Pooping Outside the Litterbox (Marisi Goad)(C)

Commander / EDH Goad Myriad RGW (Naya)

Creature (96)

Im getting targeted by my playgroups early, often, and frequently. If you read through the decks I have posted it’s easy to see why. I play fairly high power decks that draw aggro even after the game is over and the next one has begun. I decided the best way to combat this unique issue is to point the very same creatures that attack me game after game at different players! Marisi, Breaker of the Coil came up into my feed as I was looking for a Naya commander. I think this commander can be incredibly powerful and hope that once you’ve tried him you will feel the same.

  1. The Wincon

Truth is, I’m not trying to do the same played out wincons with Craterhoof Behemoth or Felidar Sovereign. I’m hoping (since I’ve only play tested online; not against other players) the wincon is goading everyone’s creatures into killing each other. When the last opponent is left to attack, I believe my high creature content will be enough to clean house. Admittedly, I wanted to include treasure generators like Dockside Extortionist, Smothering Tithe, and the like. I decided instead I would lean more into combat damage and ensuring Marisi gets triggers off unblocked creatures as he was designed. However, I did include the cookie cutter Triumph of the Hordes. Having an instant speed wincon with a commander that won’t allow a counterspell during combat seemed like a good call. It will surely help against the final opponent that may have tons of health or other road blocks. Insurrection is also a wincon card. If all else fails and Marisi isn’t around late game I wanted something interesting in my arsenal. It’s a high cost that I believe will do wonders against a tribal eldrazi, Dino, vampire, sliver or any creature centered deck. It’s a shot in the dark if it gets countered but I would love to see the table’s reaction if it resolves .

  1. Let the Goading Commence!

As I looked through EDHREC for some inspiration I included a ton of cards that goaded creatures. It makes sense! If Marisi is killed, you will want something to continue goading your opponent. However, I cut a large amount of them. I realized like my other spiteful commander Horobi, Death's Wail I would need to strategically cast Marisi when it was obvious I would be able to deal combat damage to the right opponents. The big idea of this deck is to NOT appear like the biggest threat on the table. Nevertheless, the following cards will help you keep your opponents sending their creatures elsewhere: Baeloth Barrityl, Entertainer, Bothersome Quasit, Curse of Opulence, Grenzo, Havoc Raiser, Komainu Battle Armor, Take the Bait, and Vengeful Ancestor.

  1. Dealing the Damage Champion of Lambholt is an absolute powerhouse in this deck. You will be casting a lot of creatures which only makes other creatures more and more unblockable. Soltari Foot Soldier is also amazing in this deck. Most people don’t run shadow so you will have a wide open battlefield to trigger Marisi for one mana. Myriad is another mechanic that does amazing things with this commander. Battle Angels of Tyr, Elturel Survivors, Chittering Dispatcher and Hammers of Moradin do a great job of getting damage through and spreading it around.

  2. Final Thoughts I included a fair amount of ramp and card draw to keep things moving. I play tested this deck a lot and I feel it’s a contender at most tables. My only fear lies with Marisi getting removed repeatedly. As I said, casting your commander strategically should keep your opponents attacking elsewhere. There’s a lot of ways you can build him; tribal cat, full on goad, life gain. It’s up to you to decide what way you want to build him! Please upvote and comment suggestions!
