Hofri Ghostforge

Hofri Ghostforge

Legendary Creature — Dwarf Cleric

Spirits you control get +1/+1 and have trample and haste.

Whenever another nontoken creature you control dies (is put into the graveyard from the battlefield), exile it. If you do, create a token that's a copy of the creature, except it's a Spirit in addition to its other types and it has "When this creature leaves the battlefield, return the exiled card to your graveyard."

I have never played Rule 0, I'm guessing your "partner" commander can be legendary or not right? Here are some cool pairings I don't consider too powerful.

Brion Stoutarm, would be a great way to sacrifice Evershrike when someone inevitably tries to kill/exile/ steal it, plus you gain life from it.

Ghen, Arcanum Weaver, way to recur some lost auras?

Obosh, the Preypiercer, probably a bit over powered.

Hofri Ghostforge, some synergy.

It is a shame that Liesa waits until the end step to return the creatures. I would've loved for it to be immediate, but then again, she probably would be too powerful then (cough cough Blood Pet cough cough). I think I'll stick with Hofri Ghostforge for this similar type of reanimator deck. I prefer his immediate effect over the delayed, but more reusable effect that Liesa brings to the table.

Liesa is pretty cool. Very similar to Hofri Ghostforge but in more supported colors for it.

FalconForce on Staring Contest: A List of Blink-Effect Cards

Nightmare Shepherd is one of the best as it adds a lot of functionality with no upfront cost and allows you to exploit sacrifice mechanics like evoke. Creating token clones with etb/ltb can easily become overpowered, especially when combined with populate. In fact I built a great ETB Roon EDH deck around it using cards like Yosei, the Morning Star, Protean Hulk and Wayfaring Temples that clone themselves. Token clone generation is amazing because it's essentially ETB blinking as a side effect. You have some cards that do it already listed under abuse but I think the mechanic is good enough and has enough viable cards that it might be worth making a new category for it.

Token clone makers

Stolen Identity Blade of Selves Mirror Mockery Zndrsplt's Judgment Repudiate / Replicate Hour of Eternity Supplant Form Dance of Many Minion Reflector Bramble Sovereign Progenitor Mimic Anointed Procession Quasiduplicate Rhys the Redeemed Back from the Brink Dual Nature Mimic Vat Rite of Replication Song of the Worldsoul Helm of the Host Doubling Season Parallel Lives Battle for Bretagard Mechanized Production Orvar, the All-Form Prototype Portal Saheeli, the Gifted Saheeli's Artistry Seance Second Harvest Soul Foundry Spitting Image Splinter Twin Replication Technique Saheeli Rai Mirror March Mirrorworks Molten Echoes Mythos of Illuna Sublime Epiphany Flamerush Rider Felhide Spiritbinder Littjara Mirrorlake God-Pharaoh's Gift Hofri Ghostforge Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker Followed Footsteps Nightmare Shepherd Osgir, the Reconstructor Echo Storm Cackling Counterpart Esika's Chariot Feldon of the Third Path Flameshadow Conjuring Trickster's Talisman & of course anything with populate.

Also some other blink type cards:

Blink-Yorion, Sky Nomad Conditional bounce- Cunning Evasion ETB clone- Wall of Stolen Identity Graveyard blink- Cauldron of Souls, Twilight Shepherd, Adarkar Valkyrie ETB Abuse- Jalira, Master Polymorphist, Proteus Staff, Master Transmuter. Listing the ones that specifically clone or blink artifacts in their own group might be helpful too.

And in the line of clerics, I've been enjoying this line of synergy on MTGArena if you'd care to look into it yourself:

Pyre of Heroes Righteous Valkyrie Orah, Skyclave Hierophant Hofri Ghostforge Quintorius, Field Historian

Combine those with any number of value clerics with lower CMC and you've got a nasty brew. I'm currently pushing Diamond Tier 4 with it in Standard.

Whether you're interested in it or not I figured you would enjoy the flavor/synergy. Cheers!

Hi_diddly_ho_neighbor on Modern Horizons 2 Spoilers

seshiro_of_the_orochi - I think Chatterfang will likely keep a hefty price tag for a little while because of the memes in commander. Plus with the addition of Squirrel Sovereign and Squirrel Sanctuary, there is an actual squirrel modern deck now. Not sure if it will be strong, but again, for the memes, people will build it. I do think ultimately it will probably sit between $5-$10 though (that's where CardKingdom currently has it priced). All I know is I totally will be picking one up when the price drops a little. My squirrel deck has been waiting for this commander for years.

Coward_Token - Squirrels are kind of a blank canvas. Until Ikoria, there were only 2 black bordered squirrel creatures and 9 (I think) related squirrel token produces. So as long as the cards were base green, they really could go with whatever secondary color they wanted. I think WotC went with because of Unstable where squirrels were /. Also, I think there is an element of flavor with since squirrels are considered vermin akin to rats in many parts of the world.

I am very intrigued by Serra's Emissary for my Hofri Ghostforge deck. Being able to give myself and creatures protection from instants and creatures at the same time ( Panharmonicon or Anointed Procession ) in a game of commander seems worth the 7 mana or a single reanimation spell.

Spoilers for this set have certainly started off with a bang. My only complaint is that the old bordered cards can only be obtained via collector's boosters.
