Blood-Chin Rager Discussion

I think a couple cards should get cut, most notably skullclamp and Jazal because they are both illegal in modern, as well as gravepurge, brave the sands, and obelisk of urd. I think you should focus on getting putting your key powerful warrior cards like Arashin Foremost Blood-Chin Rager, Glory-Bound Initiate, and Chief of the Edge as full playsets for the most consistent draws. As well you may want to consider Metallic Mimic as an additional lord. For removal your best options would be a mix of Fatal Push or Path to Exile. As well your landbase should be fine-tuned as well, as Warriors tend to have obnoxious casting costs. You've got a solid core, but there is a lot of room for improvement.

As an agro deck you should be careful about what kinds of lands and early plays you put into your deck. Playing a card like Despise means you're not playing a 1CMC creature which could take you off an aggressive path. Same goes for Scoured Barrens, since you want to play a 1CMC creature a lot more than you want to gain 1 life on turn one. Fairly cheap upgrades to the mana to ensure you are playing untapped lands are cards like Concealed Courtyard and Caves of Koilos.
Solemn Offering is a sideboard card at best and should not be in the mainboard.
Chief of the Scale is too defensive, Hateblade, Hordechief, Skullhunter, Pain Seer, Herald, and Hordemate are all fairly mediocre and certainly not worth putting you over the 60 card minimum and decreasing your efficiency.
Subtracting the Despise, Offering, and cards mentioned above leaves room for about 25-30 or so slots that can be used to help make the deck more aggressive and cohesive. Cards like-

Also, in aggro decks, I especially recommend running 2 - 4x Valorous Stance. That card's utility is way too good to pass up. Especially in a meta with Fatal Push. It will not block Path to Exile, but most people would probably try not to use those up right away. Instead of Mardu Charm, I would run Secure the Wastes, and for the most part Crackling Doom is kind of worthless in modern, unless you're going up against a control type deck.
Kolaghan's Command is almost a must if you can afford the price (since you got the colors I would put at least 2x in my SB). I bought 8 of them when they were selling for a buck, I knew that card was going to be broken.
- -3x Devoted Crop-Mate
- -4x Glory-Bound Initiate
- -2x Always Watching
- -2x Mardu Charm
- -3x Herald of Dromoka
- -1x Honored Crop-Captain
- -4x Nef-Crop Entangler
+3x Blood-Chin Rager
- +3x Valorous Stance
- +2x Secure the Wastes
- +3x Sorin, Solemn Visitor (Your main wincon with some board state)
- +4x Chief of the Edge
- +2x Battle Brawler
- +2x Path to Exile
- +1 or 2x Brutal Hordechief as a topper / alt win-con
- +1 or 2x Hero's Downfall
Maybe if you find space for it, a Mardu Strike Leader.
- -2x Mountain
- -4x Nomad Outpost
- +4x Battlefield Forge
- +4x Caves of Koilos
- +2x Mana Confluence or City of Brass
Total 22 lands since your CMC is so low. You also need some wincon finishers, Sorin, Solemn Visitor is my aggro planeswalker of choice here. He also pairs nice with the painlands, basically having you recover any early self-pain. You should definitely use some disruption, probably Thoughtseize in SB otherwise you are highly vulnerable to wipes. Something on the sideboard for drawing extra cards wouldn't hurt either, e.g. Painful Truths.
So, for the SB, I would add
Depending on how competitive your meta is, there's a few other things you might need to add in there.
The core of most warrior decks look extremely similar because those are generally the best warriors out there.

I think Sorin is better due to the effect lasting through the opponent's turn and, most importantly, coming with an anthem. He's also effectively 1 mana cheaper, and can make tokens for you if your board is empty or nearly empty. That said if you want more land and can't choose what else to cut, that could be fine. The deathtouch vault gives could be a nice bonus sometimes, especially with Blood-Chin Rager. I'm also not really a fan of having any mainboard Secure the Wastes, and would probably cut it for a Sorin, or the 4th copy of Blood-Chin Rager or Mardu Woe-Reaper.

Thanks for the feedback KGW! I hadn't considered Zealous Persecution, but I love the card and its a good idea here. The main issue is that you can only fit so many noncreature spells into an Aether Vial deck, and that's really the direction I want to go with this right now. I will probably fit some in the sideboard though once I develop one. As for Blood-Chin Rager, I absolutely loved playing it in standard, and tried very hard to find a spot for it. The issue there is that I already have a whopping 16 two drops here, and I can't really imagine myself cutting any of the others, at least without testing. It will probably also find a home in the sideboard. As for Arashin Foremost, I debated adding more and may still do so. The main issue is it's hard to cast with my manabase, the Mutavaults restricting my access to colored mana. But Aether Vial does help, it speeds up my clock nicely, and with Vial it can even be a combat trick. I was already uncertain what the distribution between it and Devoted Crop-Mate should be, or whether Always Watching was worth it at all, so I may totally increase the number of those. Thanks again for the suggestions!

Great list! Have you considered finding a home in the 75 for Zealous Persecution? I run a few copies maindeck and find that it, along with Blood-Chin Rager really prevents the opponent from properly blocking. I'd also recommend that Arashin Foremost be a 4 of; it is stupid powerful in a tribal build. Check out my BW warrior build in my profile, its a bit more all in than your build, but I find that it is a blast to play at FNM.

Looks pretty good, I'm not too familiar with frontier but I would bump Arashin Foremost to a full playset, and also consider testing Mardu Strike Leader and Blood-Chin Rager. I would put those in instead of Chief of the scale. I've toyed around with Warriors multiple times and the butt chief always kinda underperformed in my experience.

Blood-Chin Rager makes your warriors almost unblockable. Definitely a strong card to consider!
