I wanted to help more than what I said the other day so I thought about this deck and it does seem extremely slow. There's a couple ways you can go about this. There's an infinite combo with Golem Foundry based around Banishing Knack + Battered Golem + Memnite the combo is you keep returning and recasting an artifact an infinite amount of times giving you an infinite amount of change counters.

The other route you could go would be to take out the Golem Foundry and just focus on the splicer creatures like Blade Splicer Darksteel Splicer Master Splicer and Wing Splicer using cards that blink them in and out like Soulherder or Ephemerate this would also give you more golem creature tokens while using much less Mana than to slowly charge up your Golem Foundry I really hope this helps

Thanks for the comments!

Wow. After looking at that burn deck I understand what sergiodelrio was getting at. I think I was being a naïve. That other mono-red hollow deck looks pretty interesting though and probably more our level/slightly above.

The deck below is a rough outline of what I can remember for a white deck I put together. I think its fun because I plays differently in a lot of situations. The amounts aren't exact. There is some other stuff in there I can't remember like a life boost (I think a creature or two that gives life upon sacrifice). For deck building we generally build with what we already have (I have bought specific cards before to be really annoying such as Armageddon). So I typically don't have enough cards to reliably power combo, though its likely I'm not clever enough yet to recognize the potential with what I have. To compete against this he usually whips out a blue deck with tons of counters, clones, and stealing. They are roughly even. A red deck in the theme of burn has also been used (mana vaults, sol rings, fireballs and goblin gernades etc).

Creatures Kor Skyfisher x 3-4 Wall of Omens x 2 Crumbling Colossus x 2 Master Splicer x 2 Razor Golem x 1 Soltari Priest x 2 Soltari Monk x 2 Soltari Champion x 2 Mentor of the Meek x 2

Spells Armageddon x 2 Wrath of God x 2 Enlightened Tutor x 2-3 Rootborn Defenses x 1-2 Eye for an Eye x 1

Artifacts Nevinyrral's Disk x 1 Elixir of Immortality x 1 Mimic Vat x 1-2 Sol Ring x 2-3

Land Drifting Meadow x 4 and Misc.

Side board -- all available cards.

Mortlocke on New hubs to be added

Hello legendofa,

I propose a new hub to be added: Phyrexian. During Modern Horizons 2, 225 creatures were retconned into having the Phyrexian creature subtype to join Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider . Additionally, there were a smattering of Enchantments, Artifacts and etc that ether have the Phyrexian subtype or create creature tokens that do. Thanks to this retcon I now have a deck that has a Phyrexian tribal theme. For your reference, below is a full list of spells that were affected by WotC's Phyrexian errata.

2-drop mana dorks like Iron Myr , Gold Myr , Manakin , Hedron Crawler , Plague Myr , Wily Goblin , and Magda, Brazen Outlaw seem good with Winota since they get her out faster, and then once she's out they can attack to trigger her ability.

You might like these too: Loyal Apprentice , Geist-Honored Monk , Knight-Captain of Eos , Pia and Kiran Nalaar , Attended Knight , Blade Splicer , Gallant Cavalry , Urbis Protector , Master Splicer

Ize19 on Pattern Recognition #182 - Flicker

Very nice article, berryjon! This was a fun look at one of my favorite mechanics, and was a pleasure to read. I will dispute the article's conclusion though, as whether or not flickering wins games depends entirely on what's being flickered.

Everybody knows card draw can win games, by ensuring you have the cards you need to win, so one of the most powerful effects flickering can abuse is card draw.

Watcher for Tomorrow and Sea Gate Oracle are great blink targets because they not only put a card in your hand, they also filter through your deck quickly, digging 3 or 4 cards deep with each ETB. Mulldrifter and Cloudblazer don't dig as deep, but make up for it by giving you 2 cards with every blink.

Another powerful, potentially game-winning ETB effect is token creation. Thragtusk is well-known for being a great flicker target, as it's 3/3 Beast token comes with a side helping of 3 life, and Armada Wurm starts as a great deal, with 10 trampling power for 6 mana, and just gets better with every flicker.

