"Your Debt Has Come Due" (Teysa)

Commander / EDH Casual WB (Orzhov)

HalbrechtHalbrecht

Maybeboard

This version is fairly unoptimized, so suggestions on how to improve it are very welcome!

I tried to group the cards into meaningful categories as well as I could to assist in parsing the decklist.

Also.... your debt has come due.... Teysa requires your +1! ;)

Suggestions

Updates Add

I added a large Maybeboard based on looking at other lists. I haven't yet sifted through all the cards to compare them, and I'm not sure yet whether I'd rather go more toward the Voltron route or the Aristocrats route. Any assistance is appreciated!

Card Cuts

Bloodchief Ascension — This deck isn't really built to ensure consistent life loss to get counters on this, nor consistent mill/discard to trigger the life drain. Not sure why I put it in! Replaced with land #35 -> Command Beacon

Indestructibility — Weak way to grant indestructible. Primarily only needed for Teysa. Replaced with land #36 -> Volrath's Stronghold

Vampire Nighthawk — In original deck just because it was one of my favorite creatures and at the time, I didn't really know what this deck was doing. Replaced with land #37 -> High Market

Brain Maggot — This was always weak hand disruption, as it was too easy for the opponent to get the card back. Replaced with Expedition Map to facilitate getting the Urborg + Coffers combo.

Obzedat, Ghost Council — This ends up being a small, slow life drain from a single opponent. It's too slow and has too little impact on the board. Replaced with Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite.

Buffs

  • Lashwrithe -> Blackblade Reforged — Since this is meant solely for our commander, it always costs 5, comparable to paying 4 and 4 life for Lashwrithe. And since we run a lot of non-Swamps and can't rely on Urborg, +1 per land instead of per swamp is much better.

Mana Base

Ramp

  • Fellwar Stone -> Orzhov Signet
  • Heartless Summoning -> Sol Ring — Heartless is a "non-bo" with my token generators, and since I'm not usually trying to cast more than one creature per turn, it doesn't ramp any more than Sol Ring (which should have been put in my first version anyways! what was I thinking!)

Spot Removal

Wraths

  • Curse of the Cabal -> Day of Judgment — For its suspend cost, it's too easy for opponents to sac irrelevant permanents (and only once every other turn cycle, due to it adding two time counters) in order to avoid the spell. At this cost, I could cast Day of Judgment for full effect. At its full CMC, it's simply too high, only affects one opponent, and still allows too much choice as far as what permanents are kept.
  • In Garruk's Wake -> Hour of Revelation

Ancient Craving — I like the rate of Night's Whisper and Read the Bones better.

Ancient Den, Darksteel Citadel, Vault of Whispers — The only two cards which card about Metalcraft are Indomitable Archangel and Puresteel Paladin. The first was also removed from Maybes (see below), while the latter is nice, but not so important that it's worth weakening the mana base.

Baneslayer Angel, Divinity of Pride — These are just big beaters. They came from a voltron build of this deck, but any remaining voltron elements will only be used with Teysa.

Butcher's Cleaver — This is slightly outclassed by Loxodon Warhammer. Although they cost the same to cast and equip, and are effectively the same when equipped to Teysa, Warhammer is more useful if I ever have to equip it to another creature besides Teysa.

Gilded Lotus — As a two-color deck, we don't need the mana fixing so bad as to include a 5-drop mana rock that only produces 1. I'd rather run Thran Dynamo.

Indomitable Archangel — There's a couple other effects to protect artifacts. It's not so important that I wanted to limit myself with the Metalcraft restriction.

Myriad Landscape — Too slow. It essentially costs 4 mana to get one extra land into play. I also don't like the "must share a basic land type" restriction.

Orzhova, the Church of Deals — I already have too many other colorless sources contending for slots, and the effect from this land isn't strong enough. Maybe if it cost only 3... or drained from each opponent instead of just one...

Sorin, Solemn Visitor — Per comments below, he doesn't add much value in this deck that isn't achievable with other cards.

Tymna the Weaver — This deck isn't built around attacking multiple opponents at once.
