Possible Edits

Deck Prep

Use Silver color-coded land and ramp package

During Game

Remember that blink & flicker effects can protect against single target removal because they change the state of the card that was targeted, but they don't help against boardwipes

Don’t be so quick to discard answer cards like the charms in favor of big dragons

Use Sisay to tutor for 6-7 CMC dragons or General Ferrous in most cases

Use Bring to Light to tutor for Soulherder, Sisay, or boardwipe in most cases

Pull Jegantha into hand on turn 3 as long as doing so won't cause discard

Stats

101 cards because Jegantha meets "Companion" criteria

55 multi-color cards in main deck (plus Niv and Jegantha):

Gruul, Dimir, Rakdos, Golgari, and Selesnya = 6 cards each

Azorius, Simic, Orzhov, Izzet, and Boros = 5 each

11 lands that ETB tapped (29% of total) - more than normal b/c of 5-color mana base

2 colorless non-fetch lands (5% of total)

Deck Notes

Adapted from decklist on "The Commander's Quarters"

Restructured cardpool to enable Jegantha as companion; removed basic landcycling and vivid lands

Deck previously had a sub-theme of 18 legendary creatures (relevant to Sisay and Arvad) - these were later transferred into Jodah the Unifier deck

Uses a lot of ramp both to help with Niv's casting cost and to be able to keep up with card draw / cast multiple spells per turn

Mana curve heavily weighted to 2 CMC spells since Niv can replenish hand w/ more spells

Doesn’t have traditional card draw spells - focuses on triggering Niv Mizzet's ETB effect

Card Notes

Charm spells have multiple uses outside the category they are typically used for

Most of the Blink instants and Riptide Laboratory can also function as Protection; some can also be used as removal

Mirror spells are primarily for copying Niv-Mizzet's ETB effect, but can also copy a valuable creature

Journey to Eternity can also help with ramp and recursion when transformed

Soulherder can reset Niv Mizzet from tapped to untapped when it blinks

Tyrant's Scorn can also be used to bounce Niv back to hand

Borderposts can be cast for 1 generic mana by returning a basic land to hand; helps with catching up on land drops
