Proper Burial

Enchantment

Whenever a creature you control is put into a graveyard from play, you gain life equal to that creature's toughness.

Deck Updates

These are changes based on game testing and new cards I think will improve the deck significantly. My goals are to increase the synergy but also the flow of the deck.

Cards I took out: - Athreos, God of Passage / I prefer creatures in the graveyard - Liesa, Forgotten Archangel / I prefer creatures in the graveyard - Syr Konrad, the Grim / Doesn't trigger enough for my taste - Wrath of God / I've noticed that board whipping is less effective than I thought in this deck and out of both Damnation Will be easier to cast with our mana production - Dictate of Erebos / As good as this card is Grave Pact does it for less. Additionally, I have never used its flash ability

Cards I put in: - Archaeomancer's Map / Better ramp - Blade of Selves / Myriad is crazy in this deck and can lead to quick victories or even infinite combos (which usually lead to victory) - Mondrak, Glory Dominus / This card is WAY TOO GOOD in this deck. It double tokens! It's a sacrifice outlet that makes it indestructible!! Also it combos infinitely with Blade of Selves and Ratadrabik of Urborg - Boromir, Warden of the Tower / This card alone is really good but it combos infinitely with Ratadrabik of Urborg and can be a powerful combo with cards like Grave Pact and Proper Burial - Gandalf the White / Double death triggers means double tokens with Ratadrabik of Urborg or quick wins with cards like Kokusho, the Evening Star

Things to change in the Future - Currently trying to fit "Samwise the Southearted" and "The Golden Throne" into the deck for a few additional mana combos / stabilize the mana production. - I might try to fit in "Dictate of Erebos" if possible...

DarkKnightCuron on White Soldier Deck for Commander, …

Good Afternoon, Hope everyone is doing well.

I've amassed the following cards for specifically a soldier-themed deck, but I'm having trouble narrowing down the list for an appropriate deck, so I'd like to request advice and assistance. The general idea was to summon a bunch of soldier tokens, buff them, defeat opponents, but I keep stumbling into cards that would be 'cool' or 'awesome' with the theme. Here are the cards I am looking at:

Legendary Cards (Potential Commanders) Akroma, Vision of Ixidor (Synergy with Odric) Baird, Steward of Argive (Good delay) Brimaz, King of Oreskos (Cheap commander that produces soldiers) Darien, King of Kjeldor (decent way of making soldiers, expensive) Keleth, Sunmane Familiar (only for partner) Lena, Selfless Champion Mikaeus, the Lunarch Nahiri, the Lithomancer Odric, Lunarch Marshal Odric, Master Tactician Prava of the Steel Legion Thalia, Heretic Cathar Trynn, Champion of Freedom

