Fetchlands and shocklands are in quite a reasonable price range now and can help smooth out your land base as well, it’s usually pretty good to have some “free” shuffle effects. Or if that isn’t an option, at least Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse are quite helpful for that as well.
A couple more big mana extra turn cards like Time Stretch could help.
Jace is ok here, but something like Saheeli, Sublime Artificer would be better as you’ll be casting a ton of non-creature spells and making a lot of tokens. Even Monastery Mentor can also help with that as well.

I would recommend Drift of Phantasms to tutor for whatever 3 cost card you want or have an excellent flying blocker to keep you alive while you combo (In my version of this deck I run Blue Sun's Zenith as my end game with infinite mana and phantasms lets me tutor for it or any other 3 drops I need for combo fun). I also run Saheeli, Sublime Artificer to duplicate my Galvanizer and get the combo off with only 1 in play plus mana myr(s).

Hey, you're welcome. Strixhaven and Commander 2021 are amazing sets for Kalamax. In my budget version I've added 9 cards combined from these two sets which is really rare to have this many budget upgrades in such a short period of time. To compare, the previous update from Time Spiral Remastered had only 2 card upgrades and before that Kaldheim had zero.
You could adjust and expand on your artifacts ( Everflowing Chalice ) if you wanted to play Galazeth Prismari with Kalamax. It's worth playtesting, but in the end I'm not sure it's going to be worth it. You'll want Galazeth from ramp for instants, but Storm-Kiln Artist is a four drop that also can ramp and the ramp is made by casting/copying instants, not from artifacts which is better for the overall gameplan with Kalamax. Artist, Galazeth and Saheeli, Sublime Artificer have good synergy though; together and with Kalamax since treasures and Servos are artifacts that can be tapped for mana for instants.
When you dig deeper into what Kalamax can do as a Commander you'll find that he's excellent for combos, many different combos (infinite damage, infinite mana, infinite storm, repeatable draw, infinite turns). Most of the combos however require a lot of mana to achieve and that's where Galazeth could help especially extra turn combos with sorceries which are nice with evasive Kalamax to do lethal Commander damage one at a time to your opponents.

Hey, well done on a budget for your first Commander deck. I'm having fun with Veyran with Kalamax, the Stormsire .
You have 111 cards which is too many. Cards to consider cutting to get to 100 cards:
- Temple of the False God : you don't have any land ramp, only relying on land drops to get five or more lands. This land will not be able to tap for mana until turn five or six at the earliest which is really bad.
- Sphinx-Bone Wand : it's too slow for the for payoff even with Veyran. It's seven mana and you then have to cast an instant or sorcery to put a counter on it.
- Siren of the Fanged Coast : five mana 4/4 flier is what this will be every time you cast it which is subpar.
- Brass's Bounty : not worth seven mana for treasures since you don't want to ramp into it. Need at least six lands in your control to make paying seven mana worth six treasures.
- Curator's Ward : you have better hexproof protection (Greaves/Boots) for Veyran.
- Selective Snare : narrow sorcery speed removal since only works on one creature type.

Some budget cards to consider adding:
- Reiterate : combos with Mana Geyser to make infinite red mana as long as opponents have seven or more tapped lands. Buyback is nice when you want to be casting instants since it lets you after resolving it put it back into your hand to cast again. Mana enablers Storm-Kiln Artist and Birgi, God of Storytelling Flip are excellent with buyback.
Buyback is the reason that Reiterate can be a infinite combo with Geyser. After copying Geyser with Reiterate you resolve the copy of Geyser first and then resolve the original Reiterate which puts it back into your hand. While the original Geyser is still on the stack cast Reiterate again to copy the original Geyser and repeat. Can make infinite storm count for
, infinite cast of instant for
Ral, Storm Conduit
or infinite mana for
Jaya's Immolating Inferno
as win conditions.
- Solve the Equation : tutor for any instant or sorcery.
- Saheeli, Sublime Artificer
- Frantic Search : goes well with High Tide since it can untap lands. Being able to cast an instant to draw and then untap lands lets you potentially cast another instant that you may of drawn to get more out of Veyran and magecraft.
- Brainstorm : staple blue draw spell, instant draw three for one mana.
- Increasing Vengeance : copy your own instant or sorcery. Has flashback which lets you cast it again from your graveyard and if you do copy your own instant or sorcery twice.
- Preordain : Scry 2 before you draw is nice. One mana spell that's a good target to copy.
- Wizard's Retort : Veyran is a Wizard.
- Shivan Reef
- Ash Barrens
- Grixis Panorama

Hey, I'm finding the mana acceleration to be very good.
Nice budget version you've made, but Manamorphose can't be played with only Izzet colors since it's color identity has green with hybrid mana. Could cut Manamorphose for Howling Mine since it's repeatable draw and with Galazeth you can tap it for mana before your opponent's turn.
I recently added Toggo, Goblin Weaponsmith for his landfall repeatable create an artifact. Rocks are normally terrible, but with Galazeth they're free artifacts to make mana the turn their created. Saheeli, Sublime Artificer creates artifacts, Servos, whenever you cast any noncreature. Toggo could replace Silver Myr and Shaeeli could replace Iron Myr .

