Clever Concealment

Instant

Convoke (Your creatures can help cast this spell. Each creature you tap while casting this spell pays for or one mana of that creature's color.)

Any number of target nonland permanents you control phase out. (Treat them and anything attached to them as thought they don't exist until your next turn.)

What I like about Angelic Sell-Sword is that it makes it easier to cast Clever Concealment. With enough vigilance, maybe Wand of the Worldsoul should be considered.

Wojek Investigator is pretty good. She has decent stats, good keywords, and in the game I played her, she made a lot of clue tokens. Having innate vigilance is something I look for in angels, mainly to help cast Clever Concealment or convoking with Wand of the Worldsoul if you're running that.

Aurelia's Vindicator is powerful, but expensive. I like her. I've tried her. I'm not sure what I want to swap out for her though. Early game, she fits your curve and late game, she provides flexible removal. Ward 2 helps her stick around.

I haven't tried Merchant of Truth, and I don't plan to. Exalted doesn't fit the deck's strategy.

An angel ox has been spoiled for Outlaws of Thunder Junction. It's named is Holy Cow. 2/2 for 3 with flash and flying that gains 2 life and scrys 1. Funny, but not too exciting.

I have a few suggestions for ya, but not a bad start.

Reconnaissance is worth its' weight in gold here. If you're unfamiliar with the card I suggest looking it up, it's pretty busted if you know what you're doing. Long story short is attack with EVERYONE safely, deal combat damage in most situations, and untap each creature at the most opportune time (including after combat damage is dealt... both 1st strike and normal) so everyone is untapped by the end of combat.

Purphoros, God of the Forge makes it so every vamp you cast domes each opponent for 4. It also lets you run Scapegoat as a finisher instead of just as 1 mana answer to wraths (trust me when I say bouncing all your stuff back to hand is 100% worth it in response to wraths so you actually have a grip full of cards to redeploy and get eminence triggers again).

On the subject of protection, this is probably the most important support type for aggro decks and there's zero of them in the deck. Don't get caught with your pants down or that is a miserable game where you end up with no hand topdecking cards until you lose. Teferi's Protection, Clever Concealment, Boros Charm, Flawless Maneuver, and I also lump Plumb the Forbidden in this section (same logic as Scapegoat). Seriously, run them ALL... unless your meta has like 0 removal you won't regret it.

Let me know if you're picking up what I'm putting down, I have more suggestions and/or help with cuts if you want it. Also, feel free to check out my list for inspiration. Upvotes on any of my decks are appreciated. Edgar's Dega Vampires

It looks like you might have a 2nd copy of Isshin in your 99, & you're at 101 cards. Other than that, I'd say you're definitely on the right track with your documented edits so far.

If you're looking for any feedback, I'd generally suggest to trim your 4cmc slot a bit more, & maybe bumping up to 35-36 lands.

  • I'd recommend checking out Soul Partition as a swap for Utter End. The times I've played Partition, opponents rarely recast whatever it exiled.

  • I think you can swap one of your board wipes for either Grasp of Fate or another instant speed protection effect like Unbreakable Formation or Clever Concealment. Either way, Isshin thrives off keeping his board ad intact as possible.

Best of luck with the deck. I hope you have a blast with it once all your pieces come in.

Nice! Isshin is a lot of fun, and can quickly become arch-enemy, as I'm sure you've probably experienced. I think if you're going to move on from the Samurai, I'd suggest also trimming back on the equipment subtheme, as they can be pretty mana-intensive without additional equipment support.

I've personally had more experience with playing a more tokens go-wide take on Isshin, which I think can be pretty fun and dynamic. A few general suggestions if you do cut back on Samurai & Equipment, and decide to focus more on going wide:

Just some quick ideas for how you could make use of those Samurai and Equipment slots if you decide to change them up. Hopefully these suggestions were helpful

Yeah, fortunately it's not so impactful as to draw that boardwipe personally but mass removal is always an issue for these decks (especially non-destroy wraths).

On that note, if you have or can afford Clever Concealment it's amazing here and arguably better than Teferi's Protection. A budget option is Scapegoat because sac'ing a token to at least bounce your actual creatures back to your hand is preferable to just eating a boardwipe (bonus points for a single being easy to inconspicuously hold up).

Grends27 - Thanks for your thoughts on my deck so I wanted to repay the favor! Disclaimer, looking at your decklist, I am assuming more of a budget build so I will take that into account.

So first off, I like the high creature count of the deck. Similar to my deck, I think I counted 8 creatures that are not dinos that will not hit with Gishath. Most of the non-dino creatures in my deck are there for utility/ramp purposes and seems like yours are filling similar roles. Personally, I am a little underwhelmed by Ilysian Caryatid, Llanowar Elves, and Ixalli's Lorekeeper and try to avoid anything with toughless less than 3 due to Marauding Raptor. I would encourage you to try out Kinjalli's Caller, Shaman of Forgotten Ways, and Intrepid Paleontologist as they provide a similar role but usually have something more than just adding mana/acceleration to the deck. You really need to consider Forerunner of the Empire. The tutor effect is great by itself but the ability to trigger your Enrage dinos is very powerful. Plus with the abundancy of 1/1 tokens in EDH, this is a board wipe for any creatures weaker than say 2 toughness. He is another great utility creature for dinosaur decks!

I like the dinos you included. I know I said I would suggest budget but Trapjaw Tyrant and Silverclad Ferocidons do work. Especially when you have the ability to trigger their Enrage ability multiple times per turn!

Your land count is very similar to mine, I did not count up all the ways you have to ramp up but see a lot of ways to do that via creatures, artifacts, sorceries, instants, etc. I was going to try adding Poetic Ingenuity into my deck as a way to add some additional treasure tokens in the early turns via swinging with smaller dinos to generate mana to cast Gishath. Can not suggest it 100% without trying it but I love the idea of it!

On the enchantment/artifact side, the only thing I would really suggest is adding Strionic Resonator. Similar to me, you are running enough triggered effects that this card will win you games. A good drop for it would be Descendants' Path. I ran that for a while and was just not impressed with the results. Maybe Aggravated Assault if you would like to swing multiple times...combos well with the Poetic Ingenuity!

FOr the Instants/Sorceries, my only suggestion is that with how common boardwipes and interactions are in EDH, I would suggest more single/mass protection. Flawless Maneuver is not to expensive and can be cast for free if Gishath is out. Clever Concealment is nice for those pesky mass exile spells as you can just phase out your creatures and if your deck is firing on all cylinders and you have a board presence, you can usually cast it for free as well!

Otherwise, looks pretty solid! You can tell you have a plan...cast Gishath quick...swing hard...raid dinos...repeat.

Tsukimi Thanks for posting! I went ahead and replaced Denry Kiln with Seedborn. He was on my radar and I'd missed that Denry only gives counters to non-tokens so that was an easy swap.

I'm on the fence with the halfling. I had it in here and it's great when things pan out and The Dr. or Peri could be cast and taken advantage of early but when I built up slower I didn't reliably see legendaries early and it was in play but unusable.

I'm a fan of Inspiring Call and board protection in general. I have Teferi's Protection, Clever Concealment, and Heroic Intervention in the list now. This thing is still in crafting mode so it's impossible to get a feel for if that's enough. I'll add yours to the maybeboard for now.

As far as the payoffs for the +1+1 counters thing goes, I'm hoping that going wide with counters and the Dr.'s untap is enough payoff for that subtheme. I find redundancy with good enablers provide more consistency and when I'm stretched between themes I have to load up on enablers to be consistent across all those themes... at the cost of cutting payoffs sadly.