Normal Cards Abzan Falconer (synergy with Mikaeus) Adaptive Automaton (buffs soldiers) Ainok Bond-Kin (synergy with Mikaeus) Ancestral Blade (2 for a 2/2 creature seems good, especially if I can re-assign it to Auriok Steelshaper) Angel's Feather (Life gain) Angel's Grace (emergency + synergy with Darien)(Isochron Scepter) Anointed Procession (Double tokens, yes) Anointer Priest (life gain for tokens, seems good) Auriok Steelshaper (seems like good synergy with the equipment in the deck, if they're included. Otherwise, might toss this out) Aven Brigadier (Might toss this) Aysen Crusader (P/T based on soldiers? Yes please) Ballyrush Banneret (cheaper soldier spells) Basri Ket (Synergy with Abzan Falconer and Ainok Bond-Kin)(Produces Soldier Tokens) Benalish Commander (Roundabout way of producing soldiers) Bounty Agent (Neat way of dealing with certain cards) Call the Coppercoats (Produces soldiers) Captain of the Watch (Produces soldiers, buffs soldiers) Captain's Call (Produces soldiers) Catapult Master (Neat way of exiling enemy creatures) Cenn's Enlistment (produces soldiers, retrace) Commanding Presence (roundabout way of producing soldiers) Conclave Phalanx (can easily be a free creature + free life gain) Congregate (good life gain) Conqueror's Pledge (produces soldiers) Coordinated Barrage (meshes with soldiers well. Isochron Scepter) Crusader of Odric (can get really tough and powerful, might be worth cutting though) Daru Stinger (Could be really potent) Daru Warchief (cheaper spells, buffs soldiers, seems good) Dawn of Hope (good synergy with life gains, produces soldiers with lifelink) Daysquad Marshal (produces 1 soldier token, only really good with other buffs/cost reductions) Decree of Justice (mostly just to cycle it) Deploy to the Front (Great way of expanding ranks of soldiers) Devout Invocation (This is basically a win condition) Door of Destinies (buffs soldiers) Elspeth Tirel (makes soldiers, gain life, emergency nuke) Elspeth, Knight-Errant (makes soldiers, indestructable emblem) Elspeth, Sun's Champion (produces soldiers, cool emblem) Elspeth, Sun's Nemesis (makes soldiers or gain life, neat concept) Enlistment Officer (Good way of thinning the deck) Entrapment Maneuver (produces soldiers while protecting yourself, smidge situational) Erase (cheap removal. Isochron Scepter) Evangel of Heliod (produces soldiers, potential for lots of soldiers) Even the Odds (Nice way of getting emergency troops) Fairgrounds Warden (cool removal) Field Marshal (buffs soldiers) Fiend Binder (cool removal) Finale of Glory (basically a win condition) First Response (Nice way of benefitting from small attackers, I think) Garrison Cat (produces 1 soldier token, effectively replacing itself, might be worth cutting) Gideon, Ally of Zendikar (only really here for the emblem and possibly getting buffed on attacks) Gift of Estates (Land is always a problem for me, good deck thinning) Glorious Anthem (buff) God-Favored General (produces soldiers, albeit a bit expensive) Haazda Marshal (neat soldier producer, makes lifelink soldiers) Hero of Bladehold (battlecry + soldier producer, great with Haazda Marshal) Holy Day (defensive spell, Isochron Scepter) Honor of the Pure (buff) Hunted Witness (replaces itself with a soldier, cheap, might cut though) Intangible Virtue (buffs tokens) Intrepid Hero (Great removal, lots of great memories, nostalgic for me, etc) Isochron Scepter (Keep using certain Instants as needed) Join the Ranks (a bit expensive but makes soldiers) Journey to Nowhere (removal) Keeper of the Accord (really cool card, definitely helps with soldiers and lands) Knight-Captain of Eos (basically a holy day by sacrificing a soldier, seems really good) Land Tax (Land is always a problem) Launch the Fleet (produces soldiers, great with Odric, Haazda Marshal, Hero of Bladehold, Brimaz, etc) Leyline of the Meek (Neat little buff) Lieutenants of the Guard (neat mechanic, might cut) Loxodon Partisan (battlecry, might cut) Loyal Sentry (neat concept, cheap) Makeshift Battalion (diet battlecry) Marble Diamond (might be good) Marshal's Anthem (neat card, might be beneficial in a pinch) Martial Coup (great removal + producing soldiers) Mentor of the Meek (card draw from soldiers) Militia Bugler (decent deck-thinning, might cut since its only top four) Militia's Pride (produces soldiers, lots of good synergy) Mobilization (decent buff, built-in soldier producer, tad expensive) Mother of Runes (utility, might cut) Murder Investigation (neat little way of producing soldiers, depends) Ninth Bridge Patrol (neat way of benefitting from tokens getting destroyed) Nomads' Assembly (huge potential) Oath of Lieges (Land is always a problem) Oathsworn Giant (expensive, but decent buff) Oblivion Ring (Removal) Omen of the Sun (produces soldiers, little life gain, scry later, flash, generally good) Palace Guard (cool card) Paragon of New Dawns (buffs soldiers) Path to Exile (Removal) Patrol Signaler (roundabout way of producing soldiers, might cut) Pay No Heed (cheap defense, Isochron Scepter) Pearl Medallion (cheaper spells is always better) Pennon Blade (make something huge, kinda expensive though, might cut) Phantom General (buffs tokens) Precinct Captain (cheap, produces soldiers for attacking, decent synergy) Preeminent Captain (free cast, depending upon circumstances, decent synergy) Proper Burial (decent life gain) Raise the Alarm (cheap soldiers, Isochron Scepter) Ranger of Eos (only useful if I have a lot of cheap creatures) Reborn Hero (neat concept, can bring it back) Rebuff the Wicked (neat counter) Recruit the Worthy (cheap soldiers, Isochron Scepter) Recruiter of the Guard (decent search) Remember the Fallen (might cut, decent card) Resurrection (decent way of bringing back an expensive creature) Return to the Ranks (potentially free method of bringing cards back) Reverent Hoplite (potentially lots of soldiers) Rhox Pikemaster (Decent buff) Righteous Cause (Decent buff, tad expensive) Riot Control (neat life gain, defense) Rootborn Defenses (defense, makes a soldier, neat) Safe Passage (defense) Selfless Squire (interesting utility, might cut) Sergeant-at-Arms (can create soldiers, seems expensive though) Shielded Passage (neat little defense, Isochron Scepter) Sol Ring (obvious reasons) Soul Parry (decent defense, Isochron Scepter) Soul Snare (neat way to keep up devotion + have something on hand to deal with a creature) Soulmender (cheap creature, life gain, might cut) Standing Troops (decent card, might cut) Stormfront Riders (expensive way of producing soldiers, flying, might cut) Strata Scythe (make something huge, might cut) Strength of Arms (decent way of making soldiers, Isochron Scepter) Sword of the Meek (decent way of bringing it back from graveyard, might cut though) Sworn Companions (lifelink soldiers) Terminus (nice clutch card) Thraben Standard Bearer (cheap soldier, can be good for creating defenders in a pinch) Timely Reinforcements (neat for emergencies) True Conviction (huge buff) Unified Strike (exile based on number of soldiers, isochron scepter) Unruly Mob (might cut) Valor (easy way to get first strike) Veteran Armorer (buff, might cut) Veteran Armorsmith (buff, might cut) Veteran Swordsmith (buff, might cut) Veteran's Armaments (decent synergy, might cut) War Report (good life gain) Wing Shards (neat card, might cut) Worship (synergizes with Darien)

