Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch Discussion

Also the deck can kill turn 4 if uninteracted with, which is not hard to believe with Karn tron since it doesn't creature out like eldrazi tron. I'll give an example. We'll say the rakdos goes first.

Turn 1: Rakdos Cackler unleash.
Turn 2: Spike Jester, hit for 5.
Turn 3: Ordeal of Purphoros on cackler and Coordinated Assault on jester and cackler hit for 8 making 13 damage.
Turn 4: Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch unleash swing for 11 sacraficing ordeal adding another 3 making 27 damage by turn 4.

Exava is unecessary by this point as 7 is enough to do the job but ultimately that will do it. If you are on the play that means tron has to either assemble tron by turn 3 or its too slow to react. Which is not entirely unheard of for tron.

I recommend choosing whether you want to commit to hellbent, demon tribal, life loss, or Aetherflux Reservoir. If you dip your toe into multiple strategies that focus on different things you'll excel in none of them. Currently your discard cards are going to screw up your gameplan more than enable synergies.

If you want to be able to abuse Rakdos's ability, I would recommend adding much more direct damage (repeatable preferably) or life draim effects. Rakdos's Return and Indulgent Tormentor are a good start but not close to enough enablers for that strategy.

It is possible to combine lifeloss (i.e what makes rakdos a worthwhile commander imo) with Aetherflux Reservoir if a majority of the effects involve draining. Otherwise I don't think the resevoir is worth including.

It's obvious you want to run a lot of demons but a lot of them aren't worth including without enough ways to abuse their downsides. Rakdos the Defiler is actually terrible to attack with because you'll either lose your lands, rocks, or your board presence, for an effect that isn't going to win games on its own.

Abyssal Persecutor is often worse than Desecration Demon (which already sucks against tokens and weenie aggro), and makes it much easier for your opponents to ignore you until they can assemble their own wincon.

Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch does very little for the deck since nothing enters with +1/+1 counters and therefore can't benefit from the haste she gives.

The Wretched is pretty useless in a deck that can't force people to block.

Lastly, even if Aetherflux Reservoir is a desired wincon, Braidwood Cup is way too weak to be worth 3 mana.

It seems like you are trying to do a bunch of things at once and out of all of them I don't think the self-discard strategy is working here unless you fully commit to it with better payoffs than Anthem of Rakdos, Archfiend of Ifnir and Soulflayer.

Well A) for more out-there counter ideas, my deck has some good ones: +1/+1 Counterspells. It may be a little too out-there but it's some good ideas. Killing Wave, Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch, and Herald of Secret Streams are stand-outs. Killing wave is a beast.

For enchantments... stuff gets really tough. Green and white have most of the good removal. However, Nevinyrral's Disk is fantastic. I am now putting it in my deck...

Max out to 4 of each of Rakdos Cackler, Rakdos Shred-Freak, Hellhole Flailer, & Spike Jester. Get rid of Rakdos, Lord of Riots, Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch, & Dragonlord Kolaghan. Their mana cost is too high for the type of deck you are building. I would add 4 Lightning Bolt, 4 Blightning, & 4 Duress. There are a lot more cards that I could suggest, but they would increase the costs significantly. Check out my deck for some ideas: Devil's Revenge.

sylvannos on Is Humans a real deck?

I know with the Humans lists I've messed around with, the problem I had was getting that "oomf!" a lot of other tribal decks have. Goblins has Goblin Chieftain. Merfolk have 29,834,891 bazillion different lords. Elves can snowball into Craterhoof Behemoth...and so on and so forth.

I also think the list is just a few pieces away from becoming an established archetype. I already think it's stronger than Slivers. If I had to put my finger on one thing in particular, it'd probably be some type of top-deck finisher. Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch saw some play in Vintage because she smashes Jace, the Mind Sculptor. She also works with Experiment One and Champion of the Parish. Surrak, the Hunt Caller and Samut, Voice of Dissent are also options.

None of those really have the ability to close out the game like Lord of Atlantis (islandwalk) or Craterhoof Behemoth, though.

Thanks for understanding the deck and not suggesting a ton of expensive cards ElTacoDude. You are right, this deck is built from cards that I already own. I had a lot of Rakdos cards left over from building Devil's Revenge and I thought they could make a nice commander deck. Am I choosing the right commander between Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch, Mogis, God of Slaughter, & Rakdos, Lord of Riots? Thanks for suggesting that website. I think I have used it before but forgot about it. Rakdos, Lord of Riots is the most popular Rakdos commander, so I think I'm good there. I'm probably going to start with buying some of the cheaper cards, see how the deck plays, and then figuring out what expensive cards I can't live without. Thanks for the help!

Hey severininfurs, do you pay attention to the Tapped Out Casual to Competitive percentage? I noticed that this deck went from 42% competitive down to 38% competitive when I swapped my Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch and Gurmag Angler. I'm not saying the deck was better before, but I was just wondering if anyone pays attention to that.

Thanks severininfurs! I was thinking of getting rid of Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch. I like her abilities, but I only have 1 other creature that has +1/+1 counters, so that part of it doesn't synergize with my deck anymore, except when I have a Fists of the Demigod on the battlefield. I used to have more creatures with unleash that added +1/+1 counters, so she made more sense then. The Gurmag Angler works really well with my Faithless Looting and I like your point that it has the possibility of being cast for less mana. This was the very first deck I constructed. It has changed a lot and come a long way from what it used to be. Thanks for your help.
