TheRedGoat on Anything You Can Do... : Brudiclad EDH

Okay, so I did some checking around and found an edhrec article on Brudiclad, and they set some good ground rules for the deck:

Firstly, don't go for too many styles of play. You've got a ton of sources for token creation, and there's no reason to short yourself by being greedy about the kinds you'd like. (by example I feel you have too few spells to trigger Young Pyromancer atm)

Secondly, there is a big difference in going big and going wide as well as versatility and power. All your tokens becoming big and hasty isn't the same as being small with special abilities. (big difference in token beaters and token Eldrazi scions)

I would point out that the article covers only two builds: artifacts or spell slinger. You say you want to emphasize a clone/theft build, but honestly I'm not sure Brudiclad is well suited to that. To my knowledge such a build would rather play Mind Control and Threaten than Goblinslide or Goblin Assault (at least to name the weaker cards I see you running).

I will say that if you want to just run a bunch of random good stuff cards to make tokens of, then you need the following package: Soul Separator, Soul Foundry, God-Pharaoh's Gift, and Back from the Brink. Those cards, plus Mimic Vat and the Feldon in your maybe board, act as a perfect graveyard package for whatever other creatures you want to run. Other "packages" you should look into are ETB copy effects (see Blade of Selves, sacrifice outlets (like Goblin Bombardment for having a mass token hoard), and if you decide to run any tokens that generate mana there's always "x-spells".

Best of luck to you! I can definitely say that I'll be trying out that grave package, but if you get to it first let me know how it plays in your meta! Also as a disclaimer I don't know what running some of these packages will do to the power level of your deck. It may be lower tier, or it may be too OP for your playgroup. Use with caution.

Okay, so I have some more suggestions, lol...

Leyline of Anticipation lets you cast any of your spells before blockers are declared. Whooo!

Goblinslide and Quiet Contemplation are amazing in Narset. You're already casting a bunch of spells for free, why not use your mana to get more out of it? And hey, let's throw a Sphinx-Bone Wand on top of it, because why not?

Other cards that have to do with the deck-graveyard-exile filter engine I mentioned earlier: Elixir of Immortality, Harvest Pyre, Dig Through Time, Quest for Ancient Secrets, Cranial Archive, and Jace, the Living Guildpact. Lots of cards like these, these are just the ones I run.

Hello men!!

I'm corrently going crazy on deciding to cut Young Pyromancer OR Goblinslide. As of now my choice is young for multiple reasons.

1) is a creature instead of enchantment

2) his ability trigger only on instant or sorcery.

The slide require one more to cast it and another more to put a token but it has haste and that's very important for Cryptolith Rite especially with Skullclamp on the board.

The cards I was thinking to put in (the maybeboard) are The Locust God, that can go combo with Cryptolith Rite or Earthcraft and Skullclamp, or Mindmoil to turn the deck over and over again like a crazy.

Here is the list and thanks in advance!

Thanks for your comment Nathanaiel,

Drake Haven was included as I naturally played Faithless Looting and Izzet Charm mainboard to find our combo pieces already, so I decided to add a little more cycle/discard/loot effects and stick Drake Haven mainboard, although I agree that either Goblin Assault or Goblinslide are both good enchantments and make it easier to create creatures. Drake Haven creates a 2/2 which is important to make sure we dont scoop to cards like, Night of Souls' Betrayal and sometimes we can either pressure the board to force our opponent to tap out, or fight through with our tokens, which makes flying on the drake haven tokens nice. However i'm open to suggestions to replace this and cards like Censor if we drop the drake haven. Although paying for the drake every turn may mean there's a better option.

I like the investigate idea and will have a look at which cards may fit the theme best and give me more options. I would still have to include creatures to make sure I dont hit Polymorph which doesnt hit artifacts.

Another Thing, just out of curiosity.. what makes Drake Haven a better pick than some of the other token generating enchantments? think Goblin Assault or Goblinslide. Considering a pretty large part of the deck seems to be included mainly for the cycling/discard to enable Drake Haven.. You could just go Goblinslide and build a cantrip heavy deck?

Another idea might be to work with investigate cards, as Indomitable Creativity works with sacrificing artifacts?

Have you considered Goblinslide?

Thanks so much! I am ecstatic that I may have someone to bounce some actual play-tested ideas off of! Definitely keep me up to date on any experiences you have with the deck.

I definitely think a Young Pyromancer type package can work, but it will take quite a few slots to make it effective, since there is no additional synergy out of the command zone. I had such a package included for awhile, but I never went in deep enough to make Battle Hymn feel particularly powerful.

Some cards to consider for such a package that would make Battle Hymn powerful - Monastery Mentor, Goblinslide, Empty the Warrens, Haze of Rage. And in general, just going a bit more creature heavy, cantrip creatures like Wall of Omens and Dusk Legion Zealot could theoretically work.

Happy brewing!
