Ashiok, Sculptor of Fears Discussion

Nemesis of Reason got dropped because of its price and how it targets a single person. But it could definitely go in the upgrades board if you wanted it. It just looked like the kind of thing that would put a big fat target on your head. I kept Soaring Thought-Thief because it triggers the mill by itself. If IT attacks, then the mill to everyone. But it could definitely be dropped for any other card. I would say Sphinx's Tutelage is definitely a highly efficient card. Mind Grind could be insane in Commander, and I would choose that over Traumatize. My other top picks would be Vela the Night-Clad , Sphinx Mindbreaker , Startled Awake  Flip, and Ashiok, Sculptor of Fears .

Interesting take on the mill plan.

I'm glad to see Sphinx Mindbreaker used here, and mixing it with Obsessive Stitcher and Malakir Rebirth  Flip seems promising. I do feel like running 4 Sphinx Mindbreaker seems like a lot though since Obsessive Stitcher is your only reliable way to cheat it into play. Using a 6 mana Ashiok, Sculptor of Fears (that's pretty bad otherwise) that might still be there to play it from the graveyard on the next turn doesn't seem like the greatest idea. I think 3 would be more reasonable.

I like the inclusion of Ghostly Pilferer since it should line-up nicely against all the foretell cards in the meta, but I feel like Vantress Gargoyle would serve you better in the main board both for staying alive, your mill plan, or winning with damage.

You are running very few lands at 21 for a deck that means that runs a bunch of high CMC cards that also wants to keep up mana for instants and creature abilities. Personally I would remove the 2 Ashiok, Sculptor of Fears and add 2 lands, probably a Castle Vantress and a Castle Locthwain .

Drown in the Loch is an amazing card in here, but it being your only counterspell and your only removal, it will have a lot of heavy lifting to do. A few Saw It Coming or Heartless Act could go a long way. You could probably cut a few Relic Golem or Ghostly Pilferer since you won't get much value out of too many creatures out at the same time with abilities you need to pay for anyway.

Hopefully these are useful, cheers!

Wondering if I should swap Ruin Crab from the sideboard with Foulmire Knight , or if there is a better option?

Is Ashiok, Sculptor of Fears the right move for this deck, or would something else work better?

TLDR at bottom

Consumingkeribo sorry it took so long was looking for cards that you suggested and taking in what you said. this deck was based on the cards in the Theros: Beyond Death Ashiok, Sculptor of Fears plansewalker deck so my main goal in this deck is to make them lose thru mill hence why it's named after Mindwrack Harpy and to change that strategy would mean I would have to scrap the whole deck so even though you don't recommend it that's the win condition I'm going for

I like your idea of Sadistic Sacrament or Unmoored Ego but I don't think that cards like Curiosity or Rogue's Gloves will help with the mill strategy unless I put in more cards that allow me to "bring back the dead"

In the end thanks for the recommendations and advice I'm thankful that even thou I'm new you were willing to help and if you have anymore you like to share I'm always here.

deck focus/win condition: mill

Pretty good deck you have here. I feel like Painful Quandary and Propaganda are some pretty good deterrents to go with your walls. Silent Arbiter and Crawlspace aren't too bad either. Since your using mill you could get away with Scheming Symmetry since you can mill whatever your opponent chooses. In terms of more mill focused creatures there are Gyruda, Doom of Depths, Mindwrack Harpy and Geth, Lord of the Vault. If you want Planeswalkers you could go with Jace, Memory Adept, Ashiok, Sculptor of Fears and Liliana, Death Mage for her last ability.

I feel like you could replace a few of your defenders with some of my recommended creatures and/or Planeswalkers and you probably don't need that many tap spells. However since it is a casual deck you'll know your playgroups meta better than me so only you can really judge if my recommendations work for you and which of your cards perform better than others.

I'd sideboard the Mystical Disputes, as they're much more useful against blue decks. I'd swap it I'd swap that in the mainboard for Quench. Also, in my opinion, Ashiok, Sculptor of Fears isn't the greatest. Sure, it lets you draw a card and mill 2 (From everyone, including yourself), but is a steep price to pay for that, especially since you don't have any real ramp. Besides, he's a planeswalker deck planeswalker, so...I'd probably replace him with an Ashiok, Nightmare Muse, or a Jace, Wielder of Mysteries.

Your deck is very confused. You have a lot of counterspells to control, which I understand, but then you're also trying to go for hand-hate and reanimation, which I don't understand. I'd say take it in one direction only, and then have a smaller subtheme--basically, get rid of reanimation altogether. It makes your decklist jumbled, and it doesn't help you reach your endgame. You may also want to lower the amount of high costed spells you have, as those will take a while to get out onto the field. Good luck with the deck.

Need some non-Ugin esper wincons, you say? Taking into account the flavor and goal of the deck, I found a couple things that might help.

First, Interplanar Beacon might help a bit with sustain and fixing, especially if you get two of them out. You won't get life from Ugin's ult, but it helps you stay alive long enough to get there. Second, Oath of Kaya offers a bit of burn and sustain, and if your opponents do get any creatures through, they'll pay for it (though you might not need this Oath if you're keeping the board pretty well controlled already).

For combat damage, Gideon Blackblade, Kiora Bests the Sea God, and Ajani, Strength of the Pride give you good evasion and other removal/sustain options that help in mid-to-late game.

For finishers, Mass Manipulation and Ashiok, Sculptor of Fears solve the problem of not having a wincon on hand - just steal your Simic opponent's big beater and clobber them to death with it! :D

Norin, Panicking

Legendary Creature - Human Coward

Whenever a spell or ability targets you or a permanent or spell you control, Norin, Panicking deals 2 damage to its controller.

Whenever a creature attacks you or a planeswalker you control, Norin, Panicking deals 2 damage to its controller.

"Stay back!"

I think he's rather relatable, just shocking any and everything that tries to hurt him. I designed him to be an enemy to Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver, as even their other cards (Ashiok, Sculptor of Fears, Ashiok, Dream Render, and Ashiok, Nightmare Muse) all require targeting or attacking a particular player, also Norin is a coward and AShiok is basically the boogeyman, so they seem diametrically opposed.

I'd like to see another Lukka, Coppercoat Outcast card! (as a planeswalker, not on Ikoria)
