I love the D&D description XD

Bootleggers' Stash, Strike it Rich, Stimulus Package, and Chatterfang, Squirrel General all perform exceedingly well in my Korvold deck.

If you have the budget I would also recommend the fetchlands (any of them that match even one color with your color identity) and Ramunap Excavator/Crucible of Worlds.

This will be abit of an essay but if we look at Sylvan Library, Phyrexian Arena and Black Market Connections there are obvious parallels.

  • Sylan Library can be seen as reorder the top 3 cards + optional pay 4 life for card draw
  • Phyrexian Arena can be seen as pay 1 life for card draw
  • Black Market Connections can be seen as pay 1/2/3 life for ramp, card draw, ramp+card draw

Your phyrexian tribal deck lacks good ramp or colour fixing (thematic?) in addition to consistent card draw.

So phyrexian arena is a flavour win and gives a good rate for card draw while Black Market Connections give a good rate acts as both a free Strike it Rich and a phyrexian arena.

The situation in which SL is better than BMC is:

a) I am looking to draw 0 extra cards and reorder the top 3 of my library, and I have no need for ramp/colour fixing

  • If we look at these two situations reordering the top 3 of the deck overlaps with Sensei's Divining Top, and this effect isn't great without any synergy at all. If this is valuable to the deck it would make sense to pivot to Herald's Horn to get some free draws but the expected value with only 22 creatures is pretty low. In my version of your list I cut both cards due to the fact we really would rather be spending mana/slots to be drawing bangers than scrying and spinning our wheels.

b) I am looking to pay 8 life to draw 2 cards, and I have no need for ramp/colour fixing

  • This deck lacks strong lifegain, we could slot in a Serra Ascendant (would be on theme since atraxa is a fallen angel) but as it stands our health is a valuable resource. How many rounds in a game do we draw 2 extra and pay the 8 life, best case scenario 3 rounds for a total of 6 cards and 24 life. On the other hand with BMC I have never turned down paying 3 life for ramp+1 extra draw. The rate is just so much better, even when comparing to Phyrx arena would I pay 1 extra life for the ability to ramp instead of draw? Yes.

I really like your list and primer but there are some adjustments like SL/SDT that I think could make it more consistent and impactful.

Ancient copper dragon is crazy good. Rediscovered a newer favorite of mine Surge to Victory + Xtra combat spell is a inf combat win most of the time. Or w/out its still a great value play

A few additional thoughts though your 3 drop slot is huge maybe try to find some cheaper spells that make mana like Wily Goblin or Strike it Rich Impulsive Pilferer Indulge / Excess not the most fun but can allow you to have the fun.

You should look at improving your manabase with duals of some sort, the pathway lands are great for this, shocklands, fetchlands etc. (I know they can be pricey). Chromatic Lantern and/or The World Tree are other great inclusions in multi coloured decks.

Other than that cards like Strike it Rich, Doubling Season and Academy Manufactor would greatly increase your treasure generation.

As mentioned by another user Fog or other fog effects are great if you just need to prevent combat damage to survive another turn. Druid's Deliverance has populate which would also increase the citizen tokens you generate.

Cultivate, Migration Path and similar spells can be great ramp options to help speed you up.

If you really want to slow people down Stone Rain is a cheap land destruction option at 3 mana (once you turn to the dark side there is no going back though)

Well I hope some of these suggestions have been helpful. Good luck with it and +1 from me.

wallisface I was thinking it wouldn't be too bad because 20 land plus 2 from Spikefield Hazard  Flip plus Strike it Rich giving a little something. Also the only card higher than CMC 3 is Fury (which you can evoke for 0) and Obosh. So while more mana for doing graveyard stuff with Seasoned Pyromancer, Hammer of Bogardan, and the companion would be good, I don't think it is needed.

I did playtest a little and yeah there were some cases where I did miss land drops but i'm not exactly sure what I want to do about it yet. I think i'm going to cut Lightning Bolt for 1 mountain and 1 Strike it Rich and see how that goes.

king-saproling ,

I was totally unaware of Strike it Rich until now, so I'll be considering that card moving forward!

In short, paying 4 mana to Bag of Holding was too steep. Shadow of the Grave was too conditional because it was often drawn into from a creatureless hand.

Cards like Shadow of the Grave and Bag of Holding increase the consistency of the deck, but also require precious mana. Right now the stats for the current build are as follows:

Turn 3 Combo: 47%

Turn 4 Combo: 30%

Turn 5+ Combo: 23%

The sample size is 46 Games so far.

I suspect that adding those cards should reduce the number of games above 5+ turns that end up being complete misses. Although, I found that when I was drawing into those cards, I was not very happy to see them. The build you see above is a result of influence from my personal playgroup, so it may not be optimized. Running cheap interaction in the slots previously taken by Street Wraith, Bag of Holding, and Shadow of the Grave are now filled by cards like Feed the Swarm, Imp's Mischief, and Vandalblast. Cheap graveyard hosers were pretty common to see after a few games of running the build.

I hope that makes sense. Optimally an Imperial Seal would be in the decklist, but I'd rather keep my kidneys, thank you.
