Commander Sliver Deck

Okay Twinships, lets start with the most important thing you must know about Slivers - and repeat after me: "Slivers are a sometimes food.". While they are amazing, and the more show up the more ridiculous the boardstate - you don't need all of them. There are times when you absolutely need room for other things like interaction, engines, you know...an actual deck. First things first - Who is your commander? To designate a Commander for the list on TappedOut you need to tag the card with CMDR when editing your deck list. Depending on the Commander, choices and recommendations will vary.
As of now, your deck has no engines, interaction, or resiliency - all of which are needed as you seem to be suffering from the classic Sliver problem of poor table politics. So, lets start looking at some card recommendations:
- Lurking Predators: You need an engine, and this is as good as any. It also plays into table politics as it disincentivizes other decks from popping off at best, at worst it gets your opponents focusing on it instead of your creatures.
-
Intruder Alarm: You need an engine, this one in particular is one of the usual suspects for slivers that help close out games. When Heart Sliver (or any other haste enabler) and Manaweft Sliver (or any other dork) are on the field you can at worst play your whole hand, and at best play your whole deck and close the game on the same turn. Just make sure you only play this when you can effectively end the game as it is an effect that benefits your opponents as well.
-
Worldly Tutor: You need tutors.
- Sylvan Tutor: You need tutors.
- Demonic Tutor: You need tutors.
- Grim Tutor: You need tutors.
- Guardian Project: You need card draw.
- Dormant Sliver: This is an optional card draw suggestion as you need a reliable sac outlet to remove the Defender ability from your Sliver
- Counterspell: You need interaction.
- Mana Drain: You need interaction.
- Strix Serenade: You need interaction.
- Swan Song: You need interaction.
- Kindred Dominance: You need mass removal to slow down faster players.
- Blasphemous Act: You need mass removal to slow down faster players. This also combos very well with Spiteful Sliver as well.
- Cyclonic Rift: You need mass removal to slow down faster players and have answers.
- Consider the Talisman cycle: Talisman of Curiosity, Talisman of Dominance etc. You need more rocks and means of fixing your manabase.
- Kodama's Reach: The Sister to Cultivate - you need as many options as possible to fix your manabase in this deck as you are running all 5 colors. 5 Color decks tend to run slow and inefficient if you don't invest heavily in the manabase and/or in many different options for color fixing. On that same note, consider Skyshroud Claim as it is also very similar in nature as long as you have lands with multiple subtypes e.g. Stomping Ground
or Breeding Pool
which are both Forests but also are other land types. Also on that note - get shocklands. All of them. If you can also afford it get the Kahns of Tarkir/Onslaught/Zendikar Fetchlands as well. An okay cheaper substitute for the previously mentioned would be the Mirage Fetchlands - but they're an incomplete cycle. Sorry for the tangent here.
Now, these are just a start to some suggestions and ideas for your deck. But we can't get started until you designate your commander. Then we can start cutting to make room. Are there any pet cards or ideas you have? Please share.

GeminiSpartanX There are many ways for Slivers to go infinite in mana, creatures or damage. I will start by listing 3 of the most common ones you will generally see to get you started. The rest I will leave for you to discover through play.
-
Sliver Queen+Mana Echoes: The classic, will generate infinite mana and Sliver tokens, combine with a haste sliver for an infinite attack or use Lavabelly Sliver for infinite target damage and life.
-
Basal Sliver+Sliver Queen+Lavabelly Sliver: Infinite target damage and life gain.
-
Intruder Alarm+The First Sliver: Not truly an infinite combo on it's own but can be with the right setup or hit's off cascade triggers. Intruder Alarm combos with a ham sandwich so not hard to make infinite with mana/haste slivers and Hibernation Sliver and Darkheart Sliver.
Bonus: The most important cards to consider for combos. Sliver Queen, Basal Sliver, Lavabelly Sliver, Hibernation Sliver, The First Sliver, Gemhide Sliver, Manaweft Sliver, Heart Sliver, Cloudshredder Sliver, Firewake Sliver, Darkheart Sliver, Cautery Sliver, Sliver Overlord, Homing Sliver, Mana Echoes, Intruder Alarm, Faces of the Past.
Support Cards: The most important cards to protect your combos. Crystalline Sliver, Root Sliver, Sliver Hivelord, Quick Sliver, Ward Sliver, Force of Will, Patriarch's Bidding.

Basal Sliver + Sliver Queen + Heart Sliver + Gemhide Sliver = infinite mana + creature

So I would probably suggest changing Crypt Sliver for Sedge Sliver. Reason for this is because Crystalline Sliver and Crypt Sliver are a NonBo as you cant target the slivers with the ability.
I would also probably change Shadow Sliver for Shifting Sliver. Gives you the ability to block others, but you can't be blocked. Shadow Sliver is a double edged sword, as you also can't block.
You have the option of another mana Sliver in the form of Gemhide Sliver. Trust me, Mana is your most required asset. I would drop Virulent Sliver as, to be honest, I would not genuinely expect to win with poison counters. And if this was a win con I would be going hard on it, not just a 1 chance.
As the aim of your deck is to go wide, I would be tempted to go with Shared Animosity to pump your attack power.
You have Spiteful Sliver in there, why not include Blasphemous Act? with enough creatures, this in itself can kill off your opponents.
Heart Sliver replacing Reflex Sliver is a strict upgrade. Cheaper and still gives haste.
I would question the value of Spinneret Sliver when you already have 2 slivers giving you flying.
If you are going wide Horned Sliver could be an option, however may not be needed. I would be more inclined to go with a Synapse Sliver. Need to keep that grip full of more Slivers to power the Hive.
Now... onto the mana base...
I would strongly suggest getting more dual color lands which can come into play UNTAPPED. We are in a very intensive deck, and getting to that is super important. Chromatic Lantern could be super useful, and you may also wish to replace something with Morophon, the Boundless.
Whilst ABUR duals are super expesive, and to an extent Fetchlands too, Shocklands (Godless Shrine etc.) and Bondlands (Morphic Pool etc.) may be more accessible. You could look at the Filter lands too, or checks. I just think this could essentially speed up the deck exponentially
I will have another think about some other bits as well and will get back to you :)