Lands Drifting Meadow (cycling) Emeria, The Sky Ruin (awesome card if I can get 7 plains) Karoo (neat little card, not sure if worth it) 28x Plains New Benalia (neat card, not sure if worth it) Nykthos, Shrine of Nyx (white deck, probably a good call) Secluded Steppe (cycling)

Thank you for your time and attention.

Topherito on Lifegain for pain

Hey, just popped in from reddit. So I'm not gonna lie, I spent alot of time writing out a really thoughtful response and my internet timed out and erased it all. So this may just he the cliffsnotes lol. Overall, you have a great list for lifegain and it's good to see the staples that should be there like Sanguine Bond, Exquisite Blood, and Exsanguinate. I could never find a way to generate the mana and tutor these guys out to the battlefield save a couple times where I was lucky, so that may be something I might look into because it really is a powerful game ending combo. I also appreciate you not using Oloro as commander for lifegain and got to see some cards I've never heard of or even thought to include in your list, specifically Angelic Chorus and Proper Burial. Which brings me to my suggestions, I tried to stay away from uber expensive cards that cEDH decks might require and still lend some quality assistance. Luminarch Ascension is a 2 CMC drop card that generates tokens in the form of 4/4 flyers and it works better with the more opponents you have as it collects its quest counters quicker. I always think lifegain needs the defense where it can get it so it can build a base to keep generating more life and set itself up and this card works great. Not to mention it works well with Proper Burial and Angelic Chorus. Speaking of ETBs, why wait for your creatures when you can use your opponents for lifegain with Authority of the Consuls. Now say someone counters your Sanguine Bond or whatever other combo you may have needed, Elixir of Immortality is a cheap low CMC artifact that gives you 5 life and recurs your graveyard back into your deck. Panharmonicon doubles your effects I believe as well but I need to double check that and just thought of it. Lastly, my most expensive recommendation at like 12 dollars, is Archangel of Thune. She is 5 CMC and can become a monster real quick in your deck if she isnt dealt with. At this point I put in a whole thing about mana rocks. They effectively speed up your turn by increasing your mana base, so you can do turn 5 things on turn 4. The signet is nice and sol ring is auto include, but talismans are strictly better than signers in my book and only a couple bucks. For your colors, Talisman of Hierarchy is best but you can use any of the ones with white or black in them, they just wont be as good as hierarchy. Finally, I wouldnt be doing you any justice if I didnt add some game breaking cheese from my current list. Say you have either Angelic Chorus or Proper Burial on the field. With a card like Entomb or Buried Alive or any discard cards could work but not as ideal, bury Leonin Relic-Warder from your deck. Then resurrect him with Dance of the Dead, Necromancy, or Animate Dead, use Leonin's ETB effect to exile the card which revived him, thus burying/sacrificing him, thus bringing the revive card back from exile so that you can bring Leonin back from the dead, this loops for an infinity thus triggering proper burial and/or angelic chorus and giving you infinite life. Anyways those are my suggestions, I hope they help, best of luck, and have fun playing!

