Krenko, Mob Boss cEDH


Introduction Show

This deck is a very fast combo deck. We basically want to achieve the following three things.

  1. Put Krenko, Mob Boss on the field asap
  2. Get some sort of haste enabler
  3. Achieve a sacrifice/damage loop or create bazillions of Goblin-Tokens and swing for the win

The deck is build to combo-off very early, with plenty of redundancy. You've got a couple of cards in this list to protect your combo. I'll explain each part of the deck’s engine in detail down below along with all known infinite combos available.

Feel free to add more protection or hate when you need it in your playgroup.

Mana Base Show

Land cards

I use every "fast" fetch land available for red Arid Mesa, Bloodstained Mire, Prismatic Vista and Scalding Tarn along with Wooded Foothills to allow you to shuffle your deck, remove dead cards following a Sensei's Divining Top activation or reshuffle your stacked deck because of an early Goblin Recruiter. Playing fetch lands in a mono-coloured deck helps to reduce the overall number of lands in the library later in the game and increase the odds of drawing the card you want rather than a land.

Ancient Tomb provides ramp early game. Get Krenko on the board asap. (Remember Rule 1)

Buried Ruin you can use a combo artifact card again that has found its way into your graveyard.

Cavern of Souls protect your Goblins.

Crystal Vein provides ramp early game. Get Krenko on the board asap. (Remember Rule 1)

Darksteel Citadel to more consistently hit metalcraft for Mox Opal and give Goblin Engineer a target.

Dwarven Ruins provides ramp early game. Get Krenko on the board asap. (Remember Rule 1)

Great Furnace to more consistently hit metalcraft for Mox Opal and give Goblin Engineer a target.

Inventors' Fair a tutor for a combo artifact

Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx late game ramp

Sandstone Needle provides ramp early game. Get Krenko on the board asap. (Remember Rule 1)

Strip Mine to get rid of pesky lands your opponent plays

Wastelandto get rid of pesky lands your opponent plays

19x Snow-Covered Mountain

Ramp cards Nearly every of the ramp cards are high $$$ cards. Feel free to use cheaper options, there are plenty available but at the price of some speed. The fast ramp cards in alphabetical order are Chrome Mox, Mox Diamond, Mana Crypt, Grim Monolith, Mana Vault, Mox Opal and obviously a Sol Ring.

Creature ramp Dockside Extortionist let us ramp off all those early artifacts everyone has played. This card can accelerate our win really early.

Treasonous Ogre pay life for This can let you use life for very explosive turns.

Optional cards Extraplanar Lens this card depends on your playgroup. I suggest to switch it for in for Mox Opal and get rid of your artifact lands (Darksteel Citadel and Great Furnace) and use Mountain or Snow-Covered Mountain (depending on your playgroup)

Card draw Show

Well card draw isn't the best in red at all.

We use some fast wheel effects Reforge the Soul and Wheel of Fortune to get our tutors or combo pieces! From time to time we can try to screw with our opponents after they all tutored win-cons or removal and you wheel them straight into the bin.

Faithless Looting is a nice low-cost returnable card if we want to get rid of some dead cards in hand.

Including Skullclamp in a token deck is basically a must.to attach and to draw two cards is very powerful.

Hate cards Show

Blood Moon is great and powerful enchantment in EDH, where most people run multicolored decks. The benefits of restricting your opponents versus the little drawback of switching off your ownutility lands is very worthwhile.

Price of Gloryis a great tool that works kinda stealthy because you don't really know what your enemys are't casting. And they pay double (mana + land) if they use spell outside of theyr own turn.

Tutors Show

Tutors are a weak spot in mono red. But we are totaly able to work with what we've got.

Goblin Engineer tutor for an artifact (given they all are cmc and below) and put them in the graveyard for easy recursion.

Goblin Matron tutor for a Goblin as she enters the battlefield. The typical target for this is Skirk Prospector or a Haste enabler.

Goblin Recruiter tutor for any number of Goblins and put them on the top of our deck. This can be very broken, allowing us to stack the remainder of the game's draws.

Imperial Recruiter a great tutor for every creature >2 power. Typically looking to bring Skirk Prospector or Treasonous Ogre into play.

Utility cards Show

Altar of Dementia another sac outlet and alternate win-con, if we can't win with damage somehow

Battle Hymn and Brightstone Ritual are used to generate lots of mana and combo-off (both work with Isochron Scepter)

Chaos Warp our only way to remove enchantments!

Final Fortune and Warrior's Oath to get a second turn and finish the game.

Goblin Chirurgeon a sac-outlet which protects creatures from boardwipes.

Isochron Scepter to give us some reusability of different cards.

Pyroblast and Red Elemental Blast are used to protect against pesky blue players.

Reverberate duplicate one of our spells or one from an enemy or use it with Isochron Scepter.

Sensei's Divining Top to ensure your draw.

Combos Show

This deck has massive amount of combo potential. Down below I just want to list the key elements for an engine to start running. The most combos come down to: Krenko, Mob Boss + Sac Outlet + Untap ability. For an instant win, you can either choose one of the direct damage cards or one of the haste enablers for infinite combat damage.

There are many many more combo lines to achieve for example: Goblin Sharpshooter + Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Thornbite Staff Equip Thornbite Staff to Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker to make it work. Use Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker to copy Goblin Sharpshooter. The original shoots a player for one damage, the copy shoots itself. The copy dies, thereby untapping both the original Goblin Sharpshooter and Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker. Rinse and repeat to kill off everybody.
