Maybeboard

This is a reanimator version of Yidris, that aims to exploit your opponents graveyards (as well as our won of course) by making them discard or mill (but mostly discard). We can achieve this with a number of different cards, like Windfall, Dark Deal, Dragon Mage and Jace's Archivist for example.

Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder is not terribly important for our deck to work, but he can certainly help us explode when we gather some resources and cast him. If he doesn't survive till our next turn, it's not a big deal, because the deck is full of other strong cards.

The main win con is to bring stuff out of the graveyards and smash face with the strongest creatures our opponents think they will use against us. Little do they know how this crazy ogre wields the maelstrom! We achieve this with either cards like Animate Dead, Necromancy and Reanimate, or with Geth, Lord of the Vault, The Scarab God.

Since this is obviously not a very competitive deck, I put cards like Kami of the Crescent Moon and Howling Mine, so people don't hate me too much lol. Drawing extra cards is always nice, and I want people to enjoy the game (at least as much as they can with this type of deck I guess).

I think the deck actually needs some more removal, counter spells would be even better. Archfiend of Ifnir can act as a one sided board wipe if we simply use one of our wheel effects. Dealing with graveyard hate is an issue, though putting in stuff like City of Solitude could actually hose me if I can't use counter spells or other instants, so I'm not really sure about such cards. Could use some more artifact and enchantment removal maybe, if some decide to drop a Rest in Peace?

Other than simply wheeling and reanimating, the deck wants a bit more value from so much discarding and drawing. Sangromancer can gain us life, then there's Xyris, the Writhing Storm to make us a small army of crawlers when we force opponents to draw (and he can act like a nice piece for some politics), and together with The Locust God they can create a bunch of tokens for chump blocking, going wide or simply more focused damage.

There is always options for improving, like adding the elder giants Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath and Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger, but they are out of my budget (though I might consider adding Kroxa). They can easily be 'reanimated' with Lazav, the Multifarious, avoiding their self-sacrifice effect.

And here's a pretty silly combo you could pull off with some of the cards I'm thinking about putting in the deck. It needs a decent amount of things to set it up, but it's pretty funny:

  • you need to have Stroke of Genius and Animate Dead in hand, and have Worldgorger Dragon and any other creature in your graveyard

  • do the Animate Dead + Worldgorger Dragon infinite mana combo, ending the loop by reanimating another creature

  • draw your entire deck with Stroke of Genius

  • assuming you drew Underworld Breach, cast it. If it somehow ended up in the graveyard beforehand, we should easily be able to take it back with Eternal Witness, and even if she is in the graveyard, we should have at least one reanimate card in hand now. If we don't, well that's damn unlucky and the combo won't work :P Maybe having other cards to get stuff back from graveyard would be good, but I doubt anyone would think of specifically exiling Eternal Witness, so I'm not sure

  • at this point we can cast any card from our graveyard and our hand. We should be able to fill up our graveyard enough to cast Stroke of Genius (since we need to exile 3 cards each time) with cards like Putrid Imp as many times as we need to force all our opponents to draw their decks

  • cast Ill-Gotten Gains to make everyone discard their hand. Leaving 3 cards in hand could be problematic for our next step, because if someone has mana to cast a counter spell they will hose us (although we could cast our own counter spell in response I guess). Another way to put opponents libraries (or most of it at least) into their graveyard would be with Psychic Corrosion when you are drawing your deck

  • since we can cast everything from our graveyard now, cast Mnemonic Betrayal. We can now basically cast the entire decks of all of our opponents, including most of the good stuff from our own deck (since we still have to exile 3 cards for each one we want to cast)

  • having Anger in the deck would give all our creatures haste, so that would be great to include as well

Well that's a completely stupid combo lol, and a lot of things could go wrong, but damn would it be fun to pull it off. If someone has an idea how to improve it, I would gladly hear it! Though this is not a combo deck, nor would I make it one, this would be the ultimate way of playing the deck, using our opponents stuff and causing absolute chaos.

Anyway, I hope you like the deck, and please comment if you have any recommendations :)
