Meletis Charlatan Discussion

Vasseer on MagicalHacker - List of All 2-Card Infinite Combos

Infinite Reflection doesn't go infinite with any of the indicated cards as far as I can tell (doesn't affect tokens).

Wake Thrasher gets infinite power with Tidewater Minion and Aphetto Alchemist, (while all the cards are listed, the combo isn't)

Filigree Sages makes infinite mana with Prismatic Geoscope

Worldgorger Dragon makes infinite mana with Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker (again cards are there combo isn't)

Seedcradle Witch makes infinite mana with Bloom Tender

Palinchron makes infinite mana with Mana Flare and Heartbeat of Spring

Aetherwind Basker makes infinite energy and combat steps with Lightning Runner

Reality Spasm makes infinite mana with Meletis Charlatan, Echo Mage, Reiterate, Mischievous Quanar and probably a bunch of other cards I can't remember.

I would definitely have 5+ consistent ways to copy instants/sorceries, because she gets crazy with them. I specifically added ones that I don't think are listed on EDHREC for her:

+1ed. Great idea with all the fork type spells. Heres a few others that might fit well with what u have going on. Mirari, Meletis Charlatan and or Echo Mage

Bro, what? How would Meletis Charlatan turn burn into a mirror match?

Shoot. You're right, I didn't think about Naked Singularity being illegal either. As for Goblin Game, I already bought the card, so I will probably keep it in there until I get to the "ugh, this card" mindset, then I will take it out. I played with what I had with my brother today (only had like 88 of the cards, I should be getting the rest tomorrow or in the mail next week). I cast Fascination for X being 8, copied it with Meletis Charlatan, and did not account for the traded Alhammarret's Archive under my control. With only 50ish cards left in the deck I drew 32 of them, which with all the extra card draw already on the field ended up costing me the game. It was hugely fun though.

Regarding your question, it's actually pretty relevant to me right now. I played a EDH match against two friends 2 days ago. I was playing Mizzix of the Izmagnus and had forced myself to not put in any infinite combos, the only tutor in the deck is Firemind's Foresight (which came with the precon). While for most of the game I wasn't being able to do much because everything I played got kinda instakilled... in the end I managed to play Expropriate and copy it with Meletis Charlatan... this lead to me taking a couple of extra turns, and eventually kinda storming for the win.

While I was happy to win the game, my friends pointed out they rather not have me play this deck too often (or to be more precise, if I bring it back they'll aim for my head from the start). The reason is not because they lost, but because to win I played alone for like 20 minutes without them being able to do anything (turns out when playing a game people like to actually play the game and not be a bystander).

And that's fine by me. I was happy that I could cast the cards I wanted and that the win was through storm. I won't mind changing the deck now or playing it very rarely... the thing I love the most when playing EDH is not winning per se, but seeing interactions/strategies I haven't seen before in our games... and I'm certainly not going to jeopardise friendship because of a deck.

Hey, I like your deck. I have a similar "make the opponents punch each other to death"-deck with Vial Smasher and Sidar Kondo as the generals, and the political aspect is a lot of fun.

Anyway, from that experience I would like to suggest a couple of cards you may want to think about.

On the defensive side, Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker is an incredible rattlesnake. Dissipation Field is also OK, unless your meta has a lot of one-hit kills, in which case it can still convince them to save you for last. Less powerful but way more hilarious is Illusionist's Gambit.

If you want to play up the "please beat each other to death" angle, Fumiko the Lowblood, Grand Melee and since you're ramping so hard Avatar of Slaughter are all options to make things interesting quickly. Bitter Feud is also a flavourful card that doesn't risk harming you in any way and aids your opponents' demise.

If there's ever been a deck for it, this must be the one. Mercadia's Downfall will punish all of your opponents for those fancy lands you've been giving them, and you can play in on someone else's turn since it's attacking creatures and not yours. It's a one-time surprise, but I bet you most people will never have even heard of the card. Expanding on the theme, Sylvan Offering would work well both with this and with Gahiji.

Speaking of things being one-time, since you mention Treacherous Terrain as your main win condition, it might be nice to cast it multiple times. You have Archaeomancer and Eternal Witness already, but you could consider Izzet Chronarch, Mnemonic Wall and Anarchist for more castings. A more widely useful option is Greenwarden of Murasa. A more slow-and-steady plan could involve Charmbreaker Devils.

You can also use these guys with Mistmeadow Witch to get the spells back any number of times, and if you feel your mana base can support the colourless requirement, Eldrazi Displacer.

To cast it twice for more burst damage, you could include Riku of Two Reflections, who is also an all-round solid value guy, or cards like Dualcaster Mage or Meletis Charlatan. Again more funny than realistic, but these guys with Reins of Power can also let you make any two players' armies fight, with you and the defending player cooperating to have as many of both as possible killed.

I hope this gives you some ideas, at least. :)