Starting with the Prismari deck, because an actual reason:
Elementalist's Palette: Yeah this is pretty great. It's a Manalith by default, which is OK, but after a single X-spell it morphs into a Worn Powerstone and keeps going. Zaxara, the Exemplary will enjoy this, among others.
Reinterpret: Fair Mana Drain . Not spectacular but neat none the less.
Surge to Victory: Wow okay. I had to double-check to see that it didn't have the killjoy templating of "one or more"; it's like you're giving everyone a Spellbinder to share, only you're free to go to town with sorceries as well! Token spellslinging anyone? The pumping can be quite game ending in its own right if you got a source of trample. Otherwise, exiling an extra combat spell is probably a reliable thing to do
Rionya, Fire Dancer: Obviously fancy, but she seems a bit torn between spell cards and creature cards, although that could be mended by e.g. using big token spells.
Radiant Performer: Radiate is explosive and all, but would it have killed them to skip the hand casting templating? It seems to me that cheating it out in a timely matter is pretty hard anyway. Oh well, at least it cost the same and you're free to bounce it back to hand for another go
Creative Technique: Meh. Seems inefficient to me if you're just going to cast one random card, while going for two via Demonstrate seems hella risky. I'm guessing the mechanic was made for Archenemy situations in mind.
Sly Instigator: Seems kinda dependent on your playgroup including stompy things, although you might be able to make a themed deck in blue+ where you empower even your opponent's small creatures against each other
Octavia, Living Thesis: I though Quandrix was the college about counting things! Anyway, gogo mono-blue wide spellslinger!
Dazzling Sphinx: It's Chaos Wand on legs; feels kinda more red to me
Veyran, Voice of Duality: this kinda feels like the Elsha of the Infinite to Zaffai, Thunder Conductor 's Sevinne, the Chronoclasm . Bonus Round gets pretty funny here. Also, note that it doesn't double just triggers that explicitly mentions instants and sorceries, so don't forget your Birgi, God of Storytelling Flips and Saheeli, Sublime Artificer s
Moving on to the Lorehold precon, which I must say I found quite disappointing seeing as R&D at that point had caught on to the struggles of boros in EDH and where seeking to address them, and the Prismari cards only amplifies that disappointment for me. Oh well, moving on to the actual cards:
Angel of Ruins & Ruin Grinder: Oh come one Wizards, Landcycling is there to mitigate getting mana screwed, an anti-frustration mechanic. It doesn't warrant increasing the MV of the card they're on to a point where they should be bombs (and the ETB/death triggers don't really justify it either). Yes, I know the face commander can double them from the graveyard for prenium, I don't care.
Digsite Engineer: Not bad, a repeatable Karn, Scion of Urza -2 that could get out of hand in a reasonable and fair matter. Decent direction for white.
Audacious Reshapers: Repeatable Madcap Experiment s on legs. Give them lifelink to skip the downside. Probably abuseable
Bronze Guardian: Ey, Guardian Beast throwback! Meh on the whole tho.
Archaeomancer's Map: reasonable white Burgeoning , not bad; punishes landfall decks a bit. Still, while I'm probably in a bit of a minority on this, I don't think white has that big of a problem with ramp in EDH; the generic rocks work fine IMo
Monologue Tax: See above, even if this isn't bad; while its performance can vary, I don't think you can expect it to be much more than a Worn Powerstone most of the time
Battlemage's Bracers: slightly modified Illusionist's Bracers , I like this
Excavation Technique: With that drawback it could have gone all the way and included lands too. Anyway, again, anti-Archenemy tech right here, more so than the Prismari one, but giving the Archenemy six colored mana to play with seems risky in its own right
Laelia, the Blade Refored: red Phyrexian Arena on legs , kinda. The haste seems like kind of a trap since I think you're often out of mana/already played a land on the turn you get her out. I don't think there's a way to circumvent the "one or more" templating in mono-red; I couldn't find a card that cheaply exiles individual cards alá Alms .
Losheel, Clockwork Scholar: Speaking of color shifted Phyrexian Arena s on legs that can't be readily abused, here's an underwhelming attempt at giving white card advantage. Best I could find for drawing more than one card per turn rotation is Spawning Pit . Don't really expect this to be the mono white messiah we've all been holding out for
Alibou, Ancient Witness: Meh, Golem/rocks tribal I guess? And scry 8 or something seems kinda tedious.
