Nautiloid Ship

Artifact — Vehicle

Flying

When Nautiloid Ship enters the battlefield, exile target player's graveyard.

Whenever Nautiloid Ship deals combat damage to a player, you may put a creature card exiled with Nautiloid Ship onto the battlefield under your control. (This is a linked ability, linked to the ability in the second paragraph on the card named "Nautiloid Ship". You may only put the exiled creature card onto battlefield if that creature was exiled via the ability in the second paragraph.)

Crew 3 (Tap any number of other untapped creatures you control with total power 3 or more: This vehicle becomes an artifact creature until end of turn.)

What a great deck; love it, so definitely a +1 from me! Lots of similarities between yours and mine. I had completely forgotten about Manifold Key and Unwinding Clock; need to find some space in my own deck for those. I recently acquired The Indomitable, so that will be going in for sure too.

As for your deck, Nautiloid Ship could be nice. Awesome to screw around with opposing boards :) I've found Armed and Armored is fantastic when for whatever reason you've run out of pilots but not vehicles (like right after a creature-wipe). Lita, Mechanical Engineer is also fun; especially if you can generate steady streams of pilots :) Speaking of pilot generation: Sharding Sphinx is amazing as vehicle damage translates into new pilots.

Have fun with the build!

Niko9 thanks a ton! I think Lifeline looks like a ton of fun, my only nitpick is cutting cards, because the list is super tight. ):

Relic of Progenitus is amazing! I have a fair amount of grave recursion myself, so I focused in on cards like Soul-Guide Lantern and Nautiloid Ship so my own graveyard doesn’t get blown out by such effects.

Thanks once again for your kind words! Mishra has been a fast favorite of mine, and I was working on the list as soon as he got spoiled. :)

cptinsaneoman Thanks :)

The true advantage of Undead Alchemist is the quantity over quality approach along with locking down graveyards from reanimator abilities. Same idea as Nautiloid Ship, it may seem counterintuitive to remove things from opponents graveyards but sometimes that hurts them most. Ideally you'd never have him out at the same time as your commander as well.

Don't forget there's also the play that when your opponent decides not to block your zombies because it's just mill damage, if you have enough you can kill your own Alchemist before damage to turn it all back into health damage.

I wouldn't have ever considered Masako as a vehicles commander -- Excellent work!

Mikaeus and the Dragonscale Genral are particularly inspired choices as well.

I'd maybe only recommend considering Peacewalker Colossus as an alternative means of crewing/more aggro if needed, and maybe Raiders' Karve for ramp, as it's inconsistent -- There's also Unlicensed Hearse and Nautiloid Ship but they're kind of on the expensive side in terms of real world card value.

As I say, just something to think about -- You'll figure out what you need as you play the deck and figure out it's strengths and weaknesses -- Keep up the good work!

This list gave me inspiration for my own first deck years ago so I thought I'd add to it. There's been a lot of colorless/land cards added in the past few years but here are several that I really thought added something of value over most other cards:

Protection: Commander's Plate

Haste Enabler: Crashing Drawbridge

Ramp: Diamond Lion Forsaken Monument

Tutors: Moonsilver Key

Beaters: Phyrexian Triniform

Graveyard Hate: Nautiloid Ship Unlicensed Hearse

Utility: Wandering Archaic  Flip

Lands: Bonders' Enclave Urza's Saga War Room Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth

I have my own list on my profile for anyone curious about even more options. Also final caveat, my list is based off my own meta, which is pretty casual at best. If your meta is more cut throat definitely consider more interaction and lower cmc options over others. Tutors will do wonders for you as well.

alexjustdoit & Lokotor - Thank you for your input. I admit that Nautiloid Ship is quite an expensive graveyard hate card at 4CMC. My reasoning was that as an artifact, it gets around potential creature board wipes/removal, and sits in the game as a potential big body that can block (crew at instant speed), or that you steal the best removed creature of an opponent. Marchesa could be easily the creature I use to crew it, since in most cases, I don't use her to attack the moment she has her +1/+1 counter. My Marchesa build is leaning heavily on the ideas of Lokotor (very inspiring, thank you!), but I try to slip in some theft cards too (although I try to make sure that it's not the only thing they do). Nautiloid seemed a good option, as a primarily GY hate card, and possible theft card too. A worse (and back-up) Dauthi Voidwalker.

Slashdance

Glen Elendra Archmage is already in my list. I don't think I have anything that outright wins the game with the GEA and Mikaeus combo at the moment, but that's just personal preference. It would be easy to sub in Goblin Bombardment or etc to make it work though.

Etrata, the Silencer is too narrow and slow of a card for me in most situations I think. Similarly, as alexjustdoit pointed out, Nautiloid Ship requires a bit too many hoops for my tastes. You need: an opponent with decent cards in their grave, 3 power to crew it with, to hit with it, and then obviously 4 mana to play it in the first place. Ultimately I think it's also suffering from being a bit too slow / bulky of a card for most games.

Would Nautiloid Ship be a viable graveyard hate card? Exiles GY's, and makes you use those cards. It dies as a creature with a +1/+1, so it should return to the battlefield, even though it's a vehicle in the GY?
