Maybeboard

Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge deck focussed around a heavy glut of instant and sorceries and recasting Jeleva multiple times. Frequently Jeleva will be cast at costs of ~14 mana, and I need to find more consistent ways of making sure it happens. But somehow it does. There's a heavy necessity of Haste so might look at including that more, but it's generally in non-spell ways. In the Web of War/ Swiftfoot Boots might find it's way in here more. It's definitely a more competitive deck and very fun to pilot, but not something to be pulled out every commander night

The Battleplan

Cast Jeleva. Use everything tasty from the ETB trigger, than kill/ sac her and do it some more. Use the large amount of Spot removal and board wipes to keep the board in check. If ever anything steals Jeleva or incapacitates her, hit her first with the large amount of sac outlets and spot removal. Frequently in decks with self mill/ huge card draw they can very quickly be milled out, so there are a few targeted mill/ graveyard exile to help against those. Otherwise eventual commander damage seems to be the other win for the deck.

Mana Base

  • Opal Palace can get out of hand with the amount of times that Jeleva will be cast.
  • Explorer's Scope can hit our non-basic lands. it's a real treat but our only real "mana ramp". Considering adding in more but struggle to find nice U/B/R mana ramp instant/ sorceries. May look at basic landcycling but can't be done through Jeleva.

Synergies & Notable Cards

Testing

  • Molten Slagheap can let us store mana up for later when we need to cast Jeleva more, but I'm very iffy on storage lands. See how I feel
  • Murderous Spoils is expensive in hand and can sometimes completely wiff. Most equipment players will have greaves or boots to protect their creature before anything else. It can sometimes grab odd things, but yet to do it reliably. Also the non-black can cause real problems
  • Blastfire Bolt same as above, but instead to destroy. Getting tested out.
  • Decree of Pain is a great board wipe for this deck, but the card draw is actually unwanted.
  • Sudden Spoiling is a great card when mixed with the damage board wipes, but it is a 1BB tax on top. Also won't hit enchanted indestructible creatures.
  • Mnemonic Nexus can be really important to hit ourself, sometimes to hit self mill decks that have got out of hand, but it can also ruin our mill strategy. Still deciding.
  • Preordain is cheap and cheerful for doing before casting Jeleva to ensure we hit nicer things. But eeeeh~ could be better.
  • Psychic Intrusion is great to be cast with jeleva, but iffy when cast without. It has good and bad points but is under consideration.
  • Mind Grind fits in with the mill idea, but something that's getting tested out. Will see if it's worth it.
  • Spellweaver Volute is one of those cards that I love the idea of, but still waiting for it to wow me.
  • Spellbinder can be difficult to get going. Again I want it to work so much but have to see how it plays out.
  • Isochron Scepter suffers from the same problem as Spellbinder, except that the instant card must be CMC2 or less (Brainstorm, Altar's Reap, Malicious Affliction, Rapid Hybridization & Rakdos Charm can be hit but that's it. Eeeeeh)
  • Sensei's Diving Top can be used to stall instant/Sorceries until needed but can be mana intensive. Feel like Crystal Ball may be better.
  • Talrand, Sky Summoner just got added and is neat but waiting to see how much I like it. Could be that the board wipes just ruin it.
  • Dragonskull Summit is iffy as there are so many non-basic lands in this that it's rare it doesn't come in as a tapped land

Notable Exceptions

  • Counterspells are purposely removed from this deck. They're terrible to hit with Jeleva and we'd rather just destroy whatever happens/ rebuild if we have to. Definitely a me decision that could be built differently.
  • Reverberate, Twincast are wonderful in this deck and great under isochron scepter, but very annoying if caught under Jeleva. They might go back in depending on how I feel as they can hit very big spells that we cast. Howl of the Horde is the only exception due to allowing us to trigger from the attack.
