Sprinting Warbrute

Creature — Ogre Berserker

Sprinting Warbrute attacks each turn if able.

Dash (You may cast this spell for its dash cost. If you do, it gains haste, and it's returned from the battlefield to its owner's hand at the beginning of the next end step.)

I'm just going to clear up some rules stuff for Bolt cost. It is not an additional cost like kicker, so you don't need to say "if it's bolt cost was payed," rather you say "if it was cast for its bolt cost." This reflects the reminder text in cards with dash or flashback, like Sprinting Warbrute and Defy Gravity. By phrasing the Bolt ability like flashback is worded, i.e. you may cast this card for its bolt cost, then the timing of when you can cast a flash creature or instant/sorcery will remain the same.

Something weird to note, as I researched alternative casting costs, not a single one was as good as your Bolt cost. Literally every single alternative casting cost has some kind of extra requirement, costs extra mana, or has some drawback. Flashback, madness, miracle, prowl, surge all require some condition to be met. Assist and convoke require help, too. Overload and awaken cost extra mana. Evoke and dash have a drawback. But Bolt is just something you can choose to do for extra benefits, which seems to behave more similarly to kicker abilities. Just some food for thought, but remember that basically every new set has new mechanics that tread new rules territory anyway (like mutate just a few months ago). I like the Bolt ability.

Argy on Mechanics that never really worked

This conversation is just warming up.

I must be the most out there brewer in the world, based on a lot of the comments here.

Examples below.

Before I get to those, I totally agree about Outlast.

We couldn't even make it work in my friend's deck that had Abzan Falconer in it.

As people pointed out, the mechanic was just too slow.

landofMordor if you missed the Theros block then I'm not surprised that you don't see the beauty of Hypnotic Siren.

Thing was crazy. It gives you an early flier, good for Aggro, or a LATE flier, good for Control, that leaves a Creature behind if the Enchanted Creature dies.

I had it in so many decks.

StuBi has only built three decks in his life.

The first one was Fleet of Foot, which went heavy on the Dash theme.

To this day his favourite card is Sprinting Warbrute.

As with a lot of these mechanics, they sometimes work best when you only have a few cards with them, in your deck.

The most successful deck I ever built for StuBi, if not THE most successful deck I ever built, focused on Melding Gisela, the Broken Blade and Bruna, the Fading Light, and then equipping them with Stitcher's Graft.

Angelic High

Unfortunately StuBi doesn't write match reports, but the thing won so many FNMs that it wasn't funny.

12/13 with Flying, first strike, vigilance, and lifelink coming atcha.

BOOM!!

Bolster is amazing in the DTK Cube I built.

Tarkir Skies

Mostly because of Enduring Scalelord.

I agree that it wasn't the best in Constructed.

Finally, banding.

Here, said my friend, build me a Mini Cube out of all these old cards I have.

(Argy looks at cards, sees that just about every Creature card has Banding on it)

Do not put Leviathan in that Cube, another friend said, no one will EVER pick that card.

The first time we play the Cube NO ONE is picking or , so I start to. We are playing 2HG. I happen to be partnering with my friend that said not to put Leviathan in.

Don't you pick that card, he warns me.

On the first go around of the last pack, I pick Leviathan.

Great, he says, we have lost.

We got ahead in the game, mostly through me saccing two Islands so that we could have a 10/10 Leviathan blocker sitting on the field.

It got to a stage in the game where our Opponents were down to six life, with a 2/2 and a 2/3 on the field.

I sacced two Islands so Leviathan could attack, paid to Band it with Icatian Infantry, and hit for game.

Yahoooooooooo!!

None of these anecdotes prove that any of the mechanics are great, just that they CAN work if you a build a creative deck that utilises them well.

Plus ... I just like telling Magic stories.

Is it worth it to put in cards with Dash like Flamerush Rider or Sprinting Warbrute, to trigger the experience multiple times?

You Seem to be missing Sprinting Warbrute... that combined with Warbringer is a pretty quick way to wrap up the game

I like the additions. In a dash deck the more wipe options you have the better. With N disk now you have some enchantment and artifact removal too, and playing in this group you will need it.

There are some pretty cool other dash creatures out there too that you might considerFlamerush Rider is good especially in 2 headed giant, where you might be able to copy ricks Ulamog's Crusher or something. Got a high dash cost which is something to look at but with Warbringer its not too bad at all. Esentially 5 mana for 2 3/3s and a copy of whatever else - ouch.

Id lose Kolaghan Aspirant for something like Mardu Scout essentially the same mana cost for the permanent creature, but with dash included and 3 power.

Mardu Strike Leader ive got an extra copy of if you want it.

Vaultbreaker is Amazing! I just saw this and wow, so you pay 3, then if you want you get to discard a crappy card you dont need, and then draw a card? Not to mention 4/2, which few things will want to block, meaning you get to do it again. This guy is a must in your deck, which has little card draw - I would run 3 of him at least.

I totally get these cards:

Ambuscade Shaman, Boltwing Marauder - creature buffs. Need emSprinting Warbrute - big damage, need it

These cards can be replaced with much more efficient creatures, like the ones I mentioned:

Swift Warkite - way too expensive CMC, also half your creatures are CMC >3. its cool to put a creature back in your hand/battlefield but there are better options for this if thats what youre after - Cadaver Imp, Entomber Exarch, Flamewake Phoenix, Sheoldred, Whispering One (one mana more gets you that!!), Feldon of the Third Path, Unearth etc...

Screamreach Brawler, Kolaghan Skirmisher, Kolaghan Aspirant, not enough damage (2) for what youre paying. They have added toughness but that rarely does much. I would rather have the added damage of Mardu Scout, and to make room for Vaultbreaker and the like.

Cheers.

I'll comment here from now on. It's easier for both of us.

I like Stoneforge Acolyte in an equipment heavy deck, but not really this one.

Weapons Trainer is very good, but again is best for equipment heavy decks. I mean it's still an amazing 2 drop, but you only get her pay off with an equipment on the field.

I'd rather put an extra Kor Bladewhirl in than her for the First Strike advantage.

You should add Firemantle Mage to this deck. It helps get early damage through.

I would use Chasm Guide instead of Kor Entanglers.

I have a LOT of experience with Allies. Here's the deck I built which did very well at FNM:
Triple A

What seems to work best is a lot of early interactions which are difficult to deal with, First Strike, Menace, Haste, and then something huge to finish off at the end. The finisher doesn't need to be an Ally.

Something like Akoum Hellkite, Archangel of Tithes, Emeria Shepherd, Linvala, the Preserver, Sentinel of the Eternal Watch, Serra Angel, Shivan Dragon, Sprinting Warbrute (he might be amazing in your deck with his Dash ability), Sunscorch Regent, Thunderbreak Regent, Tyrant of Valakut, Volcanic Rambler, Wardscale Dragon (I just realised this combos well with Sprinting Warbrute as they can't use Instants on it and it will be back in your hand on their turn), Wingmate Roc (this is a tried and true staple).

Of course everything needs to be tested. I'll try to keep an eye out for how you are going.

The Converted Mana Cost is derived from a card's mana cost in the upper right corner.

Sprinting Warbrute has a CMC of 5, even when you cast it for its dash cost. You would get an experience counter.

vanista on Kalemne and Dash

When casting a creature for its dash cost, does it affect it's CMC? For example if I have Kalemne, Disciple of Iroas on the battlefield and cast a Sprinting Warbrute as dash, would I get an experience counter?
