The General of this build has changed twice since this deck's initial construction. At first, this deck was sculpted to be a legendary human tribal build helmed by Morophon, the Boundless. Then, leadership of the tribe was put into the hands of Esika, God of the Tree   and The Prismatic Bridge   during an installment of the UP & UP Series, which can be seen below. Now, in yet another appearance on the UP & UP Series, Jodah, the Unifier has been chosen as the Commander to this legendary human deck, and is a much more powerful fit than his two predecessors.

Morophon, the Boundless can be the General/Commander of numerous EDH/Commander tribal decks. At the time of this page's construction, Morophon, the Boundless is listed as the General/Commander for over three dozen different tribal decks through EDHREC.com. For this particular build, we are constructing a legendary human tribal deck with Sunday PHONday as our leader.

Before we start including human creature spells, the following 12 cards have been included in order to help synergize the deck and strengthen the "tribal matters" concept. We want the mana costs of our human creature spells to be reduced. We want to draw cards from our humans. We want to buff our humans' power and toughness. We want to get our humans onto the battlefield in a variety of ways. We want to win the game with our humans. The following cards are meant to enhance our gameplay by taking advantage of "tribal matters" abilities. Here is an MTG Burgeoning YouTube video discussing the first dozen spells added to this Morophon, the Boundless deck:

The First 12 Cards Show

The MTG Burgeoning community will shape the rest of this deck. Let's continue with human creature spells. There are over 2,500 human creature spells in Magic: the Gathering's history. Remember the description for Urza's Incubator? Remember the hint indicating how we will be able to cast any human creature spell in our deck as long as Morophon, the Boundless and Urza's Incubator were under our control? Go ahead. Go take a look. I'll wait right here. Okay? Got it? Very good! Let's employ Mark Rosewater's concept of "restriction breeds creativity" with respect to this selection process. I believe that engaging in restrictions will result in a more refined and focused list. As such, all selections of human creature spells must abide by the following parameters:

  1. No human creature spell can have more than one of the same mana symbol in its mana cost. Any human creature spell with a mana cost of , , , , or more is not eligible for inclusion.

  2. No human creature spell can have more than in its mana cost. Any human creature spell with a mana cost of or higher is not eligible for inclusion.

  3. No human creature spell can be a common.

Morophon, the Boundless reduces the mana costs of our human creature spells by . Urza's Incubator reduces the mana costs of our human creature spells by and Herald's Horn reduces their costs by . Let's optimize our ability to cast these human creature spells for as little mana as possible. These are fine parameters through which to build a list of human creature spells.

With these guidelines in place, which human creature spells would you include in this Morophon, the Boundless EDH/Commander deck and why? Leave suggestions here or in the comments section of MTG Burgeoning's 198th episode on YouTube (the video directly above).

Thank you in advance!

So where do we go from here? What if we restrict this list even further, by discarding all non-legendary human creature cards? If we choose this path, our list of legendary human creatures looks like this:

The number of human creature cards drops significantly, from an overwhelming 100 to a manageable 33, as demonstrated by the following MTG Burgeoning YouTube video:

By selecting a human legend focus for this deck, there are additional creature cards that should be included. They meet the aforementioned criteria for inclusion and have valuable and powerful synergies with a legend-themed deck:

Legend-Themed Creature Cards Show

By focusing on human legends, some previously listed legendary human creature cards may no longer be viable based upon a lack of effectiveness and/or efficiency with our preferred theme:

Morophon's Human Legends Show

The MTG Burgeoning community will continue to shape this deck. The next subset of cards should focus on humans- and/or legendaries-matter cards. Leave suggestions for up to 10 cards here or in the comments section of Episode #213 on MTG Burgeoning's YouTube channel.

Thank you in advance!

Additional Revisions Show

After these revisions, four additional slots for removal, ramp and/or card advantage spells have been created. Now, the MTG Burgeoning community will complete our list of spells. This last subset of cards should focus on ramp, removal and card advantage spells. WHEN POSSIBLE, we should continue our "legendaries matter" theme and include legendary cards that fit any of the the aforementioned qualifiers (ramp, removal, card advantage). Leave suggestions for up to 14 cards here or in the comments section of the MTG Burgeoning's YouTube video above (Episode #234).

Thank you in advance!
