Max_Hammer on Mardu Treasures

Hello friend! I have some suggestions! I had way too much time today, so here you go.

Relatively cheap, potent, and just perfect upgrades.

This bit is, of course, focused on making as many treasures as your board can bear.

Great, now you have all of these treasures, now what are you going to do with them?

  • Frogmite, Lens Flare, Scale of Chiss-Goria, Tooth of Chiss-Goria, Mycosynth Golem, Slag Strider, Furnace Dragon, and Myr Enforcer are all notable cards you could add, since they pretty much become free after a while, though mostly pretty useless.

  • Forsworn Paladin is pretty good token generation early game, but really shines with the second ability where it can instantly punish anyone blocking or attacking you recklessly.

  • Marionette Master is going to pack a punch.

  • Dargo, the Shipwrecker is super cheap for a 7/5 with trample.

  • Enraged Giant, Freejam Regent, Battle at the Bridge, Saheeli's Directive, Herald of Anguish, and Organic Extinction are all pretty solid additions, since they don’t make you sacrifice anything in exchange for it.

  • Ruthless Technomancer has a million combos with (like Dockside Extortionist+sac outlet) and is just pretty good on its own.

  • Leonin Elder is just one life, but when you’re playing a treasure deck, that one life will definitely add up.

  • Underhanded Designs is a murder or a poke engine, which is very snazzy.

  • Glaze Fiend is pretty scary, considering that it has trample.

  • Dragonspark Reactor could be a bit of removal in your back pocket or your wincon.

  • Arcbound Crusher’s design team didn’t anticipate just how many artifacts I was planning on throwing onto the field.

  • Professional Face-Breaker is just like Grim Hireling, in that it makes treasure tokens, but more importantly, it gives you something else. You get a load of impulse draw, which is really nice when you have loads of mana.

  • Magda, Brazen Outlaw is just an artifact tutor, really. Though, there are plenty of treasure loving dragons you could also fish for. (:

  • Kalain, Reclusive Painter loves treasures, giving everyone big buffs.

  • Swashbuckler Extraordinaire can give anything that might be sensitive to dying double strike for a big final push. That, or just give one big boy double strike.

  • Their Number is Legion gets you lots of life and lots of tokens.

  • Necron Overlord is just a worse Ghirapur, but it’s still gonna hurt.

  • Street Urchin is the same idea as the above.

  • Armix, Filigree Thrasher could be some annoying removal, especially early game.

  • Hellkite Igniter is a big boy that, if left unblocked, could be a one hit kill.

  • Feedback Bolt is a big, powerful spell. To put it simply: ouch.

  • Fain, the Broker can make treasures, can make +1/+1’s, and can make little spooky boys. The best type of boys. Great utility and variety overall.

  • Rain of Riches is big. One cascading spell a turn, whichever one you want? Imagine dropping Feedback Bolt and cascading into Hellkite Igniter.

  • Captain Lannery Storm is innocent… Until you leave her unblocked like a dummy.

  • Concussive Bolt can be an easy kill, letting you get as much damage as you want through.

  • Dispense Justice is just like saying “Fuck your voltron.”

  • It seems you also like having and sacrificing constructs, so here’s a bit to let you do more of that, if you’d prefer to have a construct deck over a treasure token deck.

    • Shared Animosity will give constructs a boost, but there really isn’t a specific theme across creature types aside from that, and your constructs are better used for chump blocking or just turning them into scrap. Ignore this if you’re going for more of a construct tribal sort of thing.

    • Fable of the Mirror-Breaker  Flip is a good card, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t think it’s really necessary.

    • Rakdos Charm could be replaced with something better as far as artifact removal or graveyard hate. Nihil Spellbomb would be good graveyard hate and Generous Gift is just a good white staple.

    • Comet Storm is fun, but Crackle with Power is more fun.

Rupture Spire can produce any color of mana for you, even in a colorless EDH deck, however, as you still cannot have any cards with a color identity outside of colorless, you'd be hard pressed to use that to your advantage. You'd need stuff like Sunburst cards. Suncrusher, etc.

When you consider Amulet of Vigor Door to Nothingness isn't that far away :D

The Sunburst Mechanic goes well with 5 color Decks too!

+1 From me, mate! This deck looks baller. Although, boardwipes look lacking. Does Child of Alara do anything for you? If you're looking for mana fixing, may I recommend Pulse of Llanowar and Joiner Adept? since you run 5 colors, maybe sunburst would appeal to you? Suncrusher (My personal favorite, but maybe not viable in this deck)?