My personal favorite blink targets are the Splicers, e.g. Blade Splicer who not only produce 3/3 Golems, they boost their abilities as well. Nothing says inevitable victory quite like a couple of Soulherder flickering a Blade Splicer and a Master Splicer every turn, before you finally drop that Wing Splicer and have your Golem army fly in for the win!

Thanks again for covering one of my favorite subjects, I had a fun time both reading and replying to this one! As always, I look forward to your next article!

abby315 on Meren to Nethroi

The above comment about sums it up for me, unless you were planning to take it in a combo or other kind of direction! Here are some good Nethroi targets that have low power but make tokens or have good effects when they enter:

Biogenic Ooze Blade Splicer Master Splicer
Maul Splicer
Sensor Splicer
Noosegraf Mob
Chittering Witch
Creakwood Liege
Akroan Horse
Pentavus
Deep Forest Hermit
Deranged Hermit
Nut Collector
Duplicant
Geist-Honored Monk
Ghave, Guru of Spores
God-Eternal Oketra
Hornet Queen
Izoni, Thousand-Eyed
Tendershoot Dryad
Trostani Discordant Trostani's Summoner

Most of the above cards create creature tokens, so you'll probably want the usual: Doubling Season, Anointed Procession, Parallel Lives if you include a lot of them.

Here are some 0-power utility creatures to consider, because they're free to reanimate if they get killed:

Arboreal Grazer
Birds of Paradise
Devoted Druid
Incubation Druid
Faeburrow Elder
Custodi Soulbinders
Embodiment of Agonies
Fertilid
Golgari Grave-Troll (also a great include because Dredge can fill your GY)

And you'll also want at least a few additional Mutaters in case you have Nethroi out and want to trigger it again:

Cubwarden
Auspicious Starrix
Cavern Whisperer
Gemrazer
Dirge Bat
Mindleecher
Migratory Greathorn
Necropanther
Sawtusk Demolisher

...all seem like good includes.

Hope this gives you a good place to start and a list of interesting cards to consider. Many are very affordable. Now I kinda want to make a Nethroi deck.

Have fun!

This is a super neat deck, I love your choice of Venser; what you're doing with Master Splicer looks terrifying! Justiciar's Portal might be interesting as a signature spell, as it can turn your creatures into powerful blockers to protect Venser if he is attacked.

MaelstromLegends on Winota, Human Tamers

To preface this comment: Tinkering with different cool cards is what deck builders do, and I know that. My comment will, however, be based on possibly making the deck more competitive.

I feel like you're really missing out if you're playing Silverwing Squadron and Master Splicer. I like the concept with them, but you don't get the attack trigger from squardon, and splicer doesn't get you a ton of bang for your buck. I might recommend Charming Prince or Elite Guardmage. These would help with aggro matchups to slow them down.

I also think that going down on Legion Warboss is a choice is a mistake. You really want the turn 3 warboss into a t4 Winota. I can see that you took them out in your revisions, but I personally really like the card. 4 of these would help with control and ramp matchups to aggro them out or outvalue them.

I also think that Gingerbrute is an odd choice. There are a few reasons why this card is really good, but I don't believe you really want it in this deck. I would err more towards a way to get multiple triggers on Winota.

I like the Chandra, Acolyte of Flame as a way to create tokens or recast raise the alarm. I like Teferi, Time Raveler as protection during your burst turns as well as a way to bounce back etb cards like Agent of Treachery, or if you choose to run it, Charming Prince.

The sideboard really depends on meta, so that's up to you. Main things to keep in mind if you're on Arena post-Platinum is that you'll be going up against a lot of fires and control decks in Bo3, and a lot of fires and sacrifice decks in Bo1.

Good luck with brewing! I really like the potential that Winota has, and I'm interested to see where a deck like this goes post rotation without Agent of Treachery.
