Obosh, the Preypiercer

Obosh, the Preypiercer

Legendary Creature — Hellion Horror

Companion — Your starting deck must contain only cards with odd converted mana costs and land cards. (You may reveal this card from outside the game before you start and declare it as your companion. If you do, your deck must follow the companion's restrictions. You may pay to put this companion from your sideboard to your hand at any time you could cast a sorcery. This action can't be interacted with or countered. You may only choose one companion for your deck before the start of each round.)

If a source you control with an odd converted mana cost would deal damage to a permanent or player, it deals double that damage to that permanent or player instead.

Obosh, the Preypiercer Discussion

No, I'm not using it for Vito, it's more for Archfiend's Vessel and demon, Garrison Cat and human, and Serrated Scorpion s. With using Lurrus of the Dream-Den bringing them back. I decided to add Obosh, the Preypiercer for spice.

The deck's whole concept is the interaction of Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose .

I would suggest removing the white from the deck as your splash cards don't seem to relevant to what you are doing. As amerika00 mentioned, your Obosh, the Preypiercer will not provide extra damage to your drain effects as they are life loss effects and not considered damage.

If you want a token build option then I would add the new Hunt for Specimens card to the main board to give you tokens that give you extra life when the die that will help Vito drain for more. With the addition of the Hunt spell you can add Pest Summoning to you sideboard to give you another token spell. This would unfortunately mean you would need to remove Obosh, the Preypiercer from your companion slot.

You may just want to add in more copies of Bastion of Remembrance to increase your passive drain on creature death. With this in mind you may want to include Woe Strider as a self recurring threat that gives you a sac outlet to allow you to kill your own creatures for death triggers at any time and help make sure you are getting value from Lurrus of the Dream-Den letting you loop creatures easier each turn.

Hope these quick suggestions help.

musej on Rules about doubling damage, specifically …

I have a question about the mechanic of double damage. Does this rule apply during a first-strike attack phase essentially making it double-strike, or does it occur during regular combat?

For some reference, I have Obosh, the Preypiercer on the battlefield. I attack with Satyr Hoplite , and he is blocked by Arctic Foxes . Would Satyr Hoplite deal damage, essentially as first-strike, before Arctic Foxes , or do they both deal damage simultaneously to one another?

I am pretty sure it is simultaneous, but just want some clarification. The rule that has been applied for trample with Obosh, the Preypiercer seems to confuse things more than help. The rule being it applies damage twice rather than just doubling the damage. The way the rule had been applied makes me think Obosh, the Preypiercer is intended as double-strike rather than simply double damage.

I have an offspring's revenge deck on my own in Arena but I am glad to help you out since I love brewing this card.

You can go in two ways - Go Odds or Evens. Why did I say that? because you can abuse these companions to build around offspring's revenge - Obosh, the Preypiercer or Gyruda, Doom of Depths without them being your companion.

Also, you will need to have enablers in this deck. while we agree self mill is good in this deck, I like to control which cards do I actually dump early game for my payoffs from offspring's revenge later on. So I recommend cards like Cathartic Reunion , Thrill of Possibility and Fissure Wizard .

For payoffs if I go odds - you can go for Oathsworn Knight , Skyclave Apparition , obosh, Ox of Agonas (very good card draw and cheap escape cost), Drana, the Last Bloodchief and Terror of Mount Velus

If I go evens (and i recommend this due to more options, combos and your 1/1 tokens become bigger) - Immersturm Predator , Rankle, Master of Pranks (very very good in this deck), Harmonious Archon , gyruda (sell mill but it picks up more payoffs), Moraug, Fury of Akoum (if you combine it with drana, you can have multiple chain combat triggers with offspring's revenges)

...or if you can combine both. Its up to you how you can improve this deck. Hope it helps.

3> Ahhh I've been wanting to play with Obosh, the Preypiercer and Angrath's Marauders - glad you found a spot for them. While you're at it, you could also consider other "damage doublers" such as Wound Reflection and Fiendish Duo. I've thought about a Vial-Smasher deck with a White partner just to add Gisela, Blade of Goldnight.

3> I see you enjoy big monsters and X-spells here. Oh to be young again... but seriously, this seems like a good deck to play them in as you would be rewarded. Instants are your friend, as you can Smash Vials on everyone's turn! No Comet Storm?

3> I would be worried about Vial-Smasher getting nuked from orbit as soon as your turn passes and it's no longer indestructible. You'll find Heroic Intervention and Slippery Bogbonder will help with targeted Exile removal. You already have Destroy and Sacrifice covered I see.

3> I see some cost-reduced and commander-free spells in there, but you have a limited suite. While doing research for my thoughts on Vial-Smasher, I found the following might be helpful - list is just copy/paste, so it will include some White and/or Blue cards:
