Fight to the Death

Instant

Destroy all blocking creatures and all blocked creatures.

TypicalTimmy on Personal Play moments you are …

It was down to the three of us. I was playing Iroas, God of Victory. There was an Edgar Markov and something else, I don't recall.

I told the player who wasn't running Markov that if he full swings into Markov, Markov has two options: Take it and die, or block.

If he blocks, I swing and finish the job. Markov loses and I'm left wide open, so you win the game.

He agrees and swings full.

Markov blocks.

Optimator on Giant's Deck

So other than the Giants themselves, the last two areas to look at are removal and utility. Depending on how much Brion tech you want to include, you are probably going to have to skimp on one of these two areas.

Removal is tricky in EDH. You don't want too little or too much. You're running White, so you can destroy anything you want--which is nice.

I would recommend two or three board wipes minimum and at least and five or six cards that can take care of artifacts and enchantments. Creature removal is great for aggro decks but the Threaten cards can take care of that for the most part.

You're running Blasphemous Act, which is one of the best wraths. I'd still recommend one or two more board wipes though. I like Mizzium Mortars a lot but it doesn't quite count.

I have Sublime Exhalation - Planar Outburst - Phyrexian Rebirth - Cleansing Nova - Planar Cleansing - Fumigate - Divine Reckoning - Rout

If you can find a Wrath of God or Day of Judgment, the one-mana difference is actually huge. Definitely add Cleansing Nova in my opinion. Sublime Exhalation is probably the next-best one.

Hallowed Burial and Descend upon the Sinful are neat due to not sending things to the graveyard and getting through Indestructible. I think I have some of the latter.

One tactic you can do is sandbag your big creatures and wait for your opponents to commit to the board, then wrath and start playing your giants. If you like the sound of that, run five wraths or something like that. It's only a few more mana to kill EVERY creature.

I know you have some Wear / Tears. I'd add one for sure.

I have a bunch of Crush Contrabands, which are great. I'd highly recommend it.

Things like Oblivion Ring and Banishing Light are fantastic on a budget. I think I have both.

Generous Gift is stellar. I don't have any but it's getting reprinted soon and may be cheap.

I have a Pyrohemia on hand. Might be interesting with all your huge giants. Maybe not though.

I have a Fight to the Death. Might be interesting. Same with my Response / Resurgence.

Titan's Revenge is giant-tribal-y. From Morningtide, and should be somewhat reliable for winning the Clash. More gimmicky than good though.

Swords to Plowshares and Path to Exile are the gold standards for creature removal though. No reason to not run them if you have them. Regrettable, I have none for trade. Path just got reprinted though for what it's worth. I have a boatload of all the budget replacements for them, like Oust, Condemn, Oblation, etc.

Something like Comet Storm might be an interesting include. It can function as removal or win the game outright out of nowhere. I have none on hand but it keeps getting reprinted.

There are tons and tons of removal cards out there.

I would cut Crush Underfoot unless you're married to the flavor. It's pretty bad. Any removal not already mentioned here I would cut. It's all pretty weak and you're gonna need the slots.

DrunkManSquakin666 - hey there, thanks for the suggestions. Mistveil Plains is currently in the deck, and Tithe has been on the radar (I'll add it to the WIP flex slots section) but is not currently in the deck as I needed the slots for other things and so far Weathered Wayfarer is doing a good job at that. I do like Tithe though, the ability to Sunforge for it could be relevant.

Hide / Seek is also currently here, good card. I prefer it over Wear / Tear. Fight to the Death is new to me, thanks.

Curious to hear what you envision the use-case for Pull from Eternity being?

Some cards you might wanna consider for the Sunforger package:

Fight to the Death, Pull from Eternity, and Hide / Seek.

They're all pretty funny.

Something else to consider is Tithe and Mistveil Plains. Allows you to recycle instants you've already used up. =3

I'm in the process of making a Marisi deck right now; I think I'm doing it a little differently - mostly trying to control combat, but I think there are a couple ideas that could interest you. Nahiri's Machinations, Duelist's Heritage (also cool that you can use it when your opponents are goaded into attacking each other), Invasion Plans makes it so your creatures can get through in a pinch, or let's you kill key creatures your opponents have. Bedlam has obvious synergy, Crescendo of War makes your opponents hurt each other more as well as your creatures, and then No Quarter gives you even more power with your big creatures. (Fight to the Death and Master Warcraft seem really fun, but I dunno if they'll make the cut... I want them to, though. haha.)

I like your deck, I got some good ideas from it, so thanks!

ZendikariWol on Niv's 59 Dualcolored Hits

Bring to Light may be pretty good, Fight to the Death , when revealed, serves to say "wanna make a big attack? ban plan." Flower / Flourish or Safewright Quest is good two-color mana fixing. Putrefy and Mortify are both pretty strong. Thrash / Threat is pretty all right creature removal if Niv is out. I am partial to Archon of Valor's Reach - I just like the card. Armadillo Cloak is def all right if Nivvy's your main wincon. Artifact Mutation and Aura Mutation are awesome, as is Hull Breach . I know one of my friends has a Kresh the Bloodbraided deck that would be utterly demolished by a Backlash . Bedevil is absurdly versatile removal. Blightning has a special place in my heart for taking any deck that doesn't know how to draw cards directly out of the game. Mostly a 60 cards, 20 life thing tho. Boros Charm can fizzle a removal spell, or it can make Niv into a really big meat stick. Burning-Tree Shaman and Cindervines are absolute murder for spellslinger decks. Casualties of War might help with those planeswalkers you seem to want to make disappear. Cauldron Haze is an... unconventional way to eat a removal spell. Clan Defiance is pretty all right, though it is an X spell that doesn't just kill a player directly. Countersquall is a good not- Negate , as is Dovin's Veto . Curse of Chains is a cool removal spell. Deathsprout is removal and ramp. A bit costly but Murder and Rampant Growth combined (minus one mana) is worth considering for casuals like me. Debtors' Knell can be a nice finisher.

Defiler of Souls is one of my favorite cards of all time. I just love playing colors and I like turning downsides into upsides.

Despark and Deputy of Detention (not to mention the D-Sphere itself) is pretty good removal. Destructive Revelry is pretty good removal as well. Dimir Doppelganger would fuck a reanimator deck six ways from Sunday. Divinity of Pride is a big, lifelinking threat. Djinn Illuminatus is sneakily very strong. Imagine duplicating all your removal spells as many times as you bother to pay for them. Domri's Ambush is even more good removal (this time creature removal). Dragonlair Spider is just quite good at making tokens. Dreadbore kills two relevant types. Dromoka's Command is sweet removal but not many of its other options are relevant. Dueling Grounds is Mirri, Weatherlight Duelist (or Mirri is Dueling grounds- whatever). Both are awesome pillow fort. Escape to the Wilds draws cards. The color-matters auras from Eventide and Shadowmoor are strong with Niv and also on-theme.

Fossil Find alluded to graveyard order... in a 2008 set... huh.

Identity Crisis just discards your opponent's... everything. Ionize is a pretty all right counterspell. Justice Strike , another pet card of mine, is just very a flavorful removal spell. Mindleech Mass is crazy cool. Mirari's Wake is a really conventionally strong card. Mistmeadow Witch is more expensive and more timely Soulherder (fizzles removal!). Mnemonic Betrayal is just a gem. Mystic Snake and Frilled Mystic are both counterspells. Necrogenesis makes tokens and screws up reanimation. Palliation Accord is pretty freaking pillow forty. Pillory of the Sleepless , Anguished Unmaking , and Vindicate are more solid Orzhov removal. Plasm Capture isn't great, I don't think, but it feels like a card that has some wild stories attached to it, don'tcha think? Rakdos's Return seems like another really fun spell. I want to make a RB casual Rack deck. Silumgar's Command is a good card. Thought Erasure is a perfectly suitable discard spell. Trygon Predator is good. Wheel of Sun and Moon ensures that every card in your deck is just a few Niv triggers away.

And BAM, I've looked through every two-color card in Magic. There we go. That's what stood out to me, but I find that many players are more competitive than I am and therefore have different definitions of what a good card is. Feel free to take some or none of my advice. All would likely prove disastrous for your deck- a lot of the cards I suggested were removal.

Aclaus on Just attack

  1. Nyxborn Shieldmate for Boros Reckoner both better creatures and reckoner works amazing with lightmines if u decide to add it
  2. Palace Guard for Archetype of Aggression

Artifacts

  1. Darksteel Plate for Whispersilk Cloak since your guys are invincible anyways. this also deters them from being targeted.. boardwipes will still work though.
  2. Stoneforge Masterwork for Tenza, Godo's Maul if up u this on ur commander hes a 10/7 menance with trample, seems like a better piece
  3. Armory of Iroas - Sunforger costs a few more mana but u have alot of tricks u can pull out of it for free late game
  4. Staff of Nin for Mind's Eye
  5. Avacyn's Collar for Spear of Heliod upgrades all ur doods and makes people scared to attack you
  6. Manalith for Commander's Sphere an upgrade

SORCERIES

  1. Act of Treason for Faithless Looting card draw with flashback seems always good
  2. Mass Mutiny - Mob Rule seems like an upgrade

INSTANTS

  1. Miraculous Recovery - Settle the Wreckage amazing board wipe, can really put you ahead. if not interested in a board wipe id suggest maybe a single target removal like Chaos Warp . i feel like you need ways to deal with high pressure threats
  2. Pay No Heed - Deflecting Palm
  3. Righteousness for Fight to the Death i know these two cards arent related, but how hilarious would it be to cast this when someone else is combating another player, basically can wipe two players boards if timed proper. if u would prefer to keep a combat trick here i would suggest maybe Gods Willing or something that does not require the creature to be blocking
  4. Smite - Ride Down
  5. Warleader's Helix - Savage Beating or Ajani Vengeant i feel helix doesnt provide enough value, for removal it is very weak , if u want good removal to replace this instead of a threats i listed, i would consider Oblivion Ring type cards
  6. Martial Glory - Boros Charm charm is must include, so much value! protect from boardwipes including land destruction! removal or maybe boost ur commander after blocks with a double strike if some1 is already been hit once and hello 21 commander dmg

Daedalus19876 on Judgment Day: Avacyn the Purifier EDH [REDUX]

hkhssweiss: Huh, I've always found Mask of Memory to be one of the strongest card advantage engines in the deck in testing. Gilded Lotus is a bit slow, I'll acknowledge, but remember that it's essentially 2 mana overall (it comes in untapped and immediately can be tapped to recover a certain amount of the mana investment). And Fight to the Death probably is one of the weaker links here, but I really love the idea of flashing in Archangel Avacyn  Flip followed by Fight to the Death as a surprise (or using it to screw over the Voltron player when they're chump-blocked). And honestly, I'd rather run Grand Abolisher than Tithe Taker here, we'll see :)

DrkNinja: Would you prefer Blind Obedience , Kismet , or Loxodon Gatekeeper here, if I were to run one?

RecklessN7: Bounty Agent was one of my most recent cuts actually! I wanted to run it as commander-hate and as a way to flip Avacyn, but it kinda got overshadowed by other things. And as I was cutting most of my self-sacrificing creatures, I ended up cutting Gift of Immortality (it no longer works with most of my options). I really like the idea of this version of the deck so far though!!

Darkshadow327: Your advice has been implemented!
