Tarkir Peasant Block Cube

Description

This is my first attempt at a paper cube, and I'm hoping to tweak it a bit here on Tapped Out. The theme I'm going for is the Tarkir Block, and I'm using a Peasant restriction (commons and uncommons only). I think the Peasant format has enough enablers for various different deck styles, and in this block the wedge clans vs allied clans theme comes through really well at the uncommon level.

This is a cube I've designed for a beginner-to-intermediate play group that is broadly familiar with the cards from the current block, but that perhaps may not draft very often and would like to experience some of what we've enjoyed over the last year in this block. The overall power level of the cards is fairly low which should allow for inexperienced players to find a footing learning to draft with these cards, and there are still a number of very nice synergies at work that should help to make for different experiences each time.

The Cube overall is designed to encourage you to focus on two colours but with enough fixing options that you can easily splash a third, and also leaving open the old Khans strategy of taking the lands and playing 5-colour morph. The archetypes I broadly have in mind for the various colour pairs are as you'd expect:

  • White-Blue Spells Matter (prowess tempo and evasion)
  • White-Black Warriors (aggro with warrior synergies)
  • White-Red Tokens (wide aggro buffs and token makers)
  • White-Green Counters (bolster and outlast midrange)
  • Blue-Black Control (exploit, counterspells and big hitters)
  • Blue-Red Tempo (direct damage, tricks and card advantage)
  • Blue-Green Facedowns (lots of morph and manifest effects and support)
  • Black-Red Dash (aggro with lots of haste)
  • Black-Green Reanimate (graveyard effects and toughness bonuses)
  • Red-Green Beatdown (ramp, larger creatures and buffs)

Many of the cycles in the various sets have been retained in full for flavour and comprehension reasons, including the enemy-coloured spells from Khans and Fate. The cube features the 5 uncommon allied colour dragons and the 5 uncommon wedge creatures and charms, as well as all 10 lifegain lands, all 5 wedge lands, and the banners and monuments for fixing.

(I'm considering a powered-up version which introduces the 5 Sieges, Khans and Dragons from Fate Reforged, but would like to see what can be done at the Uncommon level before moving into rares.)

Would certainly appreciate any thoughts or suggestions for improvement!

I like your cube. I built a cube from the Khans Standard Block. We have a lot of the same cards.

Ive only drafted it once so far, but everyone seemed to have fun with it. My cube includes rares, but not mythics.

I will have to consider Woolly Loxodon and Shockmaw Dragon as those look like great game Enders.