To make room, may I suggest cutting Rhystic Study? Before everyone goes apesh!t let me reason: It draws a lot of hate, and since you're behind in terms of taplands, perhaps drawing attention to yourself while being behind aint a great thing, but the two could cancel out.

And finally, you just might need a good old wall. Wall of Fire, Wall of Ice, Moaning Wall. something to prevent you taking damage or making really unfavorable trades. Beautiful deck, may you acquire the shock lands easily and cheaply.

Or if you're playgroup/LGS is cool with it, just make foil alternate art proxies via printer and Scribus.

    ur-maw-gahd...

This hurts my eyes....I'm not a competitive player by any means, but this is soooo all over the place I think most wins/interactions would be pure luck.

I have to give you major props for putting these to Partners together... they lack synergy so much, that's why there's no frame of reference. On the other hand if you force them to have synergy you could have a very unique and fun deck on your hands. I think the only way to do this is with (mostly) artifact creatures that etb with/benefit from +1/+1 counters. Even going this route feels weird without access to blue.

    Anyways...suggestions for the card pool....

Arcbound Crusher, Arcbound Reclaimer, Arcbound Stinger, Etched Oracle, Flowstone Sculpture, Lunar Avenger, Mindless Automaton, Spincrusher, Suncrusher, Triskelion, Mephidross Vampire, Necropolis Regent, Dark Impostor, Death's Presence (stacks with Reyhan), Then for any other idea's I'd start looking at the 3 billion Atraxa Decklists that have popped up this month for stuff like Contagion Engine, Sunscorch Regent or Renegade Krasis or whatever.

Anyways +1 Upvote for bravery on mixing these Partners

Suncrusher enters with 5 counters. Because Selvala can grant any combination of colors, I have access to red, black, blue, and white. A few months back they changed the rule that said "Mana outside your commander's color identity becomes colorless as a state-based action." I already am running Worldspine Wurm, but am still looking to take out Suncrusher, as you are right about it being kind of unwieldly. It becomes significantly better with haste, and if I have infinite mana, I can wipe the board. Otherwise, he just gets killed easily. Probably going to replace it with Upwelling or Primal Command. Thoughts?

I would take out Suncrusher for Worldspine Wurm any day. He only comes in with one counter and it seems like such a waste for a 9 CMC.

    Poozledorf on Hail Stompy!

Hey waspbait, thanks so much for the suggestions. I agree with most - some I agree with less or I feel they require discussion:

    • Kalonian Tusker Agreed. He can go.
    • Nessian Wilds Ravager Agreed. He can probably go except that he's a hydra and i want to be able to say "Hail Stompy!" as many times as possible when playing this deck.
    • Sandsteppe Mastodon Agreed. When play testing this a couple of times i had this in my hand and didn't feel i wanted to play it because of the Llanowar Elves reason. I don't think bolster is good in this deck generally... unless you happen to get it on Sprouting Phytohydra

    • Arbor Colossus I agree that there are probably better ways to deal with flying, HOWEER, I like this card because it is 5 mana for a 6/6 and in order to take best advantage of Selvala, Heart of the Wilds card draw effect i want to continually be playing a card which is just ahead of everyone else's big creature on our collective curve.

    • Rabid Bite / Fade into Antiquity YES.

    • Elemental Bond / Sight of the Scalelords I like.
    • Silvos, Rogue Elemental / Kalonian Twingrove These sound great!. I wasn't quite as keen on Hangarback Walker for some reason... then i realised he is also excellent.

    • Chancellor of the Tangle agreed, not great late game, but SO good early game. This deck gets worse the later you play Selvala, Heart of the Wilds and for the chance to get her out on turn 2 or maybe even turn 1 if you luck in and get your Sol Ring as well as this guy, i wanna keep it. Stamps foot sulkily.

    • Suncrusher / Clearwater Goblet Are you saying that the Commander Rules won't let me use the bit of Selvala, Heart of the Wilds' ability that says "in any combination of colours"?

    • The "needs more ramp" i feel is debatable: If I have the choice between playing a ramp spell and a big dude (which will end up giving you more mana next turn anyway) i play the big dude pretty much every time because I may also draw a card from it if it's the biggest one on the board. I want this deck to be lightning fast. I do, however, like Gyre Sage / Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx as these work within that principle.

    • Doubling Season Gross. Fits better in some other decks actually... and of course there's the $$$$

Thanks again for the comment and YES, please make this deck and let me play it! I also have some of the cards which I could contribute (if you don't already have them). I will do an edit that incorporates some of your suggestions :P
