That is true, but Mimic Vat needs to be on the battlefield before the tree dies, or else you need to find another tree. Hour of Eternity can be cast any time after the tree dies or is discarded.

If you're just looking for a card to counter Surgical Extraction, your options are limited. Especially since that is most likely to be their turn 1 play, right after they Thoughtseize it out of your hand.

But, let's assume they're going to wait before they Extirpate your tree. Since you can turn morph cards face-up at any time, they can be used to stop Split-Second spells. It's a short list, but Den Protector, Kheru Spellsnatcher, Silumgar Spell-Eater, Stratus Dancer, and Willbender can stop Extirpate. Den Protector is probably the best one for the job, since it not only fizzles their spell, it gets it back to your hand to cast it again. Since you have 8 Chromatic things, I think you can come up with a green mana pretty easily.

Since both Mimic Vat and Morph cards cost 3, neither of them are unreasonable sideboard options against Extirpate, since none of them will be able to stop the turn 1 discard/extraction. It's something to think about.

Yea, I have 7 Legends, wanting to take out Mairisil, possibly Taigam and/or Niv-Mizzet to improve my token generation chances. Ironically, I have been wanting to put Ixidor, Reality Sculptor in, along with Silumgar Spell-Eater and Ghastly Conscription.

Flameshadow Conjuring would help me pump out a few more creatures, but up the costs would go up a bit much if I did that. It could be entertaining to throw in my Mikaeus, the Unhallowed into the mix as well.

Of the other cards I consider adding, Rayne, Academy Chancellor, Baral, Chief of Compliance, Jace's Archivist, and Information Dealer let me fix my hand, meanwhile, Supreme Inquisitor takes things from my opponents.

The real question I need to ask is: "Is it worth getting copies of wizards so much that I miss out on good Legendaries?" what do you think bushido_man96?
