Ruthless Deathfang Discussion

Mj3913 That's true. My concern there would be that it might feel more like a faerie deck if the board state is more often Alela, a few faerie tokens, and a couple of dragons. Building around Ruthless Deathfang, Boneyard Scourge, Scourge of Nel Toth, Keiga, the Tide Star, Kokusho, the Evening Star, Yosei, the Morning Star, Martyr's Bond, Grave Pact, Dictate of Erebos, Ashnod's Altar, Phyrexian Altar, and Phyrexian Tower could be interesting. Turning those tokens into other resources would help it feel more like a dragon deck.

The first problem is the sorcery speed of it: it doesn't let you sacrifice doomed creatures. For example, Altar's Reap lets you block with a critter, then sac it to pay the cost or, sac a creature that's about to eat a Lightning Bolt .

Then, there's the two creature part of the cost. If you're running Bloodghast or other creatures that don't care about getting killed, you can play the far superior Cathartic Reunion instead.

If you have effects that trigger when you sacrifice things, like Dragon Appeasement or Ruthless Deathfang , you'd probably rather have something like Viscera Seer .

Wonder and Skullclamp would be an autoinclude. You could do some aristocrats style gameplay while grinding through little self-recurring dudes like Bloodghast, Reef Worm, and Bloodsoaked Champion while churning through your deck with Midnight Reaper or Grim Haruspex, draining everyone with Blood Artist effects and simultaneously clearing the board with Grave Pact effects (found a use for Ruthless Deathfang!)

Havengul Lich, Mimic Vat and Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder honorable mentions.

You could include some mind control effects to sac for value. Dragonlord Silumgar and Roil Elemental have a special place in my heart. And while we're on the topic of ETB's you could run a few one-off etb/death guys like Ravenous Chupacabra, Mulldrifter (I believe you can evoke and sac the dude while the evoke sacrifice trigger is on the stack but don't quote me on that) the primordials and Keiga, the Tide Star.

Jimmy_Chincilla, I did have Sunscorch in there during one of the initial drafts, but I felt like I was starting to run up against a really steep mana curve. I will definitely look for Cavern of Souls, that seems to be able to make a lot of things really damaging. Necromaster could definitely make some good sac fodder for Ruthless Deathfang.

Thanks for the suggestions! I totally agree that Butcher of Malakir is a better choice than Ruthless Deathfang. As for Pongify, I will definitely be looking for Vraska's Contempt to replace it with, but will be using your Memory Plunder proposition instead for now.

Cheers!
