Frost Walker

Creature — Elemental

When Frost Walker becomes the target of a spell or ability, sacrifice it.

Ovalchase Dragster, Illusory Ambusher, Frost Walker, and Dandan seem good for cheap beaters. I would definitely lean hard into doing more damage, otherwise, you're just building a bad Edric, Spymaster of Trest deck.

Actually when I started brainstorming for this deck Wrangler was one of the cards I considered! So when I was piecing this together I wanted to have a solid playset of 2 drops to give me plays during the games I don't have a t1 dork. The three I considered were Kronch Wrangler , Heir of the Wilds , and Frost Walker . My very first iteration of this deck ran 4 Frost Walker and 4 Kronch Wrangler, a 2 drop P4 critter synergized well with Wrangler and kept my pressure up. However, Walker has alot of issues. It has basically 0 use on defense, can't be buffed by Scions or TBR, and cant be effectively protected by Stubborn Denial. Wrangler is another good card but suffers from AetherVial syndrome. You want to open with it but never want to topdeck it. Heir of the Wilds is just accross the board a phenominal card on offense and defense, and gives me 7 deathtouch bodies to push with Scions and Battle Rage. In fact with Scions he buffs himself and becomes a 5/3 fs/t/dt. The other slot went to Bonecrusher Giant. So much versitility for a 2.5 cmc critter

Looks fun! I’d probably recommend using bigger playsets of fewer creatures. Some of these seem a little redundant. For example, instead of having 2 Slippery Scoundrels and 2 Departed Deckhands, you could just have 4 Departed Deckhands.

Some things, such as Triton Shorethief, Master of Waves, Nezahal, Primal Tide, Entrancing Melody, and Frost Walker seem a little bit random as well. Its kinda like you have 2 decks that got mushed together. Id try to focus on this unblockable thing you have going and get rid of the fluff.

There are also cards that are a straight upgrade from current cards in here. Like Slither Blade being the same as Triton Shorethief, but with the unblockable ability you’re looking for. So I’d probably do some research and see what cards do these abilities with less conditions and similar mana costs.

Finally, I don’t really see any big wincons. Looks like you’re pretty much just trying to whittle down your opponents life bar with unblockables. Try to find something that uses being unblockable to your advantage that will act as a big finisher.

Looking at a few candidates from this small butt, power heavy list on Scryfall:

Torrent Elemental is not a legal card with Surrak as the commander. Both colors of the hybrid mana in either the casting cost or ability activation cost must exist in the commander's color identity. So, for example, you could play Giant Solifuge in this deck (not that I would, but it is legal to do so) but it would be illegal to play Nightveil Specter.

I would replace Destructor Dragon with Trygon Predator.

I would take out Frost Walker, Cyclone Sire, Torrent Elemental, Gruul Turf, Gruul Charm, Lightning Strike. Seer's Lantern, Nissa's Renewal, Devour in Flames, and Izzet Boilerworks.

Here's why:

  • Frost walker and Cyclone sire are more 60-card format cards.

  • Torrent elemental is illegal.

  • Gruul turf and Izzet boilerworks seem good, but they're really just strip mine/wasteland bait.

  • Gruul charm is bad. Be greener and invest in trample.

  • Lifecrafter's Bestiary or Thassa, God of the Sea are upgrades from Seer's Lantern.

  • Nissa's Renewal is late game ramp. That's bad. Early game ramp is better.

  • Burn is bad in EDH.

I would suggest (these are all just good cards for your consideration, I know there are probably more than I suggested taking out):

For a 3 color deck, the landbase would also be improved by taking out basics and putting in things like:

Ideally, for a landbase you'd have shock lands such as Steam Vents, fetch lands such as Scalding Tarn, and regular dual lands such as Volcanic Island, but those things are expensive and this is a game.

Hey I'm coming over from reddit.

I think first of all, you have some decent ramp and card draw, but I might replace Abzan Beastmaster and Triumph of Ferocity for some other green creature card draw, like Primordial Sage or Soul of the Harvest. Maybe replace Utopia Sprawl with Sakura-Tribe Elder, it's a creature so it has better synergy with your deck, also it's easier to get the extra mana. Archwing Dragon is not the best mana dump by any means and I would replace it with... I dunno there's a lot of really great goodstuff cards at 4 mana, like Rashmi, Eternities Crafter. The "buff my creature" cards are not great, like Boon Satyr or Rancor, as there are much better Anthems, like Beastmaster Ascension.Frost Walker is not a good edh card. At two mana there's Duskwatch Recruiter  Flip. Orcish Lumberjack is sketch, maybe Birds of Paradise. Maybe replace the Trinket Mage and Treasure Mage with Fierce Empath or some sick Haste enablers like Fires of Yavimaya or Hammer of Purphoros. Also a couple more lands couldn't hurt, maybe closer to 36-38. Fire/Ice has a low power for edh, as is lightning bolt. I'm also not the biggest fan of prophetic bolt. Some good removal includes Beast Within and Krosan Grip. I'm also not a fan of Skullclamp in a deck not focused around your own creatures dying. Maybe Mystic Remora or Rhystic Study for cheap card draw. A fun card I like in general is Zendikar Resurgent but it's 7 mana, and usually the turn you drop it, it does nothing. So if you can find a spot in your deck to put it go ahead, but it's low priority.

ibstudent2200: The effects would certainly be nice. The problems are:

  • As an uncommon it eats up our slots for Frost Walkers, which have no substitute at common in blue if we're already maxed out on Phantasmal Bears.

  • Having the same casting cost as Orb of Dreams makes it hard to play in a timely manner.

...I think it would excel in the High Tide + Peregrine Drake version of the deck, though.
