Phyrexian Soulgorger Discussion

Thanks a lot for the suggestions Josu and VesuvanDoppelbanger! First and foremost, I can't believe I forgot to add Loxodon Smiter at least somewhere in the 75 as it is great against disruption and works well to activate Rhonas the Indomitable and Ghalta. Knight of the Reliquary is also an interesting suggestion. With all the fetches I'm running, it could definitely get out of hand quickly. I'll have to do some testing to see how it performs, mostly I'm just worried that it could be just a bit slow without the Retreat to Coralhelm combo. Regarding the lands, I would most likely add Kessig Wolf Run over Gavony Township because it can give trample to Ghalta for just which, at that point, is already pretty much game over. As for Phyrexian Soulgorger and Soul's Fire, these are the kind of janky combos I really love to see. I will surely do some testing with them but I think I'm going to have to save at least the soulgorger for a Solemnity combo deck with some Kitchen Finks, and Phyrexian Unlifes; the deck could be pretty scary imo.

How about a Phyrexian Soulgorger? You're playing enough little guys to feed him - that would probably only happen once or twice, and he puts a lot of power on the board towards your Ghalta. Rhonas and Rancor can trample him up to get through.

A Soul's Fire might be a helpful finisher w/ giants roaming about.

Selvala, Heart of the Wilds might fit well.

Maybe some stuff like Phyrexian Soulgorger, Sheltering Ancient and Lupine Prototype to make your commander even cheaper, and these can be food chain'ed away afterwards.

Dunno if anyone has seen this. I love it as a card, but I'm pretty sure it's not competitive.

Outside of a strictly worse Selvala shell.

You're essentially running all the dorks, and some of Selvala's crappy fatties like Phyrexian Soulgorger and Sheltering Ancient to cheat him out. For pure CMD damage, Berserk effects, Wine of Blood and Iron and Nantuko Mentor all help.

I could also see this as a 99 in Xenagod/etc

greyninja cheers! Rhonas will definitely see a place, I just made room for the Hydra, along with some of Selvala's staples - Phyrexian Soulgorger and Sheltering Ancient I don't really care about their age counters since we can just choose to sac them, but getting 8 or 5 power on T1 at the earliest seems great.

HydraCord on Selvala, heart of some serious scary shit

hey it's your boy hydracord from your ap european class. now to make this deck as degenerate as possible to the point where it doesn't become fun anymore.

Colossus of Akros: 18 mana is better funneled into a Genesis Wave.

Courser of Kruphix: You should have a higher density of dorks to get turn 2 Selvala out, and Courser is 2 turns behind on that.

Gyre Sage: Pretty redundant once you have Selvala or your dorks out.

Mistcutter Hydra: Dumb beater that's susceptible to all types of removal.

Protean Hydra: Same deal as Mistcutter Hydra. Most removal spells don't come from damage spells, so it's not going to be immune to most removal.

Chariot of Victory, Fleetfeather Sandals: Concordant Crossroads is better than both of these.

Roar of Challenge: I've never seen this card drawn or played ever. Regardless of that, I don't think it's that good once you go to an LGS since people there have spellslinger decks.

Oran-Rief: Your creatures are fucking huge. You don't need them to be slightly huger.

Tranquil Thicket can just be a basic.

Skyshroud Claim gets significantly worse in a mono-colored deck. Play more dorks instead.

Sheltering Ancient, Phyrexian Soulgorger, Phyrexian Dreadnought, Ravaging Riftwurm: Because a turn 3 Eldrazi Titan is always good.

Vorinclex will end the game more often than not. You can also cast him ridiculously early.

Scryb Ranger, Wirewood Symbiote, Quirion Ranger, Thousand-Year Elixir: I know that you don't wanna play these, but hear me out. Wirewood Lodge is probably one of the scariest cards in your entire deck. Now imagine if you had 5 of them.

Duskwatch Recruiter: Efficient filtering early game and allows you to pump infinite mana into him so you can cast every creature in your deck.

Nykthos, Caged Sun: Do you like ramping? Then play these.

Song of the Dryads is nice removal.

Woodland Bellower: Great toolbox card, but you should probably grab Phyrexian Dreadnought and its friends with it 99% of the time.

Phytoburst, Might of Old Krosa, Invigorate: Buff Selvala, make more mana. Perfectly optional.

Fierce Empath: Tutors for something big and something that'll probably win you the game.

Vigor, while expensive, is a fucking insane card.

Heroic Intervention will save your stuff from wraths, removal, and MLD. Using it for removal is probably the most applicable case, though.

Triumph of the Hordes because there's no kill like overkill.
