Phyrexian Soulgorger Discussion
I would say add:
Negate or Swan Song (probably the later, 1 mana to save lazav in a pinch is a big deal) Snuff Out as well for that free kill when tapped out. Fact or Fiction is a draw spell I like here as is Pull from Tomorrow

Scryfall says there are 7 creatures with 8 or greater power for less than 5 mana (so 4 mana or less, IDK why I decided to do one greater or equal and the other less). Only 3 of them would be good in the deck, but Eater of Days and Phyrexian Soulgorger would be good in addition to Phyrexian Dreadnought.

So, Nulltread was on the consideration block before, but I feel it doesn't offer enough for the drawback it brings. While its true, in an ideal worlds, you already have a BBE on board when you play a nulltread, but the risk of a bolt or revolted push is pretty great, and then you may end up basically wasting 3 mana and a draw. If cascade worked by first having BBE hit the field, then Nulltread, it would be wonderful, and I would have no problem putting it in, but in the likely scenario where it ends up bouncing itself it feels REALLY bad. I could over look that if it had a form of evasion or trample of some kind but for a vanilla creature with a card disadvantage drawback its really hard. I find it to be in a similar vein as Phyrexian Soulgorger. If it just had a keyword it would be incredible.
I do see a scenario where you have temur ascendancy out, and a BBE, and you get the bounce then draw perfectly, but it feels like at that point one of the 4/4s would do slightly worse job, to be better almost 90% of the rest time. If we ever end up into a meta where we need that extra value, it'll certainly go in, but value only gets us so far.
That being said, I deeply appreciate the suggestion, as it helps to really look at cards from all sides now that the deck has found its way into this sorta tempo path.

Cool deck, I've tried to make a Varolz deck before but I wasn't really able to make it work right heh.
First thing I should say is that Unearth isnt legal in modern; I'd consider playing Claim in its place since you have both Vexing Devil and Death's Shadow in your deck. It's a pretty good replacement, you cant reanimate Varolz or the Phyrexian Soulgorger with it but the Fame half and the fact that you can dump it with Faithless Looting if you dont want to dump anything else is worth it, maybe making it even better in this deck. I've seen it work really well in B/R burn decks and some Death's Shadow decks, it adds a lot of explosiveness.
Another suggestion: Rite of Consumption As a 1-of maindeck or a couple in the sideboard. It would add some more explosiveness, a way to deal with planeswalkers, and a life gain spell all in one go.
Now I have a question: is there really much point in playing Gyre Sage? It seems rather underwhelming since you have no mana sinks and no high-cost cards; a lot of your cards require colors other than green, so it seems likely you'd just have a bunch of excess green mana after running out of Black or Red. Without a solid payoff, I just think there are better cards that could go in those slots, like Lotleth Troll or Lightning Bolt or Abrupt Decay. (Also, your deck lacks removal, put some removal in)
Lastly, I have qualms with your sideboard. From what I can tell you just kind of stuck some cards in there, so I'm guessing you either didn't have time or just didn't bother. It'd be nice to see an actual sb if you get around to it :)

Really like the way you built this deck with high-power low CMC green creatures. Phyrexian Soulgorger and Force of Savagery are other options you could try. Elemental Bond and Garruk's Packleader help you draw cards, and Cream of the Crop improves card selection. Traverse the Outlands ramps a lot when you have Grothama or Mossbridge Troll. Druid's Call, Broodhatch Nantuko, and Saber Ants are great for generating tokens from fighting, which you can then upgrade with Emrakul's Evangel anyway.
Bloodspore Thrinax and Oran-Rief, the Vastwood makes your small creatures not so small. Vigor will help grow your creatures permanently, and the price is much lower with the reprint. Overwhelming Stampede and Pathbreaker Ibex turn Grothama's power into trampling power for all your creatures.
I feel like Conjurer's Closet, Dragon Mask, and Mogg Cannon aren't too mana-efficient, and they only draw cards at the end of your turn so you can't use the cards right away. You could add Reliquary Tower since you're already running other cards with that effect.

I agree, lagotripha, Fervor isn't a lot of things, but I haven't found any other close-enoughs to consider.
I've seen Mass Hysteria backfire too many times in this sort of setup to keep it in.
Ashling's Prerogative is one I haven't given too much thought to. Sticking all the creatures on odd sounds like it could be an interesting riff.