Grind on The Final Destination (The Afterlife)

hi, I like your deck! I have a couple suggestions:
Esper Panorama > Warped Landscape
i would consider High Market over or in addition to Miren, the Moaning Well.
I like Mirrorpool in theory but ive found i like never actually use its ability and it ETBs tapped - so i like Temple of the False God for 2x the mana and etb untapped...
your removal selection is really good already..
Proper Burial feels like an, "if you're winning win more" card to me but idk.
given that you are sacrificing your creatures i feel like you could have a little more recursion... i like Phyrexian Reclamation and Unburial Rites.
also i would consider just a little more card draw in general, i like Promise of Power, Ambition's Cost, Skeletal Scrying, Phyrexian Arena. but i've never played your deck so idk maybe you usually have enough cards.
anyway those are my thoughts, hope they are helpful and keep on having fun!

any reason for no Ashnod's Altar? Also should be waaay more fast mana. I'd include Talisman of Hierarchy,Mind Stone,Commander's Sphere,Thought Vessel,Orzhov Signet,Worn Powerstone and Arcane Signet. I'd take out a few enchantments like Haunted Crossroads and Proper Burial for some better effects like Victimize,Animate Dead and Blind Obedience.

I would also suggest cutting some generic "goodstuff" cards for more synergy and to make room for the rocks.

Cruel Celebrant is better in the deck than Wurmcoil and Grim Haruspex is better than Erebos.

The deck seems pretty powerful once it gets going, but any early interaction and it doesn't feel very resilient.

Yo, its rad you want to play competitive, but why are you tagging a "It's still in its infancy and definitely a work in progress - suggestions are more than welcome!" deck as competitive? Almost as bad as people that tag their decks with primers and have 3 sentences.

First, rocks. Mana Crypt Chrome Mox Mox Diamond Mana Vault Talisman of Dominance and other color talismans. If you can't go faster than your opponent, they will simply win first. There's a reason almost every competitive commander deck runs these cards

Second, remove non-essential garbage cards. Why do you run Proper Burial ? Anything that doesn't actively help you win but rather sustains a game is (usually) a bad card. Anything that costs >5 mana you should also consider cutting because its either bad or you can do it for cheaper, Sepulchral Primordial Agent of Treachery Rise of the Dark Realms etc. As we talked about earlier with rocks, competitive EDH goes REAL fast, so you won't get to 9 mana to cast your big spell (that doesn't even win on resolution) without fast mana, which you don't run.

Third, replace bad interaction with cheaper more reliable interaction. Render Silent is pretty cool but it costs 3 mana for a counterspell, and it is extremely color intensive. Dissolve is also 3 mana and that simply doesn't cut it in competitive. Look at Dispel Swan Song Force of Will Pact of Negation Force of Negation Mana Leak Spell Pierce . Also look at your removal, Merciless Eviction is cool and flexible but not a competitive card, because it costs 6 mana to wipe. You should consider running better targeted removal too, like Doom Blade and Fragmentize

TL;DR Replace high mana cost cards with lower ones to reduce amount of dead cards in hand at all points of game.
