Just a list of artifact commanders I want to build around, and the cards which all of them tend to use (also some good cards which happen to be artifacts). Key words out of date.

  • Generals: I just used this term instead of commanders for... reasons.
  • Hard Ramp: a way to permanently increase your access to mana.
  • Discounts: a way to lower the cost of certain spells or abilities.
  • Soft Ramp: tends to be more conditional than hard ramp, usually at the cost of some other resource.
  • Sac(rifice) Fodder: anything with a beneficial leave the battlefield effect.
  • Self Sacrifice: like an altar, except it is only capable of sacrificing itself.
  • Altars: can sacrifice another permanent (and sometimes itself); doesn't need to do anything else.
  • Draw: anything which draws you cards.
  • Mana Fixing: can change the type of mana you have available, or in stranger cases makes it so mana type doesn't matter.
  • Land Fetchers: definitely not ramp, but helps put lands into your hand.
  • Double Trouble: can allow you to repeat or double an activation and/or trigger of an ability (without flickering or bounce effects).
  • Summoner: can cheat out any permanent from your hand or deck, tends to be strictly better than flashing something out.
  • Flash: can grant instant speed to casting other spells.
  • Protection: can make your stuff indestructible, hexproof or shrouded.
  • Removal: can get rid of something. I'll only adding artifacts which have removal built in, or anything which explicitly needs artifacts to function as removal.
  • Lands: anything in this collection which happens to be a land. Can be an important detail.
  • Recursion: can bring back permanents from the graveyard.
