Ambuscade Shaman

Creature — Orc Shaman

Whenever Ambuscade Shaman or another creature enters the battlefield under your control, that creature gets +2/+2 until end of turn.

Dash (You may cast this spell for its dash cost. If you do, it gains haste, and it's returned from the battlefield to its owner's hand at the beginning of the next end step.)

DankMagicianD I tried out Ambuscade Shaman today online, I love it. It's crazy how much a difference 2 damage can make, especially when Gisela, Blade of Goldnight, Berserkers' Onslaught and Xenagos, God of Revels are on board. That +2 ends up being 16 extra damage. Pretty wild

DankMagicianD thanks for the comment! I’ve never heard of Ambuscade Shaman, out of every card you mentioned I think I would for sure want to try it out. Cuts are so damn hard though. I especially love that he is 3 cmc for Aluren.

The only good use I see for Luminous Broodmoth is etb effects or if I already have a sac outlet on board, otherwise the suicide squad will just die on the next turn.

I spent a couple weeks testing Thunderkin Awakener on Xmage (online commander website), it does okay, but I think recursion / graveyard protection is covered pretty well already.

Lastly, Thunderblust is really cool, I just wish it didn’t cost 5 mana to cast. If it were 4 cmc like Blistering Firecat that would be really cool. The 3 red devotion is tough too.

Thank you so much for the comment though, it really means a lot in helping to give the deck synergy. So many people have had a hand in building this deck with me both online and in person. Do you have any suggestions for something to remove for Ambuscade Shaman?

Ambuscade Shaman is a second Primal Forcemage for your deck. Luminous Broodmoth lets you get double usage out of your creatures, and Thunderkin Awakener can bring them back as well. Thunderblust is another good suicide option.

@shwanerz88: The wastes are placeholders until I make my cuts and figure out what distribution of basics I want. I think you're right that 37 lands is too many, does 36 seem right?

@ZendikariWol: Anowon is a good card that just also happens to be a shaman. Given that I will (likely) have Graveborn to sacrifice, or get graveborn from sacrificing my other creatures, he isn't very harmful. He also strikes the right balance of strength, without being oppressive and unfun like Grave Pact . Fauna Shaman and the Lich are in the same boat, I don't do much with my graveyard but they're good cards. Card selection and tutoring with a relevant creature type is nice. I think I want to hold onto the creature-only mana producers because I currently have a high creature count and need the fixing. If I end up going down to <35 creatures I'll probably drop most of them. Stoneshaker Shaman is a card that makes my opponent's interaction harder without really hindering mine. There isn't a whole lot of combo at my LGS so I'm not too worried about other people slipping dangerous things past the control players. Mazirek is there because there is an aristocrat subtheme because of Sek'Kuar. He's a shaman who pumps my other dudes.

I've cut the rest though, thank you for your suggestions! Making Graveborns into temporary 6/4's or 5/3's sounded nice, but I agree that Primal Forcemage and Ambuscade Shaman are too narrow.

Suggested cuts:

Ambuscade Shaman and Primal Forcemage : only works with hasty creatures.

Anowon, the Ruin Sage : slow and introduces a different tribal theme- feels out of place, especially to vorthos weirdos like me. Can't have a vampire card in a shaman deck, man!

Beastcaller Savant , Bloodline Shaman , Shaman of Forgotten Ways , and more or less all of your planeswalkers: dependent on the number of creatures in your deck and even without the cut cards has a <50% chance to draw you a card.

Dragon's Herald and Hellkite Overlord seems like an odd package.

Fauna Shaman and Underrealm Lich : you have no reason to stock your graveyard and very few things that get things back from the graveyard.

Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest - also Door of Destinies : so many people put him in aristocrat decks, it confuses me! Do you want your creatures to die or not??

Mindclaw Shaman : for you to get any real value out of him, you need to be casting an instant or sorcery that costs at least 4 mana. Decide depending on your meta whether that's consistently feasible.

Stoneshaker Shaman : how much instant interaction is there in your meta? If the answer is less than ALL OF IT, this card is bad.

Reach of Branches feels like bulk here. This card belongs in an Azusa, Lost but Seeking deck.

I like what you're going for here! If you're trying to use Panharmonicon to pump your tokens, you can consider Ogre Battledriver, In the Web of War, Boltwing Marauder, Primal Forcemage, Ambuscade Shaman, Valor in Akros, and Goldnight Commander. Chancellor of the Forge can quadruple the size of your army if you have Panharmonicon in play. Feldon of the Third Path can bring back dead creatures as hasty tokens, so you get double with Parallel Lives in play.

You can check out my token ETB deck for more ideas!

Awesome build. Sek'Kuar has been a pet project of mine for a while now, and it ages like fine wine. Have you considered Ambuscade Shaman and Primal Forcemage?

Love seeing Sek getting love!

Ambuscade Shaman would be a nice inclusion, too.
