The #1 Braids deck on Tappedout! Thank you!!

Control, theft, and ways to gain tempo are the game plan until Braids gets established and rolling. The idea is to play Braids before my turn and/or bounce her back to my hand. The selection of theft effects ideally take away some of the power of giving my opponents more cards out and the means to play them for free.

Braids isn't the most competitive general but this is supposed to be a fun deck that throws a 'lil bit of chaos into a multiplayer game. I still keep throwing money at this deck though.

This deck started off as a humble ~$60 budget deck full of sea monsters. It had a solid number of theft cards as a subtheme. It is one of my favorites so I kept upgrading it. I added more and more theft cards and pared back the Braids-ing in fattys aspect. I still want to have some of it in the deck--otherwise Empress Galina, Thada Adel, Acquisitor, or the dreaded Memnarch should be commander (or any number of multicolored commanders, like Merieke Ri Berit, Marchesa, the Black Rose, Rubinia Soulsinger, Sen Triplets, or quirkier choices like Hanna, Ship's Navigator and Muldrotha, the Gravetide to easily recur theft Auras. Many commanders can do theft well--even things like Keranos, God of Storms and Nin, the Pain Artist for a value engine in the command zone. I'm far too sentimental to drop Braids, Conjurer Adept so I will maintain her aspect as a control-finisher thing.

A lot of my removal is creature theft, which didn't leave much room for other kinds of interaction like AEtherize, or more hard removal like Pongify and Resculpt. Just part of the deck's charm I suppose.

For a time I had a fair amount of group-hug elements but I found it just drew my opponents into answers and wasn't particularly fun--there weren't many political group-hug things I could leverage.

For a while I didn't include Eldrazi for thematic and budget reasons but then I had a realization. I eventually realized that I was busting my ass and paying 6 or 7 mana to safely cheat in an 8- or 9-drop kraken; not quite where one wants to be in commander! So to make Braids' ability worth it I would need to have the deck wholly built around her ability and include upward of twenty bombs and more facilitators like Quicksilver Amulet, Vodalian Illusionist, and Paradox Haze. I wanted more theft in the deck so I settled on a bare-minimum Braids package that I'm trying to slowly upgrade with more impactful (and expensive!) bombs, like Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger and the mighty, dreaded Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre.

I tried to make some of the card-draw cards be based off of what my opponents do, to feel a bit more on-theme. Things like Insight, Ever-Watching Threshold, Curse of Verbosity, and Rhystic Study. Rhystic is obviously amazing though.

Cards with an SL are cards I own. Cards with an MP are potential cuts. Cards with an HP are proxies.
