Maybeboard

"She's the only commander to play Dwarf tribal with... I had no choice..." --Me, before Kaldheim

Current Price = $168.23 (3/31/24)

Strategy:

Steadily develop a boardstate of hard-to-remove vehicles. You'll always look like the least threatening player, so quickly try to call someone out when they pop off and start swinging to "help the table"

Don't overextend your attacks because the Crew mechanic puts you at a disadvantage when blocking.

Win Condition:

It's hard to swallow, but with dwarves I promise you that you're weaker than everyone else. Let the other players soften each other up and use a combination of big, resilient board states and finisher cards to steal games out from under the durdlers.

Why Play This Deck?

Because when you DO win with dwarf vehicles you get to laugh at everyone with a shit-eating grin :)

Depala is by no means a complicated general, she's basically just an anthem effect, but keep the following in mind when using her triggered ability:

  • Dwarf/Vehicle Density = 28/99 (not counting Depala herself), so you can expect slightly less than 1 out of 3 cards revealed by Depala to be added to your hand.

  • This ratio gets smaller as you draw dwarves and vehicles out of your deck throughout the game, and decreases even faster the more you use Depala's ability.

  • Basically, never depend on Depala as a "source" of card draw, just use her as an excess mana dump... So your reward for playing Dwarf Tribal is a basically-kind-of-shitty restock engine, but hey, this is Boros, take what you can get. (Sometimes it's even better to NOT pour mana into her if you're at a point in the game where a bigger board state isn't as important as drawing a finisher card that Depala would just shuffle to the bottom)
