Swarm of Bloodflies

Creature — Insect

Flying

Swarm of Bloodflies enters the battlefield with two +1/+1 counters on it.

Whenever another creature dies, put a +1/+1 counter on Swarm of Bloodflies. (Dying is being put into the graveyard from the battlefield. Tokens enter the graveyard before they cease to exist.)

Love that deckname :D

I accidentally only just yesterday build my own massacre girl, but with a little twist: I included lots of discard so my opponents have to choose if they keep their cards in hand to have them discarded, or if they commit to the board and run into the visible wipe from the command zone.

Yours is very cool as well though. Just kill everything. Swarm of Bloodflies and Patron of the Vein might be very useful for you. Also how about Akroan Horse ?

I've got a sweet brew Better off dead where I use Indulgent Tormentor as the CMDR. This deck also works with Swarm of Bloodflies and Loyal Subordinate I tend to think that they all have interesting and fun playstyles. I lean toward Indulgent Tormentor because its card draw and burn and a flying 5 power CMDR

Personally, I don't like stuff like Swarm of Bloodflies, Yahenni, Undying Partisan or Unleash cards. There isn't really a gimmick to them besides the fact that they are always on the battlefield (assuming Marchesa managed to return them in the first place).

If the only reason a creature is good is because it's big, or that it can be returned easily, then don't put it in. Even if the card is always on the battlefield, it will never give you card advantage if that's the only thing it does.

I would rather have cards like Thalakos Deceiver or an ETB creature like Mulldrifter. These types of cards benefit you even if Marchesa isn't on the battlefield. They can actually give you answers/card advantage by themselves. I own a Marchesa deck in real life, and for the most part you don't have to worry about putting +1/+1 counters on creatures. Marchesa does a fine job on her own putting them on herself.

And if you build her with a fair number of ETB creatures, you don't need to worry as much if you can't get Marchesa out, because your ETB creatures will still trigger.

I don't know, maybe it's just a difference in taste, but you're welcome to look at my deck for more suggestions:

Um, frankly, not really. It is one of the weaknesses of this deck I think. You want to play on every player's end step, which admittedly gets annoying for some players.

Putting some more creatures that get bigger with deaths (like Swarm of Bloodflies, Carrion Feeder, or Bloodflow Connoisseur) could be one method. Fallen Ideal is a sac outlet that can protect your commander (against damage based board wipes or removal) and gives evasion via flying, which could possibly make commander damage a sudden unexpected wincon.

I think one of the best (that is, fastest) strategies would be to use lifedraining effects of Zulaport Cutthroat, Blood Artist, Falkenrath Noble,Grey Merchant of Asphodel, Tattered Mummy and possibly others, perhaps in combination with a token swarm strategy. In fact, an artifact token strategy with Marionette Master and Genesis Chamber could be a great way to go.

The problem is that this deck needs enough control elements to protect itself, since it is very much a glass cannon. Maybe consider more tutors - there are definitely some that I don't have just because of the costs. Buried Alive, Entomb, Vampiric Tutor, cheap reanimation like Reanimate, Animate Dead, and Exhume could help you assemble your engine faster. This deck is rather slow by nature of having a 5CMC commander, needing protection to keep it stable, and needing at least a few other creatures on board to do anything useful. This deck depends on building up a massive board state, which takes time.

If you find yourself consistently having a lot of mana available (via Ashnod's Altar, Phyrexian Altar, Black Market, etc) you might be able to make a card like Exsanguinate work as a wincon.

I would put some pillow fort cards in here. If you don't have a reason for a player not to attack you then you'll be target #1. Most players don't like playing against stax so they will all gang up on you. Cards like No Mercy, Vengeful Pharaoh, Dread, Crawlspace, Silent Arbiter will all detour people from targeting you. Additionally, any card that works directly with Mogis is awesome since he usually sticks around. So Blood Artist, Bloodchief Ascension, Harvester of Souls, Hissing Iguanar, Ob Nixilis, Unshackled, Swarm of Bloodflies, Yahenni, Undying Partisan, etc. are all a lot better when paired with Mogis. Also damage doublers will speed it up too. Wound Reflection is one you missed. If you really want to ruin people's day Stranglehold + Maralen of the Mornsong OR Ob Nixilis, Unshackled + Maralen of the Mornsong are super oppressive and awesome combos.

This looks pretty nice. There's a few points, though

  • Returned Centaur is just weak, especially here. I see what you're trying to do with self-mill, but it's hit and miss as you may hit non-creatures as well.

  • Filigree Familiar is also weak. Gaining 2 life isn't worth it. Drawing a card is nice, but there must be better ways to do this.

  • Tree of Perdition doesn't really fit the theme.

  • Swarm of Bloodflies is less good, imo, then Noosgraff Mob, because a 2/2 flyer for 5 mana isn't great, and it getting bigger slowly each turn isn't worth it.

  • Tithe booooo! Artifact ramp is better in this deck, I think.

  • Gamble isn't worth it as you're not making a combo deck. You're in black, so card:Vamperic Tutor is almost strictly better. Unless you want to discard the card... in which case that's still not great.

  • Disempower isn't great, generally a single target removal spell isn't worth it, especially if they can just cast it again next turn.

Have you considered Dark Deal, if you want to discard cards?

Swarm of Bloodflies would be good for this deck and could get big really quickly and Lhurgoyf would also be pretty good as well