Hey abierto,
It’s been awhile since you commented, glad to hear from you. Thanks for bringing these cards onto my radar. I've got some mixed opinions about each card, so let's discuss - Survival of the Fittest seems only viable when looking for the aforementioned Sliver Queen + Lavabelly Sliver + Basal Sliver combo. Otherwise, i'd just be populating my graveyard for a mass reanimation play that could either make or break my next turn and probably the rest of the game for me. Seems a little too high risk, high reward.
Survival of the Fittest only makes me miss Paradox Engine that much more. I guess I just need to see how it's viable outside of just tutoring for the previously mentioned. Separately, I saw a Sliver themed alter of this card that is really awesome:
Intuition in a good card, but i'm not sure it'll be good in this deck. It would be a great tutor for decks that have reanimation as a primary theme.
Dregscape Sliver on the other hand I’m seriously considering - i'd cut Patriarch's Bidding, as the benefit of only targeting my stuff outweighs the exile at the end of turn. I tend to face a lot of tribal decks in my meta(s), so not bringing back everyone else's graveyard to seal the deal on a combo seems like an easy decision.
Hi Sneuxfox,
Welcome to my deck page, thank you for posting. I've always held Magma Sliver in high regard, but the issue i've had with it is that for it to be a viable card on the board I would need to reach a "critical mass" of Slivers on board. By itself, it's ability is so-so. But I now realize when accompanied by Sentinel Sliver and/or Bonescythe Sliver this creature can make a somewhat threatening board get really out of hand.
To be honest, it's been a long time since i've taken another look at this card. The last time I considered it's inclusion was before M14 at least. Now, after Modern Horizons there are a bunch of more interesting combinations we could use. You've convinced me - i'll be cutting Heart Sliver (as Cloudshredder Sliver makes it obsolete) for Magma.
The only problem I have to worry about now is if Crystalline Sliver is on board. Also, what the heck is happening with Magma Sliver? It just had a serious price spike! You know something I don't?
Thanks again for all of your awesome suggestions and discussion. You help keep this deck list evolving.

Hey abierto,
Indeed it’s been awhile since you commented, glad to hear from you. Thank you for bringing these cards onto my radar, let’s discuss them - I can easily tell that Survival of the Fittest would dramatically change the way the deck plays – with Survival of the Fittest + Dregscape Sliver on the board, access to at least 3 mana, 1 creature in hand, and at least an additional I can combo out and win the game on that turn. The only drawbacks I can see here are the mana requirements coupled with the more than likely opponent interaction that would be coming my way. Given that Dregscape Sliver’s ability is only sorcery speed – that only solidifies my concern as A simple Bojuka Bog could wreck me If I do not populate my graveyard with care and proper timing. This makes me wish that Paradox Engine wasn’t banned – I really miss that card. The verdict is out on Survival of the Fittest, I want to like to this card but I can’t help but feel hesitant in including it (let alone the investment). I think I’ll maybe proxy it in and see where that takes me. Speaking which, check out this really awesome alter:
Survival of the Fittest Sliver Alter Show
Dregscape Sliver on the other hand I’m considering including. Maybe cutting Patriarch's Bidding, as I do not like the mana investment and the potential added bonus of assisting opponents. In the metas I play in there are a lot of tribal decks – I’m sitting across from at least one or two other tribal decks every game. I’m ordering a copy today, so thank you for mentioning that card again.
Hi Sneuxfox (death by Snu snu?),
Welcome to my deck page! Thank you for posting. I’ve always wanted to work Magma Sliver into this decklist, but I don’t think it would be a good fit – Magma lends itself toward a Sliver deck that compliments a more Aggro strategy where the goal is to hit a “critical mass” of creatures and abuse enough evasion keywords to get a single creature to knock an opponent out. First Sliver's Chosen would be an absolute must include alongside Magma Sliver, as it would solidify a Voltron strategy by stacking Exalted triggers alongside Magma’s ability. I definitely agree that the aforementioned can get out hand when you have just one Sliver be the target of multiple triggers.
I agree that it's criminal that Magma doesn't make it's way into alot of lists, maybe it's due to most decks wanting to lean into the Mid-range Sliver tool box? Or maybe it's because the deck would need to be more Voltron centric? I decided to throw together a quick decklist as an example of what I think the average deck running Magma Sliver would look like:

Consider removing:
Virulent Sliver because it's ability is basically useless. Poison won't be a game winner. Even against infinite life decks, it's far more likely you'll win with commander damage before poison.
Darkheart Sliver because why would you ever want to sacrifice a sliver to gain 3 life?
Consider adding:
Magma Sliver because BIG DAMAGE means one hit kill with your commander!
Shadow Sliver because it is a cheaper version of Shifting Sliver and has basically the same ability. Nice to have both in the deck because unblockable slivers are very powerful!
Quick Sliver because casting slivers at instant speed allows you insane flexibility that your opponents won't be able to respond to effectively.
Consider replacing Crystalline Sliver with Opaline Sliver because the crystal sounds good until you realize it prevents Crypt Sliver and Magma Sliver from functioning.
Consider replacing Fellwar Stone with Arcane Signet because it's a better card.
Consider replacing Blur Sliver with Heart Sliver because it's less mana and quite similar

I’d also recommend Blur Sliver and Heart Sliver . These are both awesome slivers to give your team haste.
