Hofri Ghostforge

Hofri Ghostforge

Legendary Creature — Dwarf Cleric

Spirits you control get +1/+1 and have trample and haste.

Whenever another nontoken creature you control dies (is put into the graveyard from the battlefield), exile it. If you do, create a token that's a copy of the creature, except it's a Spirit in addition to its other types and it has "When this creature leaves the battlefield, return the exiled card to your graveyard."

Hofri Ghostforge Discussion

And in the line of clerics, I've been enjoying this line of synergy on MTGArena if you'd care to look into it yourself:

Pyre of Heroes Righteous Valkyrie Orah, Skyclave Hierophant Hofri Ghostforge Quintorius, Field Historian

Combine those with any number of value clerics with lower CMC and you've got a nasty brew. I'm currently pushing Diamond Tier 4 with it in Standard.

Whether you're interested in it or not I figured you would enjoy the flavor/synergy. Cheers!

seshiro_of_the_orochi - I think Chatterfang will likely keep a hefty price tag for a little while because of the memes in commander. Plus with the addition of Squirrel Sovereign and Squirrel Sanctuary, there is an actual squirrel modern deck now. Not sure if it will be strong, but again, for the memes, people will build it. I do think ultimately it will probably sit between $5-$10 though (that's where CardKingdom currently has it priced). All I know is I totally will be picking one up when the price drops a little. My squirrel deck has been waiting for this commander for years.

Coward_Token - Squirrels are kind of a blank canvas. Until Ikoria, there were only 2 black bordered squirrel creatures and 9 (I think) related squirrel token produces. So as long as the cards were base green, they really could go with whatever secondary color they wanted. I think WotC went with because of Unstable where squirrels were /. Also, I think there is an element of flavor with since squirrels are considered vermin akin to rats in many parts of the world.

I am very intrigued by Serra's Emissary for my Hofri Ghostforge deck. Being able to give myself and creatures protection from instants and creatures at the same time ( Panharmonicon or Anointed Procession ) in a game of commander seems worth the 7 mana or a single reanimation spell.

Spoilers for this set have certainly started off with a bang. My only complaint is that the old bordered cards can only be obtained via collector's boosters.

ChrisHansonBiomancin Well crap, I you are right. I just looked up the rulings for it. I should have done that first. Well I see me making a Quintorius, Field Historian plus a Titans' Nest (or something) in my near future.

Though wouldn't Quintorius, Field Historian 's ability reflect off of Hofri Ghostforge 's ability?

I don't know what your budget is, but this seems like an ideal deck to be running some sort of fetchlands, even the common variants. They let you recur Bloodghast an additional time and even grant extra damage from Mayhem Devil . Hofri Ghostforge and Rekindling Phoenix feel quite slow relative to the power of their effect. It also seems a shame not to have as many black creatures available to sacrifice as possible for the sake of Teysa, Orzhov Scion , although I could also see Pawn of Ulamog fulfilling a similar role. Maybe something like Gutterbones , Reassembling Skeleton , or a combo of Relentless Dead and Gravecrawler could prove useful. There's also Grim Haruspex as another way to refuel or Gate to the Afterlife if pitching cards is important.

The only awkward part about adding the Strict Proctor is that you still have temples, and it counters the scrying, it does allow the trioms to enter in untapped :). One of the big things I worked with a friend of mine on with this deck during spoiler season is to add Venerable Warsinger along side the Proctor. I also liked you using Immersturm Predator , it made Hofri Ghostforge so much better! Here is what I put together for you, as usual, all are suggestions, feel free to take or leave whatever and thank you for your collaboration.

So the important thing to remember is that effects can only track a card to the first place it goes, unless it specifies otherwise (and I can't think of any that do).

So when to sack Solly to Ashnod's Altar , it will die and go to the graveyard. This will trigger both Lifeline (as a delayed trigger) and Hofri Ghostforge .

When Hofri's ability resolves, Solly will get moved from the graveyard to exile (and a token copy of Solly will be created). Once that movement happens, Lifeline loses track of Solly. It can't find it anymore, even if it eventually gets moved back to the graveyard.

So when the end of turn happens, and Lifeline looks for the Solemn Simulacrum that went from the Battlefield to the Graveyard, it can't find it, and the ability fizzles.

Does that help clear things up?

on board I have Hofri Ghostforge Lifeline Ashnods alter Solemn Simulacrum

Why wouldn’t lifeline work here?

I sack solemn , lifeline triggers I sack the solemn token hofri made putting solemn in the graveyard so when lifeline resolves wouldn’t it bring back my solemn?

Lifeline hurts my brain
