chuck. Untapping a creature is gravy. Dryad of the Ilysian Grove will let you play out your heavy land count faster as well as allow the Ranger to bounce land as they will all count as forests. Both Undiscovered Paradise and Ghost Town can return themselves to hand. Nylea's Intervention puts the lands to hand plus can double as Hurricane if needed. Creeping Renaissance can name land and restock [twice!] all at once to help burn people out.

Some cards that have particularly good interaction with Niv:
Curiosity for additional card draw using his ping ability against players.
Riptide Laboratory to reuse some of those supporting wizards.
You could also use some more general removal spells:
Direct Current doesn't do enough to warrant inclusion. Despite its efficiency, you very rarely see Lightning Bolt or similar effects getting played in EDH. The size of the creatures that get played and joint pool of 120 starting life relegate these effects to other formats. Dragon Fodder doesn't really do much either but if its a flavor inclusion, then keep, maybe Niv needs minions to fetch him things or just wants snack food handy. Stealth Mission would probably be better served becoming something like Lazotep Plating. Capture Sphere might be better as Deep Freeze if opposing commanders having activated abilities that don't require tapping. I know I wouldn't care if Sphere hit my Tasigur, the Golden Fang
I have a deck using this same commander if you want more ideas.

Using the graveyard as a second hand is absolutely, flat-out my favorite part of MtG so I'm not really too keen on paring this back drastically. I agree that a few more cards in the vein of Return to Nature, a multi modal card that can attack multiple different problems so folks won't hesitate to include in their builds, may be needed. Most graveyard hate is tailored to do only that so people are wary of including it because if no one has graveyard recursion, its a dead draw.

Ashiok, Dream Render's hybrid mana symbols give the card blue/black color identity and thus makes it ineligible in an Orzhov deck.
Swords to Plowshares and Path to Exile are creature removal that should be strongly considered for any deck that can run them. The low, low CMC and instant speed combined with exiling the target remain unmatched. You can easily make space for Swords [if you're only going to run one, pick Swords first as the additional matters far less than the land granted] by cutting Fruit of Tizerus. Despite being able to recur it with escape, doing only 2 damage to one opponent in a multiplayer format is far too little return for your investment of mana and cards in graveyard.
Sol Ring is flat out the best card in the format so unless you have a house rule in the local meta that it is banned, you should be running it.
I don't know that you're running enough auras or equipment to get much mileage out of either Sram, Senior Edificer or Danitha Capashen, Paragon. If you want to go this route, you can consider finding space for: Darksteel Mutation as it is good turning opposing commanders into statues, Blackblade Reforged, Sword of the Animist for some ramp, Swiftfoot Boots for the haste and protection, Whispersilk Cloak for evasion and protection, Angelic Destiny because a flying 3 headed dog that is now also an angel is just awesome.
Other inspiration can be drawn from the listings at EDHREC but so far the handful of people submitting decks have gone very stax-y and that may not be your cup of tea.

I'd split half scry temples and half pain lands. Enough to mitigate the drawbacks of both [come into play tapped, kill you slowly] I'd want to keep some access to the scry effects as their card selection can be good at times but having only 5 should reduce the times that you may draw 2 or more scry lands in your opening hand and potentially get off to only a glacial start.

I'm going to say that you may be running too many of the 'Temple' land cycle. I did some test draws with my own sliver deck, treating my shocks as the temples, and with what I drew for land [taking the typical free mulligan but not going to 6 cards or less] the temples punted my turn 2 play a full quarter of the time [5 out of 20, sorry not spending too much time on this] and once that play was Gemhide Sliver so that really hurt the ramping. Not sure if your experience has been similar. I think swapping half of the temples out for maybe the pain lands or something that at least has a chance to not come into play tapped should help.
In a cEDH environment, you may want to consider Krosan Grip as the split second could help stop some combos from going off.

I think you may want to up the number of boardwipes in the deck. Even limiting how many spells your opponents are casting each turn, it can still be hard to stay up on cards vs 3 or more players with so many 1 for 1 counters/removal spells. While you have some card draw in the deck, it will come in more in a trickle and that may not be enough. Maybe Thassa's Intervention subbed in for one of the other counterspells may help and Heliod's Intervention used on a end step where you didn't have to counter anything to take out 3 or more problematic targets.

Some cards that I use in my Meren deck that I get a ton of mileage out of:
Birthing Pod - Not the cheapest but if you've only been playing for 1-2 months and you've already got Grave Pact, etc. it should be in reach. Great to tutor up/upgrade to the next creature of need while building up exp counters. Eldritch Evolution is a cheaper one shot of this.
Noxious Gearhulk - Removal and lifegain on a decent beater.
Doom Whisperer - Cheap flyer that can fill your graveyard with creatures to recur.
February 7, 2020 10:03 p.m.
Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma could be really useful for the mana reduction and granting trample on attack.
As for an alternate commander... Golos, Tireless Pilgrim will ramp you and potentially give you free hits on high CMC spells. There may be a pair of partnered commanders without white in their color identity that may serve as well but of the remaing 4/5 color choices, most everything else requires adding white to the deck.

In addition to the Swordtooth: Azusa, Lost but Seeking, Exploration, Burgeoning, The Gitrog Monster, Oracle of Mul Daya and the new Dryad of the Ilysian Grove all can let you play extra lands that you may have in hand. Unfortunately all are on the more expensive side.
[Holy crap! I hadn't checked the prices on most of these in awhile and man have some of them spiked...!]
