Obosh, the Preypiercer

Legendary Creature — Hellion Horror

Companion — Your starting deck must contain only cards with odd converted mana costs and land cards. (You may reveal this card from outside the game before you start and declare it as your companion. If you do, your deck must follow the companion's restrictions. You may pay to put this companion from your sideboard to your hand at any time you could cast a sorcery. This action can't be interacted with or countered. You may only choose one companion for your deck before the start of each round.)

If a source you control with an odd converted mana cost would deal damage to a permanent or player, it deals double that damage to that permanent or player instead.

Update!

With Dungeons & Dragons: Baldur's Gate on the horizon, I found a card that looks sneakily fun to be placed into the deck: Descent into Avernus! I am hopeful this card has a few functions:

  1. The benefits it brings to our opponents has some political benefits
  2. The treasures help with our own mana ramp
  3. It brings the pain with some amplify combo pieces on the board such as Obosh, the Preypiercer or Furnace of Rath.

This will replace Pain Magnification for testing.

I just want to point out that you could do a Rakdos commander deck and have both your pain/punishment as well as lifegain matters in the same deck.

As you already stated, Mogis would have Tobran in his 99. Why not Vito and other lifegain shenanigans?

Cards like Torbran, Thane of Red Fell or Brash Taunter using its fight ability while Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose activated or anything that does big damage equipped with stuff like Basilisk Collar, Batterskull, Shadowspear, Whip of Erebos, and Mask of Griselbrand.

You keep tutors, wheels and burn. You keep synergy with Unspeakable Symbol, Crypt Rats, Aetherflux Reservoir and even Blood Tribute.

I like the sound of a Tobran/Vito deck with say Obosh, the Preypiercer as your commander? Or keep Mogis for his inevitability.

Hi, I mean this in the most constructive way:

i think that I know of some lands that may help you ramp in case you want to:

These can serve as ramp in a pinch (except for sandstone, which dies in 2 usages).

Do you really need Crucible of Fire? It seems that dragons are already powerful on their own and that these slots could be used for something else.

There is also a land that I think may help you more, which is Ghitu Encampment. The first strike 2/1 can be more versatile. The utility lands you chose seem to be more dedicated to offense, but that's not always going to be the case.

Tears of Valakut can also only target flying threats... wouldnt it be better to have something that kills a wider range of creatures? Like Dead / Gone, maybe? Or Fire Prophecy, which may allow you to "cycle" an unwanted card.

And in case you are in a pinch, maybe use a card like Pyroclasm or Sweltering Suns (and I just noticed it may help activate the Dragon Eggs).

Idk about the price, but the "spell lands" also seem a bit helpful: Spikefield Hazard  Flip, Valakut Awakening  Flip.

Sarkhan, Fireblood, Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker and Sarkhan, Dragonsoul also seem interesting... Sarkhan's Triumph too.

There are too many Dragon-related cards to choose from @[email protected]

also, maybe try cutting the deck down to 60, it'll make it more consistent (22 lands for 70 cards isn't enough)...

If you could manage to use only odd-cost cards, could even use Obosh, the Preypiercer as a companion

Unlife on Rare commander build?

My decks tend to lean more toward the rare builds then the rare commanders. In terms of standouts, I've got a Gahiji, Honored One that is a Primal Surge superfriends deck, and my Saskia the Unyielding is ooze tribal. With the addition of companion and parter to commander, I really like building within restrictions, so my Kraum, Ludevic's Opus/Tymna the Weaver/Obosh, the Preypiercer (all odd wheel/combo) stands out as a rarer commander build

If I had to take a guess, I'd say my rarest commander is mutant tribal deck helmed by Louvaq, The Abberant, which my playgroup is kind enough to let me run.

owenger, yes, you're indeed missing something, and that's on me. I'm writing the description yet, so a few things are missing.

Umori, the Collector is the companion for game one. If look closely, the sideboard, aside from the Ooze, contains nothing but odd costed cards and those are the ones you sideboard in so as to make Obosh, the Preypiercer valid as companions. I also made sure to include less than 12, the number of sideboard cards, even costed cards in order to not need to sideboard in every single card. This means I can take out all even vampires without being forced to include Vampires' Vengeance if not needed.

TypicalTimmy on Would non-Human Planeswalkers mutate on …

Omniscience_is_life, I thought the idea with Ikoria was something that had to do with those crystals, causing rapid and enormous leaps in evolution, causing "mutations" in non-Human creatures? So while you are correct, that it is the evolutionary process, it's equally true that it doesn't take generations to happen - it occurs instantaneously, relatively speaking.

At least that was my understanding of it all. We see it in the Ikoria trailer when Obosh, the Preypiercer mutates before Vivian.
