Kill Shot Discussion

Dreyvor on Karlov - EDH

Reconnaissance is an incredible card. I like to think of it as super vigilance for all your creatures. It gives you an amazing degree of flexibility in combat. The old wording on the card can throw you off the scent of what this card is capable of, specifically the line in the reminder text that says it neither deals nor receives combat damage this turn, but that is where the magic happens. You can now remove creatures from combat at the "End of Combat Step" AFTER damage is done in the "Combat Damage Step". This is still considered being in your combat phase and will untap the creature(s) while still allowing them to deal damage.

But the benefits of this card don't stop there. You can essentially swing anything you want without much regard for the consequences of your opponents decisions.

Your opponent flashes in a creature as a blocker you didn't see coming? Untap your attacker and remove it from combat.

You opponent plays a Kill Shot type effect? Untap your attacker and remove it from combat, causing your opponents spell or ability to fizzle

Also the benefit of having Karl untapped as a huge blocker can really go unappreciated.

cool deck!, I'd recommend Immolating Glare instead of Kill Shot in the sideboard.

Smite and Reprisal might be better than Rebuke and Kill Shot. Slightly more situational but I feel like you'd be using them in the same situations anyways.

Yes. You can respond to Voidmage Husher being cast, the triggered ability being put on the stack, or even the triggered ability resolving but before the Kill Shot resolves. If your opponent used something like Trickbind it would both prevent you from responding to the counter, and prevent you from activating the ability again. However, as Trickbind can counter a triggered ability, like the delayed triggered ability that would attempt to return Bruna, the Fading Light from exile, that would be a more worrying interaction.

I had a situaton where I have a Bruna, the Fading Light with Flickerform. My friend casts Kill Shot on my Bruna, the Fading Light so I use flickerform. He casts Voidmage Husher to counter flickerform. Can I activate Flickerform again on the stack to dodge Voidmage Husher?

you've got black mana you're running Kill Shot? Why not Doom Blade or Fatal Push or Path to Exile or even Beast Within?

I like how you don't have full sets of any of your cards, it can give games a little more variety. I would recommend Doom Blade or Ultimate Price or something along those lines over Kill Shot; they're a bit less situational (they work against non-aggressive decks like mill, plus they can kill creatures that your opponent won't want to/can't swing with, like tribal lords, Fog Bank, Soul's Attendant, etc.) and more efficient mana-wise.

Overall, nice deck! I've thought about building a Human deck, and this has given me some good ideas for one.
