Scourge Servant

Creature — Phyrexian Zombie

Infect (This creature deals damage to creatures in the form of -1/-1 counters and to players in the form of poison counters.)

Mortlocke on New hubs to be added

Hello legendofa,

I propose a new hub to be added: Phyrexian. During Modern Horizons 2, 225 creatures were retconned into having the Phyrexian creature subtype to join Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider . Additionally, there were a smattering of Enchantments, Artifacts and etc that ether have the Phyrexian subtype or create creature tokens that do. Thanks to this retcon I now have a deck that has a Phyrexian tribal theme. For your reference, below is a full list of spells that were affected by WotC's Phyrexian errata.

dragonstryke58 on Toralf & damage trough -1/-1 …

I think the mix up the OP has is because infect and wither have similar results as the replacement effect of Soul-Scar Mage.

Infect:

  • 702.89c Damage dealt to a creature by a source with infect isn’t marked on that creature. Rather, it causes that source’s controller to put that many -1/-1 counters on that creature.

Wither:

  • 702.79a Wither is a static ability. Damage dealt to a creature by a source with wither isn’t marked on that creature. Rather, it causes that source’s controller to put that many -1/-1 counters on that creature.

The defining difference is that infect and wither are static abilities that modify the game rules so that damage dealt is in the form of -1/-1 counters, and Soul-Scar Mage's ability is a replacement effect that changes damage into -1/-1 counters. The reminder text for both infect and wither also state that the damage to creatures is in the form of -1/-1 counters (meaning the -1/-1 counters for both infect and wither count as damage).

To further expand on Neotrup's comment:

Technically, if you had a Scourge Servant fight a 1/1 saproling token with Blood Feud with Toralf, God of Fury  Flip on the field, Toralf, God of Fury  Flip would still deal 2 damage to any target. As a side note though, the damage that Toralf, God of Fury  Flip deals would not be infect damage as he is the source of the damage for his trigger.

You seem to be trying to do too many things at once. I see you have some Zombie boosting cards, a couple you are missing would be Lord of the Undead, Paragon of Open Graves, and Zombie Master. Master doesn't boost but it does make all Zombies unblockable when combined with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth or Blanket of Night. Adaptive Automaton is good too.

Other cards you can use to boost your Zombies are Caged Sun which should be an automatic inclusion in any Mono color deck. Hall of Triumph, Door of Destinies, and Obelisk of Urd.

Coat of Arms effects the entire board, like Bad Moon so you have to weigh the benefits to your deck.

Personally I prefer running Ghoulcaller Gisa as the Commander and just keeping Mikaeus, the Unhallowed in the 99 for combo reasons. You already have Triskelion for the combo with Mikaeus.

Phyrexian Dreadnought combos with Gisa. You can choose to not sacrifice any of your creatures when it enters the battlefield and in response to the sacrifice trigger, use Gisa's ability to sacrifice it. It gives you 24 power of Zombies. Remember, anything you kill, you AT LEAST double your overall power from that creature. A 2/2 Zombie gets you two 2/2, so you turn 2 Power into a nice 4 Power. That isn't factoring any boosting the sacrificed creature had and any the new Zombies will receive.

Gravecrawler is just a great Zombie to have, you are already running Skullclamp that combos so well with him. Unbreathing Horde. Soulless One. Sheoldred, Whispering One couldn't hurt.

If you like Infect, Blackcleave Goblin, Hand of the Praetors, Scourge Servant, Toxic Nim. Glistening Oil is an Enchantment that will bounce back to your hand when the creature dies, really good on Tokens. If one of your creatures goes unblocked or they are unblockable, Tainted Strike can get you the kill.

I see you are running Ashnod's Altar + Grave Titan , the only piece you are missing to make the infinite combo is Nim Deathmantle. What you do is cast Grave Titan, sacrifice one of the Zombie tokens to Ashnod's Altar, then sacrifice Grave Titan to the Altar. Use the you got from Ashnod's to activate the ability of Nim Deathmantle and return Grave Titan to the Battlefield. Repeat this process until infinite.

Exquisite Blood + Sanguine Bond is an infinite kill combo for Mono Black.

Grave Pact is awesome because it kills your opponents stuff while enhancing your board state. Whip of Erebos is good for extreme life gain.

I'm not sure what kind of budget you have but Extraplanar Lens + Snow-Covered Swamp is a good way to boost your mana as well. The Swamps are less than a Dollar each so you could replace every Basic Swamp with Snow-Covered for probably less than $20.

You know at this point I'm rambling. Mono Black is my favorite single color, Zombies are my favorite Tribe. The more I talk the more I'm just trying to turn your deck into mine.

P.S. Thornbite Staff goes infinite with Gisa. I love ZOMBIES!!
